2015 Magical, Magnificent, Mighty May WISH challenge! All are welcome!

Had a very busy weekend with lots of parties/ meals out. Managed to maintain my weight and happy with that. Starting afresh today. Have a healthy, happy week everyone:)

Hi Ladies - we had some disappointing news on Friday - apparently I am not getting the loan for the new place .. so for 3 weeks we thought we were.. told the people who were selling it to us 3 weeks ago and told the people who would be buying our place 3 weeks ago and then the bank said just kidding you really can't get the loans.. thankfully the family buying from us had not yet given their notice to the place they live but OMG the couple we were buying from close on 6/11 and now are $20,000 shorter then they thought they would be.. I feel so badly about that - and the lady works with the Hubs. so after I told the hundreds of people that we were not moving now and why (including my kids and family) I cried my eyes out then ate everything in sight all weekend.. I guess it wasn't meant to be but man it hurt.. however on the positive side, we have home (it's little and old but its ours we own nothing and it keeps us warm and dry), we have jobs, cars, health, food, family and friends.. so it's ok.. if you are my facebook friend you'll see lots of home improvement pics coming - it's great to have a dad that is a builder! New Shower, New carpets, and maybe if I can get my dad to do it a re-do of the master bedroom.. Sending hugs and pixie dust to those who need it.. Michelle

Hope the new week is off to a good start!! Falling off the wagon is not so bad, as long as you manage to get on it again quickly! Seems like you are just doing that!

Oh, I am so sorry about that! I can understand how depressing this can be. But it sounds that you managed to channel your frustration into a lot of positive energy for your old place! That is great!

Thank you!! I saw your post just as I was getting ready!

I am not happy with my time - I had a 31:05 time. I could have been faster, but the race was just soooo full with people. Not enough space. I was hoping to finally have a time under 30 minutes in a 5k, but because I did not train that much, I did not really expect it. But now that I realize how close I got to the 30 minutes and that when I knew that I was not moving as fast as I could because of a crowded course, I am a bit disappointed. But it has motivated me to keep up running. And my sister really enjoyed her first race ever, so we had a fun afternoon! We celebrated with getting a nice slice of cake from a special bakery. All in all we both had over 20.000 steps yesterday with doing some errands, the race, walking to and from the race course and then to the bakery...

Today was a lousy eating day with sitting on a train that was late and overcrowded (seems to be the theme for this weekend). But tomorrow it is back to be on plan and I am also planning on being done with eating for the day now. And I went for a nice walk earlier.

The good news is that my foot did not complain the slightest yesterday or today. So I am thinking I am over whatever it was that bothered me. Today I am a bit sore, but tomorrow it is back to restart my exercise program!

That sounds like a great time to me, especially if conditions weren't the best! You'll get sub-30 next time. :)

Congrats on maintaining! Always a great feeling!

Sorry to hear all of that. :( The home improvement sounds like fun, though!

Not much going on, here the past few days. Have a mild case of mess-around-itis when it comes to diet/working out right now. Trying to buckle down and get rid of the belly pooch before summer really starts.

Meal prep Sunday became a two day project here, since today is a stat holiday I thought I would spread things out. Hope you guys don't mind pics, I get bored when I'm cooking.

Burrito preparation station! Sriracha rice, garlic mushrooms and beans. Not pictured is the generous amount of cheese that went on top of all this. Got ten burritos out of the recipe, six for mine and bf's meals, three for the freezer and one to send over to the parents.

Slow cooker mushroom and asparagus soup. Didn't turn out quite as well as expected, but makes four more freezer meals.

Also chopped up a ton of veggies, made applesauce and apple pie proats. Very tiring and many dirty dishes were made, but no more cooking this week. :)

Now, time to find the willpower to get off the couch and go to the gym...

Good morning everyone.

My name is Dona and it has been too long since I have been on here. I need some place to be accountable so here I am.

I don't have a lot of time this morning so I will do my introductions later.

