2015 destash - Purge Purge Purge, Purge is the word

. Can you copy VHS tapes. I am afraid they are all going to get brittle. . Drink water and eliminate bread, sugar too. I never ever thought I could loose weight but it is possible.

I don't know, I don't have many VHS tapes left.
I do know of a guy local to me that will copy it for me though, he owns a photo lab.

Today I tackled my craft room. This room will take me all year to do. I have an entire room full of scrapbook stuff, I want to get it back down to one cabinet. And maybe turn the craft room back into the dining room.
I also started moving pictures over to convert a pocket album into a digital one. The pocket album is 4 inches thick when closed. I can get the same photos in a book about 1/2 an inch thick.
DH is still ripping movies. That's also going to take months.
And last but not least I hooked up my new scanner today to test out. I can scan slides, photos and negatives and the test ones I did turned out great. Another year long project. Lol

After the bathrooms and bookshelves dd wanted to do a sewing project so I ended up dragging out a bunch of sewing stuff. I did get all her Girl Scout patches sewn on and organized some of my extra fabric. But I left everything out hoping I will have a chance to get some supplies and do a project I've been waiting on tomorrow. The fabric store is next door to Office Depot so I'm planning to go get a couple bins to organize legos and seasonal decorations.

I'm going to attempt to tackle our hall closet today; we'll see how that goes. One shelf if filled with all sorts of toiletries, medications, hair products, etc., and another shelf is packed full of miscellaneous junk. It's a nightmare back there :sad2::sad2::sad2:

I bought a DVD copier and spent most of 2013 copying my parents old VHS tapes/home movies. I complied some for our extended family too since my dad was the one with the video camera and gave them as Christmas gifts last year. It's not very expensive or hard to do, it's just very time consuming since it has to be done in real time. The DVD copier I bought was around $90, and blank DVDs are not very expensive if you buy them in 50 or 100 packs.

Went through the large basement closet before I put the Christmas stuff away but didn't find much I didn't need from DS's baby stuff. Packed up all the Christmas stuff and put it away. Only thing left to do is take the tree down and put it in the box and bring the recliner up from the basement. Did some more organizing and moving things around in the basement. I did another page in my scrapbook project that I started in the fall. I think I'm going to use the walmart gift card we got for Christmas to get some space bags. So many little projects to work on. Not feeling very motivated today, I'm tired. Might go to Kohls and return a few things (Christmas gifts) after dinner and use the merch. credit to get a new crock pot. I dropped mine out of the cabinet yesterday and the crock shattered.

That sounds like our hall closet, except ours is half linen closet and half pantry so there's probably a really interesting mix of forgotten stuff on the upper shelves. Plus every time my MIL comes to visit she brings us all kinds of things that we'll never use - toiletries, cake mixes, snack foods, etc. We've tried to nicely tell her to stop bringing things but she still does. She just left today so I'm sure I'll have a bag for the food pantry once I go through everything she brought.

Has anyone ever successfully gotten their parents to stop bringing them things they don't need or want? Because if so I could use some tips, lol.

Last night while I set up You Need A Budget, DW sorted through all the bins of clothes we're saving for younger DD and re-binned them by size. (They had gotten all mixed up and we couldn't find anything.) Now we just need to label the bins and put them back in the closet, although there's one really big one that likely won't fit so we need to find a home for it. Apartment living = no basement or attic for storage.

I'm going to switch this question around and ask if anyone has been successful in getting their adult kids to get their stuff out of their parents basement?:rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl::goodvibes:goodvibes

Seriously though, I am in the process of purging. If I don't keep it up now that I have started I am going to be labeled a hoarder.

I've started to let the clothing go. The extra appliances were kind of difficult because I have a huge kitchen and lots of storage, but who needed 3 Belgian waffle makers? I kid you not. Plus coffee pots and other fad type appliances.

My house would make a great garage sale and I've kept things that would be great for a sale, but guess what? I don't have that kind of time.

Anyway, I keep reading this thread and you are all inspiring me, so thanks!

Went through DS room yesterday and found a ton of stuff he no longer plays with that we're going to try and yard sale. So today I'll be listing items online and doing another paper pile. Progress, I say!

