2017 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend

How far is ESPN from Epcot? We'll be at Epcot for the day and those of us running are going to head to ESPN for our packets (and perhaps some shopping :cool1:) while the dads take the kids back to OKW to go swimming or hang out. Trying to figure out the logistics of how to get from point a to point b.

Yeah...I eat turkey and mashed potatoes in the food court. I pretty much eat like an old lady. lol

This sounds perfect, I had the roast chicken with mashed potatoes, veggies, & cornbread at Caribbean food court during Dark Side Challenge. That was the best pre half meal I've had so far. It was the adult meal & it was more than I needed, I will have to check the kids options in the future.
I have trouble digesting pasta, pizza, & bread, they are definitely not options for me when I need a good nights sleep.

My friend and I are going for just 3 days and only 1 day in the park. The one reservation we really wanted was Be Our Guest on 26th for dinner and we are out of luck:worried::sad1::sad:

Don't give up! I wanted Crystal Palace 2 years ago and was unable to get it. I kept trying and ended up getting it after I arrived. I got sick, and didn't get to go, but I got an ADR!

I'm not sure, but if you don't have a car, you can take a bus, boat, or monorail to the nearest hotel and grab an expo bus from there.

Ooh...roast chicken! I bet that's good too. Aren't the cornbread and mashed potatoes amazing?

I'm the same way. I don't carb load. I just make sure I eat carbs.

You'll need a bus from a resort or a car. I'd walk to Beach Club and grab a bus.

Hey everyone!
I've been reading and reading several of the pages of this thread, but only bits at a time as I have time, and a bit out of order.

I'm new to all this...VERY. very. New. I've always said the only reason I would ever run is if someone is chasing me with a knife. Then...my hubby took up cycling and rode 50 miles in the Hotter 'N Hell Hundred, and around the same time I stumbled upon the Disney Princess Half Marathon. The inspiration I had from watching my husband combined with the magic words, "Disney" and "Princess", has me now on a determined path to run and train so I can runDisney! So I've been stalking this thread a bit, and I know the 2017 weekend is sold out, but I have a question while I start my training for the 2018 (got plenty of time!).

I keep reading people speculating that "this year's princess weekend is Belle". What does that mean? What is Belle? Is she in the medals? The shirts? Are we certain its Belle?
She's. MY. FAVE! I'm disappointed that I'll have to miss the Belle Half Marathon! I don't care for Snow White...with my luck, she'll be "it" for 2018....my first ever half.

I'm sure I'll have tons and tons of questions regarding training, stumbling blocks, gear, weekend logistics....but for now, I just need to know this very important thing: What about Princess run weekend is Belle?!!! Lol!

Welcome!

We are PRETTY sure it's Belle, but not 100%. runDisney has used her image on promotional emails and on registration materials, so if it's not her, I'd be very surprised.

The shirts and medals would then be inspired by her. I'm guessing the GSC and half medals will be exactly the same as last year's, except with different color schemes and ribbons. Guessing the 10K medal will also be the same as last year with a rose instead of a shell, and again a different ribbon. You'll likely see the theme the most in the 5K (metal!) medal. That's normally the most obvious one, maybe Lumiere and Cogsworth-themed or something like that?

Again, these are all guesses! :)

For example, in 2015, the theme was Frozen. There were snowflakes on the medal ribbons, the event guide, and the shirts. In 2016, it was Ariel. There were seashells.

Ah, I see. A different princess featured each year on the merchandise and things. UGH! Hate to miss the Belle themed weekend. :(

Oh well, running at Disney next time around will still be "magical". ;)
There's just very little reason for me to every run: someone chasing me with a knife or angry dog; if one of my kids is hurt; and...Disney! :) Thank y'all for your help!

I used to say that. You might be surprised. If you hate running, I highly recommend Jeff Galloway. I wanted to give running and honest effort, instead of just saying I hated something I'd never really tried since high school. I registered for my first 5K and started Couch to 5K. By the time I got up to 5 minutes of running nonstop, I hated it. I decided I would run the 5K and then quit. Then I discovered Galloway and I never looked back. I honestly believe I wouldn't still be running without it.

Thank you! I'll check him out. I was going to do couch to 5k and run a 5k at the zoo in April. Maybe I should just start with Galloway?
How long have you been running now?

I have been running since 2013. I quit Couch to 5K at week 4. A lot of people like it, but it just wasn't for me. I've done 2 Glass Slippers, and many 5Ks and 10Ks all using Galloway.

The ladies above answered your questions about the race - I just wanted to drop in and say congrats to your husband on completing the Hotter 'N Hell Hundred! We had friends do it this year, and my husband is training for it next year (he just finished the 80-mile Real Ale ride), and that ride is no joke!

I'm similar to keahgirl8, I started with a C25k, but wasn't loving it - so switched over to Galloway and more consistent intervals, and much prefer that! I am not quite ready for my "official" 1/2 training, so I've mainly been doing 3 runs/week -- 2 shorter during the week, and a longer one on the weekend. It's worked well so far! And I've seen big improvements in a short time -- very rewarding. The run/walk model was a new concept to me, and I love it.

He rode the 50 mile race, and hopes to do the full hundred next year. I'm crazy proud of him (he basically did a couch to bike 50)....we used to be couch potatoes together and now he's riding 4-5x per week at 20-30 miles per ride. Slimming down, lookin' hot, and more energetic!

I'm totally new to the whole thing too - but I figured we'll be there in Feb anyway, might as well suck it up and make this year my year! (and heck, I'll be turning 39 right after Disney, so it's probably a good time)

I'm on the 5 min runs of the C25K and so far I love them, but I remind myself every time that I can ALWAYS switch to Galloway if I get discouraged or am struggling and that's actually helping a lot (get back to me next week when it's 8 min runs...)

I started with C25K in 2007/2008 and it worked for me. But I'd never heard of the Galloway method, so who knows - maybe that's what I would have went with had I known. :)

I've done C25K twice and loved it! First in 2009 when I first got into running, second time in 2011 after having a baby. And then I ran my first Disney Princess Half Marathon 4 months later! :)

You're speedy! I was injured, limping, and stopped for photos. It took me over an hour.
Hardly speedy, but if you were injured, limping AND stopped for photos, I think you did just fine. We didn't stop for photos...lines were so long. I'm hoping to stop for at least a couple for at least a couple over Princess weekend.