My eating has been pretty good for the last month but what I am really wanting to work on is getting in exercise consistently. This is the second morning in a row that i have gotten in 15 minutes of yoga. I have missed this since the middle of APril when my yoga instructor retired. We have a spare room upstairs so I have my mat, some yoga magazines, dvds and portable dvd player to get me started. I want to start a streak so I will report back every day to tell you if the streak is still on or not.

This is a very stressful time and I guess I need some support. My dad dies a year ago on his 89th birthday and the same day I found out I was teacher of the year for my school. This past Feb my father in law died a month before his 91st birthday. Now throw in that in 2 weeks I turn 60 and 4 weeks later I retire from teaching job. I have been in the same building for 38 years.

Off to proctor the PARCC test to a bunch of crazy freshman. I am so glad that they are not in my class.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Hey all! I promise I haven't fallen off the planet! I am finally home and hopefully back on schedule! I have spent the last week driving back and forth and back and forth and moving my DD from her dorm to her apartment and getting her car to her and just lots and lots of driving and moving! I am exhausted! I was supposed to come home last night, but by 8:15 I made the decision that I was too tired to make the 2 hour drive and I spent the night at my MIL's (with DD). Saw DD off on her first drive to the Commuter Rail this morning and then hit the rush hour traffic myself to get home. I've got to work tonight and then I am subbing W-F this week.... I definitely NEED this long weekend coming up~! (Memorial Day for you non-US folks.)

I will post today's belated QOTD next!................P

Well.... ironically enough, today is NATIONAL MAY RAY DAY! It is a day dedicated to being outside, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying the warm air! (The irony is that it is the first rainy day we have had in weeks!).

We all know that SUNSHINE is important to our health and helps us get our Vitamin D (and in turn, that is good for our brain health and bones). Did you also know that getting enough sunshine can help you reduce stress, improve your circadian rhythm so that you sleep better, and boost serotonin levels to help with mood and depression?? Studies have also shown that it can help with WEIGHT LOSS by regulating hunger hormones.

What are some HEALTHY ways you get OUTSIDE to enjoy the sun ? A good walk? Picnic in the yard? Coffee on the patio? Raking??

I PROMISE that I will be back on track with the QOTD for the remainder of the month!

I second that motion! Definitely need a few days off

What are some HEALTHY ways you get OUTSIDE to enjoy the sun ? A good walk? Picnic in the yard? Coffee on the patio? Raking??

Needing some help with ideas for this! Although the sun was out today it is still freezing up here. Alls I can think of right now is bundling up for a walk

QOTD for Wednesday, May 20, 2015:

And.... drumroll please...... today is.............

NATIONAL PICK STRAWBERRIES DAY! How fun!

So it is a great day to talk about FRUIT! What are your favorites? How do you prepare it? Do you grow any of your own? Have you tried any new ones lately? How many servings a day do you average?

Dashing off to work.... BBL to chat!............P

Good afternoon everyone.

I love blueberries. I will eat them plain, on yogurt, in a smoothie. A few years ago a friend and I would take our kids out to a blueberry farm to pick them. I would usually bring home about 25 pounds and put them in the freezer. I used them in a lot of smoothies. Since I was the only one using them it would last me until March.

I am on day 3 of getting up and working out. It is not for long but it is still more than I was doing.

My favorite was to get out and enjoy the sun is to sit in the shade of the trees on our property and either read or knit. If it is a really hot day the shade could cool the area off by 10 degrees.

Tonight I am going to the local high school theater awards. If you have ever seen the Tonys on tv it is just like that. The nominated musicals perform and awards are given out for dramas and musicals. The high school I teach out is up for a number of awards and the high school I costume at is also up for a number of awards.

Have a happy and healthy evening.

oh heavens to Betsy...I don't know why I thought I'd have time to read and check-in on this months challenge with graduation! I have been busy to the 100th power...thinking of you all lots and trying to make good choices and keeping up on my WO. I will return in june!! Happy MAY and pixie dust for big losses for you all!!!

I can only imagine how crazy things are right now! Glad you are sticking with good choices and workouts! Look forward to chatting with you more in June and CONGRATS to the graduate!!

Thank you!! I saw your post just as I was getting ready!

