This is fantastic news - thanks for posting! :bitelip: Now we just have to hope there are no more schedule changes before we get there the last week of October!

I am attempting a massive multi-quote. Hope it works out! A Grand Tuesday to everyone!

Hi!! We will be going back to the GF 10/27-11/2! *highfive* We've stayed all over the resort and our favorite TPV building by far is Boca Chica. We also ask for a first floor room every time - we like the convenience of getting to our room without the elevator.

Enjoy your awesome trip!!

I love the October/November time in WDW and being in GF makes it more magical!

Yeah... that's a good idea. It won't be as frozen as a freezer but it work well enough.
I am actually surprised that the fridges don't have a little freezer since it is a deluxe resort. But, we will make do.
Thanks for the idea!

:lovestruc 41 days until our 1st trip to Disney... we are beyond excited to experience the parks and beautiful Grand Floridian! :goodvibes

Oddly enough, my coffee creamer kept freezing in WL fridge. Go figure!

:wave2: just popping in to say hi & thank everyone who helped me plan.
2 weeks at GF was :cloud9: lots of pixiedust: on check in, with our upgrade from SL to RPC deluxe room, wow!!
The RPC staff was wonderful. Sad we had to leave after 2 days and move to regular room

Our move was Rocky to say the least. We got in our room in Boca Chica, which we requested, but it was a king room with pull out. Bell Service was with me, we booked 2 queen beds. Daughter did not want to sleep in pull out 2 weeks!
Bell service phoned down to get me help. They have the direct phone #. I was basically told too bad. That's what you have. Not, let me see what we can do, or any expected response. Fortunately I had RPC contact info, and one text to them and they had me sorted out in minutes. :thumbsup2. Again, yay RPC!!

We had a room facing Poly, loved watching Electric Water Parade from balcony.
And view from terrace outside Gaspys for Wishes is wonderful. We watched from here several times during our stay.

Loved the Beach Pool. It's so pretty, and the Beach Bar has those lovely Crab Cakes :upsidedow. We never had a problem finding lounges, although have to sometimes clear the used towels people can't be bothered with leaving at the bin they have to walk right by when they leave :rolleyes2. When pool party starts we move to courtyard pool!
With record heat we had pool time most afternoons. Waaay to hot to stay at the parks in the heat of the day.

We had some great meals at GF. Ate twice at Cafe, lunch & dinner. Had to try the Lobster burger, and Shrimp & Cheese Grits. The grits were amazing :thumbsup2 wow!!!
We also ate at Citricos, everyone enjoyed their meals.
Gaspys also had some very nice selections, loved the salad bar, and flat breads. My daughter would order the flatbread pizza & I'd get the chicken or beef salad and we'd share.

During our stay Pinapple Lanai opened at Poly! So went over there a couple of times for Dole floats. And pulled pork nachos at Capt Cooks. Looked better then it tasted, pork Luke warm at best, and sauce was a bechamel with a small amount of cheese added. Wasn't what I expected. I think next time I'll try the fish tacos!

We also went over to CR CS one night to eat. love being on monorail, so many options.

Liked the new rooms, but those dresser drawers :scared: so tiny. We were just 2 so we were ok, but don't know what a family of 4 would do for storage?

The new entry way with Wood flooring is a nice touch. Wish bathroom was given under counter storage to keep counter clutter down. I ended up putting my hair products on top of the safe!

Loved the Mickeys in the drapes, but miss the lamp

Did I mention how hot it was :scared: lol!! And we go every August, but this was the hottest on record in 10 yrs! On the up side, we never got caught in the rain. It didn't rain much, and guess when it did we were at resort. We did have to leave pool a couple times, but didn't rain, just lightening.

Already thinking about January & August trips :rotfl: I think it will be Por for January, and Poly for August. I'll be very curious to see it finished!! It's a tough decision between Poly & YC. We also Enjoy being in Epcot area :scratchin

For anyone interested in how the DAS pass works, it was ok. My friend convinced me to get one, I have a bad knee, and actually next week I'm going in to hospital for knee replacement surgery.
You have to go to each attraction, get the card filled out with a return time, then return. You can only go to one attraction at a time to get return time. So since walking & standing on knee was painful for me, it was somewhat of a help, guess better then nothing. When we had DAS for Space Mtn, I'd just go ride people mover and Buzz if there wasn't a wait untill time to go to Space.
I can see how original GAC was much better as it eliminated the standing around & waiting time, and having to walk to something else & come back, but I never used GAC. So can't compare.

