2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

My dd and I are getting more excited by the day. Got notice our magic bands have shipped!!! :mickeyjum

Artistic license with the course map or no run through the castle during the half? :scratchin
I am going with artistic license like WDW (almost) Half... although we never did get to actually test that one out. Hmmmmmmm.

My dd (15) is nervous about what Corral she will be in given that there are a lot more people running here then in the races shes done at DL. Her first 1/2 was Tink last may and she had a time of 2:54. She used that as her proof of time. She just ran the light side 1/2 and got her time down to 2:30 but it was too late to submit.

Any rough estimates of what Corral she might be in? There are so many more than the DL events.

What time do you all plan to have your first sit-down meal after the half? Will it be breakfast or lunch? I know I'll refuel with a snack or two immediately following the race, but I'm not sure how long I should wait before a full meal. Thanks!

We have Be Our Guest lunch scheduled at 11:30 - I'm hoping that's plenty of leeway, but I'm not sure. I think I'll probably snack post half a little bit, but from my race in October I wasn't very hungry at all immediately after, but did want something after I'd showered and such. So it depends on how much time I have as to whether I'll get anything breakfast-y or not :)

We are also heading right back home after lunch since we have to get back to work, so that influenced our timing choices as well.

This is up to your stomach. It's more a matter of when you can get to a meal, vs how long to wait, at least for me.

Assuming the snack box is OK I'll eat something from there (though I saw a picture of some cheese product in the January event threads? ew! but people have that reaction to the hummus I miss soooooo much from TOT 2013 boxes), or I'll eat my Vega One post-workout bar and have some chocolate milk I checked in my gear bag. Head back to the resort, get cleaned up.

Usually I have brunch at Raglan Road planned. Guinness, shared pancakes, and the eggs en cocotte? Perfection. (even though I think I spelled cocotte wrong)

My personal feeling is that they give a bit of a boost to those who have done rundisney events before, so that might help.

But FWIW she could have put a quicker time than that in without POT, and plenty will have done so. I'm pretty sure I did, because I was on track for training to that time before I hurt my back, knee, and ankle. Giving a POT that's slower than what they allow to estimate without POT might not be the best strategy. But again it might be offset by her doing other rundisney events.

Either way, not worth worrying about at all, and now she has a better POT for future events. Princess corrals are what it are at this point; nothing to be done about it. Make sure she keeps to the LEFT, expect that there will be backups and tutus and 3 sets of 2 friends all walking in a line having NO idea that they are a roadblock to those behind, do NOT do anything crazy like jump onto a bench then onto and off of a garbage can (the Galloways told me someone told them he had done that at Star Wars 10K this year), say "excuse me" and "on your left" to pass, etc etc. She doesn't want to get into fistfights passing people by in a way they find rude, nor does she want to hurt herself. :)

I am debating that baseball game on Saturday -- ooooh. Sit in hotel room (AKL club level) or go see a game... :confused3

Thanks! I am the one that put in her POT and was worried if I didn't put in an actual race that she'd be in the back. So that's good info to know.

We've talked about race etiquette coupled with being an unaccompanied teen on the course. Her experience at Star Wars was completely different then Tink. At Tink a lot of the runners were very aggressive towards her while at Star Wars they were super supportive. That could very well in fact be due to her behavior as Tink was her first 1/2 - but it could also be due to the runners, lol as she's run a ton of other 10ks and 5ks. That being said we've talked a lot about what this course will be like and how to pass people nicely and respectfully (read with out teen attitude to make things worse, lol).

She's not going for a PR (although she'd love to improve) because of the number of runners and being her first time on a WDW course. Even though the DL courses vary she's familiar with area so it doesn't play that much into her time. Her goal is to finish so she can get her Blue Coast to Coast. She'll be running the Pixie Dust Challenge in May to get her pink one.

You know, when I first saw the cheese stuff in the box I thought it looked gross. But that and the super salty chips were exactly what I needed after my last 10k! Nothing else in the box appealed to me at all, but those two immediately made me feel better. Normally I would never eat anything that unnaturally orange, but it did the trick!

It really is interesting how differently people eat after the races! I definitely head straight for the banana/Oreo combination and last year ate about a pound of leftover Chinese that was honestly one of the best things I've ever tasted, and I normally can't eat after running. I think whatever sounds the best to you is what your body needs. This isn't scientific but I think it really does help my recovery.

I'm starting to really worry about being stuck in the last corral. I put my estimate on my registration as 3:01-3:05 and then planned to run a 10k in October to get an actual time to submit, but it was postponed until December because of hurricane matthew (even thought it was a beautiful day when it was supposed to have been :sad2:) and that was too late for a submission. I just finished my first half marathon distance last week at 2:34 (without stopping for character pics haha). According to my app my average 10k pace is 11:29 min/mi. It's still beyond my comprehension how some people run as fast as they do. I know it shouldn't matter, because hey, I'll be there... but still....the idea of being in the very last corral is is making me worried. :sad1:

ADR at Be our Guest at 12:45. Wish I had made it for later so I could rest more and not poop out before fireworks. We have done brunch as early at 11 in past years. Really depends on corral placement, how long it take to complete course and how you take food after you run/walk.

Has anyone printed the Event Guide? I just tried and can't get it to print...I'm wondering if I'm missing some trick? TIA!

No easy way to print it (that I know of). For W&D and Marathon Weekend, I manually copied the sections that I wanted into a Word document. I wish they would give us the option of downloading a printer friendly PDF.
