I just looked on the WDW site to double-check that the restaurants we'd like to visit next year are still on the 2017 dining plan ... and it looks like the regular 2017 plan includes two snack credits a day? Are my eyes deceiving me?

I mean, that's awesome, but my paranoid soul says "Why? What are they taking off?"

You get 2 snacks, but no desserts. Since we try to use our desserts to our best ability as snacks, they are kind of cheating us out of 1 snack.

You still get dessert with your table service, just not with your QS, so the regular dining plan isn't really losing out - losing 1 QS dessert but gaining a snack, however the QSDP is losing 2 desserts per day and only gaining 1 snack.

Your eyes are correct. All plans now get 2 snacks per night of stay.

As PPs said, the difference is at any QS meal you only get the entree and drink, no dessert. TS still gets entree, drink, and dessert.

Ah! Well, that's OK. Seems a bit more flexible without really losing anything. Thanks!

For basic DDP, it's actually a net positive because you're no longer tied into having to get a dessert (or trade it for a snack item) with your QS meal, but can use it at any time.

For QSDP, it's a net loss of one dessert (assuming you aren't using CS credits for breakfast, because that would be silly) with a bit more flexibility.

So if you have the TS dining plan but still get something at QS, do you get to have a dessert?

yep, ALL QS meals are now only drink and entrée, regardless of which plan you are using.

Doubtless that is in reaction to those who protested that they'd rather not have dessert at every meal. Of course one can always use a snack credit to get a QS dessert.

As noted, it's only a net loss on the QS plan which included 2 QS credits per night, so instead of 2 desserts and 1 snack per night it's 2 snacks and no desserts.

Personally, I would rather have two desserts and no snacks! :P

This change is effective 1/1/2017, right? The 2016 CS dining plan still includes desert, correct?

For reservations starting on or after 1/1/17, dessert is no longer a component of a QS meal, but you get an extra snack allotment per night. A QS meal is a QS meal, regardless of which plan you are on. A QS meal purchased with a TS credit is the same as it would be if you used a QS credit - no additions. So no dessert.

As for whether or not you "get to have a dessert" you can choose to swap your drink out for a dessert if the dessert is designated a snack, or you can spend one of your snack credits on any dessert that is designated a snack.