So sorry that the run time wasn't what you had hoped for.... but perhaps next time the race course won't be so crowded and you will definitely make a PB! Good news that the foot is improved!

Hey DisBoarders -

Here's a belated declaration of my goal for this month...

So far this past week I dug out my old old WW materials from about 2009... I have gone back on the really old plan and have been sticking to it about 5 days now. The new plan has never worked for me... So I'm back on the Momentum plan if anyone remembers that, basically it pays to choose high fiber low fat foods because they have the lowest point values. A lot of one point snacks to eat all day while sitting in my cubicle (Zzzzzz).

I need to figure out if there are any super low point value cassaroles out there. I'll check over on the W.I.S.H. recipe board for ideas. I used to make this zataran's chicken alfredo from a box that was about 3 or 4 points in one cup. Until they discontinued it. Any similar ideas or suprise store bought cassarole ideas if you have any?

Hope all are well, and wishes for a good week!

I admit, I think I did better on the old Points system (versus the newer PointsPlus). It took me a loong time to decide to make the switch-over too.

Check out the recipes I have over on the WISH recipe board. Here is a link to get you going in the right direction. The thread could use an update and definitely is getting a bit "dusty" from lack of company, but I still check it out frequently!

I am SO VERY SORRY that you got such a big disappointment. Sounds like you put on your big-girl panties though, and are making the best of the situation. Good luck with the home improvements!

Berries are definitely up there on my list of favorites.... and they are some of the BEST fruits for you.... lots of fiber from the seeds, low carb, anti-oxidants... WINNER!!

WTG on the workouts!

Good luck to your school tonight at the awards presentation!

************************************

Hey all! I'm home from work and definitely still recovering from 6 days of craziness, busy-ness, driving and all. Hope I can stay awake for tonight's Survivor finale!

For good news..... I made up the filling for cheeseburger wraps on Sunday, but ended up leaving before making the actual wraps, so that is all ready to go for dinner tonight! Yum! Throw in a side of roasted green beans. But that is pretty much it for fresh veggies here.... just a few onions and two sweet potatoes and some avocado. No carrots, no celery, no broccoli.... that pretty much constitutes a crisis for us! That being said.... my celery is growing nicely! It isn't big, but there is enough to throw in a salad! And fingers crossed that we are harvesting homegrown greens within a few more weeks!

Anyhow... things to do (laundry), people to see (check on DS's homework status) and places to go (well.. not really other than up to my bedroom to fold laundry :rotfl: ). I'll be back in the morning with tomorrow's QOTD!................P

Good Thursday morning everyone.

I never woke up with the alarm this morning so I did not get in my workout. The problem was that I did not get to bed until after 11 and didn't get to sleep until almost midnight.

The school I work on costumes for won a lot of awards last night. They won best set, lighting, musical direction, ensemble group for the orphans, best lead actor, best director and best musical. It was a lot of fun but my throat is sore and I am tired from being up so late.

I am glad dh is home and cleaning the house. We are have his brother and wife staying at our house Friday night and then we have to drive them to the airport very very early on Sat morning. (like 4:30 am)

Congrats ohmom on the graduate. My older son got his Masters last week but did not go to the ceremony. He did it all on line from Univ of Nebraska and we live in NJ.

Off to start the day. Have a happy and healthy day.

Good morning and welcome to your QOTD for Thursday, May 21, 2015:

Today is NATIONAL WAITSTAFF DAY! A great day to talk about the health and weight loss challenges associated with EATING OUT!

How do you handle restaurant meals? Do you use it as an excuse to eat whatever you want? Do you order everything "on the side" (dressing, cheese, sauces)? Do you stick with just a plain salad and lean protein (grilled chicken for example)? How OFTEN do you eat away from home?

