2014 Marching Band thread

I can't believe I never updated this thread last October that we won 5A State Champions! Where was I? LOL That was so exciting!!

We had a wonderful talent show this past weekend, and a silent auction fundraiser. The kids are going to San Antonio in April for a fun trip, so we are raising some money for that, and the rest for our general fund. We have a spaghetti dinner coming up soon as well.

I completely understand the soapbox outrage, as you can tell. We do have a fee, usually around $250 each for marching band and then indoor. We have also had the kids go out and try to get sponsors for themselves, but will be looking to the community for sponsorship. I don't think there's much we can do for this season, since it's over in April, but if we can get a good head start for next marching band season, that would be amazing. And I really do appreciate all your suggestions. I have lists upon lists of suggestions, thoughts, etc.

Just wanted to tell you all that my son will be marching with Jersey Surf this summer. He is beyond excited.

Our current 8th grader is headed to Marching Band in July. He was invited to march this year, but mandatory band camp dates conflicted with our 25th anniversary trip to Hawaii and their slightly later trip to the OshKosh air show with g-parents. These things were booked over a year in advance, and there was no way to change them. It's kind of a shame, as our HS won the State 5A Championship this year, taking the crown away from the two schools in big city near us that trade it back and forth between them.

He just did his 4th honor band last night, and we expect him to make his fifth when they have tryouts in a couple of weeks. He plays tuba, so will be marching sousaphone. He is also enrolled for symphonic band freshman year.