And hopefully I'll be healed enough from knee surgery by January I won't need a pass. ::yes:: I look forward to my next trip being pain free. Fingers crossed.

Thank you for your trip report. I have found CL service to be outstanding in GF. Sorry you had issued with the move but very glad it was sorted to your satisfaction and you enjoyed your trip.

We made it! 1100 miles with the 3 kiddos 4 and under. We got all we wanted with our rooms...connecting since we have a group of 4 rooms. All in Boca Chica with a lovely view of Courtyard Pool. Our room was ready at 1230 when we arrived. Spent a few hours swimming and then to MK. Rode 7DMT with FP+. Amazing! Now time for bed.

I have GF envy! Enjoy your stay.

I unfortunately don't know anything about computers--I don't even know what a photo hosting account is! :confused3 I have a friend who is a little more computer literate, I'll ask her to help me. I was so impressed with the GF that I took a ton of pictures on my phone!

Once I set up my PhotoBucket account I had no problems posting pictures. Resizing is another matter! I try to resize and it laughs at me and says NO! I've been trying to figure it out here at home but no luck so far!

Good Morning Everyone!!!!

I am still here....even though I haven't posted!!! Busy beautiful weekend!!

Just read that the Back Lot Tour is closing!!!! What is going to left at Hollywood Studios. Other then the two big rides, my favorite TSM, Art Academy and few other small rides and shows here and there???? In July, we left so early, because we were DONE with the park...that never happens!!!!

GF IPO told me last week they were expanding Frozen theme stuff into those areas through the end of the year. We all know how rumors are though! I'll find out in 22 days :thumbsup2

We just got back yesterday, and we definitely found our perfect dream vacation home! We loved the GF! It was so beautiful and quiet, and we loved watching fireworks from Narcoossee's and then taking a dip in the hot tub! Our meals at 1800 Park Faire and Narcoosee's were excellent. We visited the Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club, but that area seemed so crowded and busy, and we didn't love the restaurant. We also visited a restaurant at the Polynesian, but so much was hidden by scaffolding, including the pool, and you could see construction dumpsters at the lagoon through the upstairs lobby windows. I had thought we might stay at the Yacht or Beach Club next time to save money, but we would really prefer to stay at the GF again if possible. I hope we get a great offer in the mail for a return trip next September!

Does anyone know how long it would take to walk from the GF to the MK? My husband thinks it would not be too long, but I was so foot sore after our 3rd day that I would not even contemplate it! :p

Thanks!

PS--I guess the only things we didn't love were the lack of a door between the entrance and vanity area and the bedroom. (We had a standard size lagoon view.) I was always the last one to get ready for bed after helping the others and preparing for the next day, and I couldn't use a hair dryer without disturbing the others. But I guess that is typical of all the resorts? I didn't see an outlet in the water closet to use. I also regretted leaving my pillow at home. The pillows were perfectly fine, but mine is older and squishes flatter. LOL. I really missed having it there!

Glad you had a wonderful stay! I take my own pillow as well. My bit of home :goodvibes I like the separation of the vanity from the tub area but it is odd not to have a door in the vanity area.

Hubby and I will be staying at VGF this upcoming week. Yey so excited:hyper: I know the monorail times are limited. Does anyone know what time the boats to MK start to run? We will be doing the Keys to the Kingdom tour and have to be there around 8 am. We prefer to take the boats instead of the bus. TIA.

We too are doing Keys to the Kingdom! CMs have told me boats and buses start running at 7 am. I'm not there though! Seems they are changing Monorail hours again the end of this month. Hopefully that will be in your timeframe!

I forgot to mention...we had a small lizard in our room during our trip to the GF last week. Every once in a while it would startle someone before hiding again. :lmao: We just ignored it. Is this common? We saw many of them outside the building, but only one inside it.

