2016 Free Dining Watch ~ Part 2

Free Dining opened for general public today and if my calculations are correct - you would have to wait till the double bookers start cancelling to get anything - I called at 700 am didn't talk to anyone live till 730 and couldn't get POP for November or December - had to be flexible and take August FD dates -

How are you accessing the Disney Visa offer? I feel a little stupid...I have a Disney Visa but haven't received an offer.

For what it's worth i JUST NOW got the Disney Visa email, lol. The link is posted some pages back though, but all I did is call and mentioned that I had one.

CONGRATS to all my disboard friends that have been able to get FD today!
I was hoping for CBR, POR or 2 rooms at POP and for our dates, 9/27 - 10/3, the only things available were a suite at ASMu or one of the Cabins.
I thought I would come here to ask your thoughts on those 2 options? Any preference one over the other?

I've stayed at ASMusic and really enjoyed it, but I have a soft spot for all the Allstars... those have been "home" since 2003 ;)

I have a Disney Visa and haven't gotten any info for FD. When I go to the Disney Visa website it doesn't list FD under current special offers. What am I doing wrong?

No email from DV either (I never get the FD ones until 2-3 days later and I've had the card for 10+years). I'm able to see the Disney Visa Cardholders Free Delicious Dining offer under the Special Offers on the regular WDW website (haven't checked Chase).

We got the email. Just for fun I asked my TA if it was a better deal than we had received. (It wasn't. As I thought). He said he started at 4AM and it was sold out by 4:15AM

Limited availability

Trying to get DD4 to nap so I can too! Hope everyone else is hanging in there...

And thank you for sharing all your info! I have followed along for some time now. Haven't posted much but this was a great thread to follow with a lot of helpful people.
Free dining threads are my favorite. There is always a wealth of information and they are just plain fun. A few years ago one got up to 4 parts I think. It's always sad when the free dining hype ends because then you have to wait till next year for the fun to start again. Fingers crossed for FD in 2017.

Question : I changed resorts online and got a confirmation email but the site still shows the old information. Should I worry or does it sometimes take a bit to update?

I'm booked CSR standard but want preferred or business class for end of November into December. Has anyone see that pop up throughout the day?

No, if you have that email your fine. Mine took a few hours this morning to update. My mobile app still show the old info.

I would say as long as you have the email you are good. Mine is on MDE but no email... I keep refreshing throughout the day to make sure it's still there! :rotfl:

This is my first time posting on dis, but I've been reading for quite some time! In fact, I've religiously stalked the free dining threads for the past few years! We did free dining at FW cabin in 2014 and did SPD at pop/aoa lion king suite this past January. Our first time ever visiting Disney was in 2013 the week of thanksgiving and stayed off-site. Although I realize we were just getting our feet wet, so to speak, I regret staying off-site and may never do so again!
My husband has loved Disney along with I and our 3 daughters, but he definitely is not "obsessed" like us! Must be a princess thing ! I booked Caribbean beach at about 4:00am for the week prior to Christmas. I am more than excited! I wanted to share in everybody's happiness and say congrats to everybody that was able to book today!!
I've basically breathed Disney since our first trip and it is refreshing to know (by reading these boards lol) that there are MANY others like me!
Thank you all for all the info that I've received from this site!
I feel in love with Disney on our first trip in 2009. I have been obsessed ever since too.

I'm trying to help my in-laws with their reservation. FIL is in a wheelchair and can't walk/drive. They are wanting to go to Universal one day but are wondering if there is a bus that will take them there from CBR.

Also, he is retired military and will be calling at some point today to find out the price for the discount. Do they get their choice of resort or do they have to stay at Shades of Green? If the free dining is a better discount for them, they will just stay at CBR.

Hello! I'm still on page 173 so I don't know if anybody has answered this for you yet. The Disney military room discount is offered at most but not all resorts, with limited availability. So sometimes you will have your pick of resorts and sometimes not, it depends on your flexibility in dates. Example: I called about a week ago and the only value resort military discount available in Sep but after Sep 7th was ASSports. I called back on Sunday and availability had opened up at Pop, so I rebooked. BTW, there always specials going on at SOG that you should look into. The Sep one is ~$115/night for that huge nice room, if I recall correctly.

As for a way to get to Universal - you can rent a shuttle or get Uber, but those can be kind of pricey. SOG has a roundtrip shuttle for $10/adult, so if you can get to SOG you can take that. There is information under "Transportation" on the SOG website. Uber might be cheaper depending on how many people would be going, so you might want to price it out.

So the CM I just talked to checked for availability to add either RO or FD to our existing reservation at the Contemporary Garden Wing. After multiple hours on hold calling for the third time today, I still couldn't get anything.

How can I not get either discount added to my stay? I booked early enough to ensure that I would get the resort I wanted. Now I'm being shut out from a promo because I didn't book it today?

My frustration with this whole process is at its limit. Here's a deal they are advertising but not everyone is eligible for it.

3 hours and 47 minutes later ... I was able to get my dates but wanted to share something. I couldn't modify mine online Bc I have two rooms under one reservation. I tried ALL morning, couldn't get through. finally at 12:15pm I got through and was on hold an hour and a half. I got a CM who seemed to be very new. She tried just adding the promotion to my already booked rooms. She couldn't. She actually told me I was trying to go during a black out period (11/17-11/21), I said umm no, but even if I was, as long as I check in during a non black out day, I get FD my whole trip. I said I think you're having trouble Bc there's no availability at my resort (CSR) those dates with the offer. Long story short, as she was looking I was too, on my phone and realized if I just check in one day later and shorten my trip one day CSR was available. I asked her to make the change and said I would call another time to just add a room only for the night I didn't get. She couldn't for some reason, ended up taking me off the ressie and other guests double booked. I was on hold so long, she got her supervisor and ended up getting me that one night that wasn't available for the promotion after all. She had her supervisor do it for all my trouble. So, there IS a way they can spread pixie dust with the availability!
I guess it was worth the 4 hours :)
