2015 destash - Purge Purge Purge, Purge is the word

I'm joining again. I'm hoping to work on the pile in the garage. I'm off for two weeks so wish me luck! lol!

2014 is a year of many ending and closures in my life so 2015 will be the year to clean up and clear out the remaining clutter

WOW I did my look at the budget board for a couple of days and we are at 5 pages! The last time I look OP had just started the thread and no one else had posted.

I was not on last night because I went through my food storage containers and threw away miss matched lids and bottoms and a pitcher that I loved but it leaked. I also pulled out a few items to sell or donate. I need to figure out how to organize the containers and lids better. I should have thrown more out, but I figure if I have a few extra it will not matter if I give some out and they do not come back.

I hope to do more later. Right now we are taking DS to a mirror maze and 5 Wits. I bought the certificates on roupon and the mirror maze one is about to expire.

I am in again. :)

My main areas of focus are:

1. Clothes. I worked on that today. My kids have gone up a size too. Clearing the way for the next size. I overbought for them (shopping sales) and it's been a big process weeding them out. Some sizes (even though they have technically outgrown them) still fit. So it's been some guess work and purge, purge, purge. I have some bins ready to donate and sell.

2. Paper in general. School papers (love the bin idea), mail, receipts, important documents. I need to reorganize.

3. Toys.

I started a couple of months ago, just getting rid of a few household items here and there and some clothes from my closet. Got rid of things I wasn't using. I sold them through consignment. So far I've made $175. That's been nice. I'm going to keep a running total as I go.
------------------

I have been watching the show, Horders. :faint: Oh my gosh. It's so sad. Our problem areas aren't close to being that bad, but it sure is motivating.

Oh I love that show, it make me sick and motivates me at the same time.

This is so great that there's so much motivation on here.

Congrats to those who have started to get rid of stuff!

I'll check in and I got the master bath done and I'm working on my bed side table. I got rid of three grocery bags of beauty stuff and old magazines.

Getting rid of stuff makes me feel so light and happy.

I cleaned out my purse today and got rid of all of the Christmas receipts. Kept the two for the returns, but the rest got shredded. Movie day today with my DD and then we will do our returns. Hitting Walmart so I will look for new organization ideas there.

Those are great options!! I would add a women's shelter for the same reason. I had a shopper buy several beanie babies at a yard sale one time. She used them for prizes at a retirement home. There should be places that will take them. I wish I could get DD14 to give up some. We have a few pop up hampers full of them!
Thank you all for the ideas on where to donate the stuffed animals. I'll look into them when I get back home. I also like the idea of pop up hampers to store the ones we're keeping. We keep waiting to get my wife's old toy chest from her mother, who has been saying for a few years now that she'll bring it to us, but I have a feeling that's never going to actually happen so I need to move on and find another solution. Right now most of them are just in a big pile on the floor under DD's loft bed and it's driving me nuts because I want to turn that into a play space for her or at least use it for organized toy storage.

I took four large boxes to Goodwill today myself. I in for 2015. My goal take stuff every week to Goodwill donate.

Yesterday I had DH go through his hoodies that are in the (thing I cannot spell haha - sounds like ARM-MWAR) and he pulled out a ton of get rid of. Now my hoodies will fit on the second shelf in there. I can actually fit all my scrubs in my closet now! I don't know how I ended up keeping my work scrubs in the basement in the first place.

My house looks like it exploded, lots of stuff to put away today. So ready to get all the Christmas stuff put away.

Same here. Trying to wait until New Years but kind of tempted to do it tonight. I just want things back to normal! Everything is a cluttered mess right now.

Well I have sorted out quite a bit today. Have at least a bag of garbage. Hope to get more done but almost to my weekly garbage limit.

We need to make room for the new freezer in the basement so that gave us reason to clean out the last cluttered area in the basement. So this year we can cleaned out the basement, the shed, the garage, and the DH workshop. Feels so good to be clutter free!

It was nice yesterday so we took every thing to Salvation army.

Only thing left is empty boxes to go to recycle center. :cool1:

I always join then lurk but this year I am committed to destash, purge, etc. we have way too much stuff, it makes me crazy, not sure how I am going to approach it all yet, I bought myself a project book at staples and so far I want to:
build a window seat
turn hall closet into mudroom
make a drop zone in the front hallway
create a book nook
toy storage
pallet garden grow boxes
art storage

I joined a fb local page and have sold several things for $200, One was a 12 month old xmas dress that my now 9 year old had worn sold for $10!!!!

I've been tackling papers and receipts all day. I hate doing this every year, one would think I would keep up with it better but that only lasts a few months. Hopefully this year will be better.

DH is tackling DVDs. We bought rip it so we are burning all of our DVDs to the computer attached to the TV. And he's getting everyone's phones, laptops and iPods all linked up. This has taken longer than we thought but we are almost done.

I love reading everyone's plans and challenges! But isn't it funny how we all have so many different areas of our lives to declutter? For some of us it's paperwork, for others it's our kids' rooms, for some it's a spare room, for some it's our digital lives (photos, music, movies), etc. Our challenges are as diverse as we are, yet we all hope to get the chaos under control. Good luck to everyone! I'll think of you all as I tackle one of the 4,328 projects on my perpetual to-do list. Haha
First up, those clothes in my closet I'm never gonna lose those last 10 pounds for...

I've taken 2 carloads of stuff to Goodwill in the past 2 days. A lot of it was XMas decor that we never took out this year. I decided that it was unlikely that We'd ever take it out. We're not the type to put holiday decor everywhere. One tree and a few other accents are enough for us...I kept a few outdoor decor items also, but that's it.

Now I need to work on decluttering the toys as we are making a playroom finally. I think I'm going to donate all of them as even the $$ things don't seem to be worth much on Ebay. I may try a FB selling group but I don't have a huge amount of patience for looking at this stuff...I just want to be rid of it.

Well I have sorted out quite a bit today. Have at least a bag of garbage. Hope to get more done but almost to my weekly garbage limit.

I am going to start on Tuesday but we are at our weekly garbage limit because of Christmas and New Years. We have garbage collection on Monday and Thursday but no Thursday for last week and this week. I will sort things that can be held until we have room.

Got all the Christmas stuff put away yesterday. Also printed the label to return an unwanted gift to Amazon & just posted something for sale on Craigslist.

It's a beginning.

Our trash day is Tuesday so tomorrow I will get as much recycling together as possible after work. As of now I am working a half day Tuesday so I can start filling the garbage cans up again.

I wish we lived where you could have yard sales in February. I always start off well and then I get busy with other things. This is quiet time at work so I can get more done.