Living in the south you learn to love lizards ;) I'll take lizards any day to spiders and bugs! Last November we had turkeys and peacocks wander up to our ground floor patio!

You have a great attitude. Me? ... Not so much! What floor were you on?

You have a great attitude. Me? ... Not so much! What floor were you on?

We were on the 4th floor. I'm not sure how it got there, but I didn't want to ask hubby to kill it. I just ignored it. Lizards are kind of cute, and I've never heard of them biting anyone... at least not the tiny lizards. LOL I'll pick lizards over spiders or bugs any day.

Oh goody. I hope the boats do start running at 7 am. Hubby isn't really a fan of the busses. And I saw the new monorail schedule. We will be there for that. The only alternative might be to take the monorail to the Contemporary and walk to MK.

Hey, mickeynut!

So does Sandy Cove only sell it in gallons? I had heard that gallon jugs dont fit, but half gallons do. We are staying in a standard room.

Here's a photo from last month - are those yellow jugs milk? I assume so, although they are next to the OJ so I am not sure.

Oh, I'm sorry! I misunderstood your message, I thought you were asking about how to send from your phone - didn't understand you need help with posting photos at all.:teeth:

To post a photo on the DIS, you must first make an account on a photo hosting website, like flikr or Photobucket. Then, upload your photos to that site, copy the link and paste it into your posts.

If I can get my computer to cooperate, I'll try to respond to your message better.:flower3:

I hope the next 21 days goes fast for you :yay:.

Hey, mickeynut!

Hi there :wave2:...hope things are going well with you and I hope your mom is doing better :flower3:.

Thanks for popping in, I hope you are getting back into your normal routine :flower3:. Can't wait to see all of your beautiful pics.

Hi ahcupcake :)

Hope the "big" birthday trip plans are coming along, it's always fun planning a Disney trip but it's more exciting when it's for a special celebration :goodvibes.

I hear you on being busy, things have been a little crazy around here, too....not a lot of computer time for me either. It's crazy how so many things are closing at DHS :sad2:. We do enjoy DHS, but find we don't spend alot of time there as we seem to get everything we want to do done in very little time.

I agree.

Congrats on your upcoming GF stay :).

1. Doing OCI is a matter of preference and while we have never done it, there are others who love it. I prefer to check in at the resort in person and chat with the front desk CM. As far as which building is best, that's another personal preference. Big Pine Key and Boca Chica are close to the main building and beach pool, but Sago Cay might be a little quieter as it's located away from the courtyard pool and close to the convention center.

2/3. We don't use DME, so I can't help with a time frame for arriving at the resort or for luggage delivery.

4. I can't answer from experience, but from what I've read on these boards, you will be given a pick up time of about 3 hours prior to your flight, as trisha posted, which would be 5:00 pm. With that said, I have seen it recommended to arrive at the pick up spot 15 minutes prior to that time as sometimes the buses are early.

Welcome back, glad you had a great stay and enjoyed the GF :goodvibes.

As trisha posted, there is no walkway to MK.

Have a great time :cool1:.

Those deluxe rooms look amazing and is definitely on my list to try the next time we stay RPC ::yes::.

I bet it was nice to see so many weddings.

Congrats on having booked your trip for next August. We are talking about a July trip back to the Poly next July. We loved the Poly before all of the construction/renovations, but I am excited to see it finished.

:faint:

Thank you!! Is it true that the lagoon view rooms in Sago and Conch view the castle? If yes then we would see the fireworks and the water pageant from our balcony there? Read that but seems to good to be true.

53 days away from checking in to the GF! We're doing 3 days first at the Dark Side, haven't been there in over 20 years. While roaming MDE, I see that On Line Check In is available. I didn't realize it would pop up this "far" away from check in. I've read various comments on the boards about whether doing On Line Check In has any value.

When we went down last December, we checked in at the BC and it was probably around noon. The CM mentioned we could have done On Line Check In, indicating our early arrival. I'm not sure if that was a hint that in the future, if we're going to be early, we should do On Line Check In with regards to getting our room sooner. They were supposed to text us when the room became available but we never got a text. We went to the front desk around 2:30 and a really nice wandering CM stopped us and checked us in.

