Has anyone booked Dec. 16th sailing out of Galveston? What were the prices like?

This isn't exactly what you asked, but we are booked on the Dec 18 sailing out of Galveston this year (2015). It is a 6 night cruise stopping at Key West and Castaway Cay. We are in an inside room. I paid $2440 for myself and my son (even though he is 10, since it's just the two of us, I don't get a discount on his fare). I believe that was an opening day price (or close to it). I booked on May 22, 2014. Anyway, I thought the price info might be helpful for comparison.

I didn't book that one, but did book the Nov. 10, 4 night. The cruise leaves Thursday-Monday. I work in education and although I live in Houston, I've never sailed out of Galveston. The holiday cruises have always been out of my budget. This cruise was $2763 for 2A2K (12,16) for an 11B. That's definitely more than any other 4 nighter out of Galveston, but much better than holiday prices. I'm excited. We've been to Cozumel so many times, that we don't plan on getting off the boat. I know it's only a 4 nighter but I'm excited to finally get to sail from my back yard.

TXTransplant- I'm sailing on this cruise too! It's actually our wedding cruise!! Yay!

OP- Dec 18, 2015 (out of Galveston) is our second cruise on a "Merry Time" cruise and we paid $6k. Last year we did a Thanksgiving "Merry Time" cruise and we also paid $6k, but that was out of Port Canaveral.

I see lanejudy posted the board were the prices are being tracked, I was just trying to give you some historical pricing that you can use as a "go by". Hope this helps!

What airport would I need to fly in for Disney to take me to port?

To the Port of Galveston?
Either HOU (Houston Hobby) or IAH (George Bush Intercontinental). It's about an hour long drive from IAH. About 30-35 minutes from HOU. Both of these are very contingent on time of day, traffic, etc.

There is a big DCL "Galveston" thread on these boards somewhere. If I come across it (I'm at work) I will post the link.

I'm on dec 18th cruise also. Booked opening day for 2a 2c 10a it came in at just 4k. I'm dying to do the 12/16 also, but someone posted its over 8k for 2a 2c in a 5e, so I'm pretty sure I'm priced out. :(

Oh, I'm sorry. I misread her post!! You're correct. Thanks for catching that!

With that being said- there are two Houston airport to fly into (IAH and HOU) with DCL only offering transfers from IAH.
Which makes ZERO sense since the IAH transfers have to drive right by the HOU airport which is way closer. I'd bet by fall 2016 the international terminal at HOU will be complete, too. Major palm to the forehead. LOL!

I have a theory that since SW is the dominant carrier at HOU, and Disney does not sell airfare add on via SW, that they don't support transfer to/from HOU airport??? You can still get shuttle service from HOU, just not from Disney...

Cheers

If I were sailing out of Galveston and I weren't a Houstonian (or driving my own vehicle)- I'd use a town car service from HOU to the port. Not that I don't love DCL transportation, but because HOU is less chaotic, smaller and it's a lot closer.

I am hoping to book one of the 7 night cruises out of Galveston in the near future. I am hoping prices don't climb drastically in the next few months. How much are deposits for these cruises? I can't get a firm answer anywhere really.

We are going on that same cruise! First cruise for us ever!

Oh wow, that price isnt too bad. I may look into that one as well. I am so excited they are coming back to G town so I dont have to worry about airfare!

It looks like prices have increased some. Our first cruise out of Galveston was Thanksgiving 2013. I paid $2944 for myself and my son (inside room), and I didn't book until July 2013. We were originally supposed to sail over Thanksgiving 2012 but had to cancel. I don't remember what that price was...maybe $2400 or so?

My deposits on the two most recent reservations were roughly 20% of the total price of the cruise each time. I think when I first booked in 2012, it was just $200 per person (or something close to that), but deposit requirements have increased, too. I think the official deposit amount now is 20% of the cruise fare before taxes.

I changed my mind. I actually ended up using my obb (I couldn't use it on the Nov. 10th cruise). After thinking about it, I was a little concerned that Nov. 10th could be cancelled if it's the first cruise after the Wonders dry dock. I booked the Dec. 16 for 2A2K. It was $5249 with OBB. That's still expensive for me but better than I've seen for any holiday cruise.