Off to work! TTYL............P

Sorry I've been missing on here but hopefully be a bit more of a contributor for the rest of the month. My favorite fruit is strawberry but unfortunately my fave way to eat them is on a pavlova with buckets of cream!! Since that is the old me my new favorite way is as part of a salad or simply on their own :). Grew my own last year but the birds beat me to it this year so having to buy them from shop :(
I do try to get outside for a 15/20 minute walk each day for many reasons - vitamin d, fitness, my sanity when it's been a crazy day or sometimes simply as a treat for myself that costs nothing but leaves me feeling good :)
Struggling to get back on track food wise but the best I can say is I'm not giving up the struggle!! Good luck everyone :)

I... am not an outdoorsy person. I walk a lot... I take an earlier train into work so I can walk from the station (about 25 minutes) in the morning, but it's early enough in the morning that for half the year it's still dark out. I also try to walk to the grocery store/mall/friend's house/whatever if it's close enough. Sitting outside? Nahhhh.

YUM and DOUBLE YUM! You set yourself up well! And there is NEVER enough watermelon!! Are the meatballs homemade or premade??

Homemade meatballs made with vegetarian ground beef (yuck). They turned out pretty tasty! Haha, there was SO much watermelon, I'm practically forcing it down bf's throat.

What goes in the filling for cheeseburger wraps? They sound really good!

Hey all!! Welcome to your QOTD for Friday, May 22, 2015 (and the holiday weekend ahead):

I'm going to divert from talking about those weird and quirky national holidays for today.

We are now going into the LAST WEEK of our MAGICAL May challenge! Chatter has been pretty quiet this month and I worry that it will quiet down even more as we get into summer vacation months. So I am asking you all.... how would you like to proceed going into June/July/August? Go back to weigh-in challenges with percentages posted by the hostess? Go WAAAAY back to our team challenges? Continue with a casual chatter thread with or without a QOTD? Or do you have another idea entirely??

Please give this some thought. These challenges have been VERY important to me for the past nearly 7 years and I would be very sad to see them go away completely. I have made some TRUE friends and the support factor is ENORMOUS! I am willing to continue in whatever capacity is needed (coaching, hosting, etc).

Have a FANTASTIC FRIDAY and a relaxing holiday weekend to those in the U.S. !.................P

I love the way this month's challenge has been run Pamela :). I've made some improvements health wise but haven't come close to my weight loss target but because of the chatty nature of the thread I have still felt part of it all and less of a failure than I would have done had it been solely focused on weight loss :) I have enjoyed the QOTD and they have made me think which is good. They also made me start taking a vitamin daily so probably a good thing :)

Regardless of the format going forward I'd just like to say thanks for this month and I'm hoping to join in again next month :)

Pam, thank you so much for hosting May!! I am not sure about how to proceed during the summer. I like the way it is now, but it seems like the thread is fading more and more. Maybe doing a huge big competition and get some more publicity would help. But then it seems as if that part of the DIS is really shrinking as it is being replaced by Facebook.

Very proud of myself: Stayed more or less OP yesterday. I try to eat some of my weekly points every day, so it was ok that I was 4 points over. BUT I could have made better and more conscious choices. But once again got too hungry before dinner and then my brain just switches off. I think it must be some basic survival instinct that kicks in - despite the fact that there is no danger that I die of hunger under current circumstances.

Today was off to a really good start: Got up early, had a lovely breakfast, wrote a meal plan and went shopping for it. Gots lot of lovely produce (some of it rather pricey, peaches and apricots are just starting to get into season, so they are still very pricey. But I really needed new stuff. Found a new farm stand, kind of hidden in an alleyway in my neighborhood that was selling really nice things. I like to buy as local as I can and the area around here is known for vegetable farming. Even the big supermarket chain where I regularly shop has started to have much more local things. And the tomatoes that were grown five miles from here are not more expensive than the ones from Spain or Holland either.

Had my lunch according to the plan and some coffee afterwards and now can do something productive with the afternoon! I think I will get out a DVD and jump around to Jillian Michaels' commands for a little while!

...kicking myself for yesterday because went over on points by like 11, and feel like I stretched out my stomach a bit, darn. Was trying to save them for today! My niece turned 5 this week, so going out with family today, out of all places old country buffet. I want to lose the weight somehow...

I wish healthy food tasted as good as the kinds that aren't very good for ya.

Anyway, happy weekend to you all and be well --