Since we're going to be in the area anyway, (Dark Side), I'm wondering if I may as well just try this On Line Check In thing. We do have a 11:40 reservation at San Angel Inn so clearly, we're going to make sure the taxi gets us to the GF quite early, possibly as early as 8-8:30 am.

So, with that, we have TPV booked, and I've read a lot of posts with regards to the "best" TPV building. It seems like Conch is getting the vote but the diagram indicates that Boca or even BPK may have good views of MK. I believe I'm going to request a lower floor, as I'm hoping to limit the big tree blockage issue. Any thoughts from the experts here? There is a notation asking if an early check in is more important than a room location. I'd say no, as we're going to lunch anyway. If you had a preference, which building would you ask for?
Thanks as always to the experts on this board. :coffee:

We just decided to head down for the halloween party mid october and I had been messing around with dates trying to find something at a resort we like over a party date. I was finally able to book a deluxe garden view room at the grand floridian with the AP discount. This will be our first time staying there in a very long time not club level. We'd like to overlook the pool if possible. Does anyone happen to know where the deluxe rooms are? mainly in one building or evenly distributed?

Thanks! very excited! Now if we can just get lucky with some tickets for the soiree ;)

Hey all!

Just got back from our trip 9/15-9/22, had a great time! Didn't get the room I originally hoped for, but did get a turret room with a decent view 4430! Could see part of the water parade and the higher fireworks from world showcase @ Epcot.

Staff was great in RPC, used the texting service a few times for dining/fast passes and it worked out fairly smoothly.

Only thing I didn't like were the pillows.... man were they uncomfortable! Everything else was great though!

Had dinner at V&A's Queen Victoria room, and wow that was amazing! I would say it is up there with best meals I have had, definitely want to try to get the Chef's table next trip. Also ate at Citrico's but wasn't as impressed with their food.

It is apparently impossible to find polo shirts around WDW (outside of 1 or 2 designs), was able to find a GF polo in the mens shop but had no luck finding anything at the other parks (aside from a golfing mickey / dwarf shirt that was everywhere).

One thing I didn't know (that was a bit of a pain) was the monorail doesn't stay open for late night EMH @ MK. We went to MK from about 10pm-1230am on Saturday and when we left the park the monorail was already shut down and the line for the boats was super long! Took almost 45 min to get back :(

Jen congrats on being able to book a last minute trip...and with the AP rate too! :goodvibes Boca Chica has deluxe rooms overlook the pool and courtyard area directly...:cloud9: Hope that you are as lucky getting the soiree tickets too! :wizard:

Thanks! I requested boca chica when I did online check in. I'm now seeing main building club level standard room available for our dates but I think we'll stick with the deluxe room although I'm torn. It will be both my parents, myself and 5 year old so I think we will appreciate the extra space :)

There is more than 1 monorail? Help this Disney World newcomer!!! :confused3

:lovestruc 37 more days until 9 days at the Grand Floridian... can't wait to be immersed in the happiest place on Earth!

Hi all!
Since my family will be at GF for 9 days... I was thinking of purchasing items from 'Garden Grocer': Breakfast foods (bagels, cereal/ granola bars, etc.), case of water, some snacks, and a couple of bottles of wine; possibly even some health/ beauty needs.

I noticed that someone was nice enough to post a picture of the refrigerated drinks... I think I saw wine in those pics. Someone else posted pics of food in the hotel as well.
How expensive is wine and breakfast foods, etc. in the resort? Am I better off getting my needs from Garden Grocer? I can't imagine resort items being a reasonable price.
Thanks,
Kim :cutie:

Yep, there is the resort beam which runs GF - MK - CR - TTC - Poly - GF
The express beam runs from MK - TTC - MK
Epcot Beam runs from TTC - Epcot - TTC

(GF - Grand Floridian MK - Magic Kingdom CR - Contemporary Resort - TTC - transportation and ticket center - Poly - Polynesian)

To get to Epcot from the GF you have to take the monorail to the TTC and then get off and transfer to the Epcot beam for instance.

Hope this helps!