I took a small hiatus from purging to get my long run in for the week.
Today, I am back at it. I'm going to sort and purge at least one tote and deep clean the next section of the kitchen.

This weekend DH and I are going to go pick new paint for the kitchen. I like the latte color it is now but it's got a little to much yellow in it. My goal for Jan - March is to get the kitchen one color. I have latte on one wall, and 2 shades of yellow on the other 3 walls. It's time to pick one!

We finished with the kids clothing bins this morning and also sorted through the shoes. Having two of the same gender born in the same season is great for saving money on clothing/shoes for the 2nd one, but it's a hindrance to decluttering! We managed to fit all of it in the kids closet though, freeing up a whole corner of their room where the bins used to be stacked. I think that's going to become the stuffed animal corner once I get some pop up hampers to put them in. There's also now another corner near the door to their room that is cleared, to which I'm going to move a bookshelf from the living room that's just full of the kids junk anyway. One of my many goals for 2015 is to get as much of their stuff as possible out of my living room and into their bedroom!

I didn't do much yesterday because I spent most of the time picking up holiday toys and clutter, basic kitchen dishes upkeep and playing with some photos. I'm hoping today will be a little more productive. I put out three boxes for the donation pick up and plan to prepare a bunch of meals to freeze and have ready to go for when school and work start back up on Monday. Besides that I'm hoping to get a good look at YNAB and maybe do my bookshelf and nightstand. Or make progress on a sewing project. Hmmmmm....

I have gotten 2 bags to donate to goodwill. I have gotten through 6 drawers in my one dresser. I bought new hangers for my closet. I took out the old ones to give to a local theater group who likes wire hangers. I also have some belts and a bag to give to another theater group I work with. This is a good suggestion for men's suits and ties.

I'm IN!

We live in a 2 BR apartment. I have lived here for 2 years and moved here when I graduated college so we have pretty much accumulated/inherited a ton of stuff over the last 2 years.

Tomorrow my first order of business is probably the kitchen.. I love to cook but we have way too many pots/pans/tupperware that we don't use. Also, I have a ton of clothes/items I couponed for that need to be donated, so that's my goal within the next week.. to find these items a new home!

I am in! I am in the process of purging a husband who never put things away and was a pat rat if not a borderline hoarder. Trying to teach the kids better now that his influence is gone! Started right before Christmas by having them box up everything in their rooms (bought new beds for the boys and the girl got their old castle bed). As they need an item, they can unpack that 1 item. Items not needed within 6 months are going away. It is so nice to be able to walk in their rooms! My January goal is my room :)

The other night, I went through several drawers & cabinets in my kitchen. It freed up space so I can store some small appliances more conveniently and have more food storage for our Costco buys.

Today I cleared out the linen closet again. There are several towels and bedding sets we don't need. Some will be donated and the really beat up ones will go to the animal shelter.

Saturday we are taking a queen bed headboard/footboard to Goodwill along with 2 older Christmas trees. We are also taking at least 2 bags of clothes, a working toaster, and several sets of bedding to a non-profit that works for homeless prevention. They give away things for free and have a collection site near us once a month. My goal this year is to send our useful things to them.

I have not yet taken any broken appliances or electronics to be recycled but I pass Best Buy on my home from work. It looks like they will take 3 things a day. I hope to put them in the van and take them over the next week or so.

How is everyone else enjoying the new year so far?

I am in again this year. I have taken down the tree today. Purged 45 ornaments. Sad that I just packed away a ton. Will go through the rest of the decor and games as I have a vet pick up on the 8th. Plan for the year 100 items minimum per month.

I wen thru DH's closet yesterday. Got rid of 8 pairs of old jeans that are too big and a couple dozen shirts that he's not worn in over 2 years. Could get rid of 3 times that and he would still have plenty of clothes. Can't do much with the 6 pairs of boots he's got sitting around, he keeps a good eye on those. Yes, the man is a pack rat.

Today, I took down the Christmas tree, threw out old ornament boxes that we no longer use/need and got rid of a few ornaments. I did the big purge on ornaments a couple years ago. I still need to go through the plastic tote of gift bags, boxes, bows and other assorted wrapping supplies. I'm sure there is something I can donate from that pile as well.

It's back to work tomorrow, but I will be back at it on Saturday!

Keep up the good work everyone!
