Hello, my Grand friends!! Sorry I've been off the boards for a while, we visited the World and then I spent some time with my DD in DC. Since I've been home, I've had a lot to do with my mom, who was in the hospital.

I have some photos of the GF, but I haven't gotten them uploaded yet. I'll try to do that in the next couple days, just in time to start a new thread.

Hope everyone has had a great time planning for and/or taking their trips to the Grand.:goodvibes I've got a lot to catch up on.

It's good to "see" you again! Hope your mom is ok.

Good evening! Long-time lurker here, finally making my first post!! I'm heading down for my first stay at the GF November 15-22! I'm getting married at Poly and having our wedding dinner at V&A's. We're doing the Memories package and my mom is the only guest coming, and the only one who knows our plans! I decided to upgrade our SL stay to RPC (since we're already paying full rack rate for everything and I said why the heck not! What's one more upgrade with the amount of $ we're already spending! Why stop now lol :confused3) Can anyone recommend any RPC floors/rooms etc? We have the standard room, but I noticed on the booking page it says "Views of Courtyard Pool, Magic Kingdom Park or Seven Seas Lagoon"; is this true? Is there a way to see SSL or MK from a standard RPC room? I do not want a dormer room as high/cathedral ceilings in hotels freak me out!

My mom is staying 11/16-11/19, in a GV room and deluxe room since I was able to get the 30% discount but when the CM tried to grab the GV room back someone had snatched it up  I'm managing EVERYTHING for everyone as I am the planner and disney guru. I just need to figure out what building to request for her reservations, ideally I want her to be as close to us in the main building as possible.

Thanks again and thank you for all of the wonderful and informative information you all post!!!!!!! :wizard:

:welcome:

I would send an email to IPO not to have a 5th floor room and don't be afraid to tell them why in the nice way you told us.

I will let the pros tell you more but wanted to congratulate you! I have stayed in SL and RPC and you will be glad you upgraded.

Also they do sometimes let family members join you. Just nicely ask, the worse that can happen is that they say no. (In the lounge)

I'll be at poly 18-21. Wish I was there to see your wedding!

You don't at least have to do everything. The people on this thread are the best and will help you anyway they can:)

I just now learned about the refurbed rooms. And I don't like them all. What's this thread's majority view on the new rooms?

Hello, Ladies!
I am not a sneaker person... for some reason they make my feet tired. I did buy Crocs Sexiflips. I do like them - but I was looking for something with more cushion if my feet start aching with the Crocs. I have been checking out the Sketchers GoWalk 2 Axis. Does anyone use those at Disney World? Any other suggestions?
Thanks so much,
Kim

I actually never stayed at Disney World. But when I started looking at my choices for our family's dream trip... I ruled out the GF because I didn't really like the previous style. When I found out they recently updated all their rooms- I was thrilled and booked immediately (after receiving the PIN CODE). I like the new style better than the old Victorian look.
Just my opinion... I know I have read elsewhere, like on TripAdvisor, that some people are disappointed with the change. I read somewhere that is smells new- new paint, new carpet, etc. I really like new or newly renovated hotels ::MinnieMo

I have worn Crocs but I actually prefer Born sandals. Lots of cushion and comfort. I have plantar fasciitis and I don't have to wear inserts with them.

It does take long !!! :faint:

However when you get there and it all works out you will be glad you did it:yay:

My 60 days on Thursday! Staying at poly this one but will be in your lobby for the gingerbread house!!! :santa:

I have been working on my times and choices and if anyone else going(Blue) fantasmic closed 11/19-21 :rolleyes2MK closes at 7pm on mvmcp, that week both 11/20 and 21. If that is not enough the annual disney cast member appreciation is 11/20 so HS closes at 4pm. :sad2:

Not to worry! I will give my mom the best trip everpixiedust:

It just took a little finagling but I got in everything I wanted. Now I just need to get it from paper to DME:laughing:

Good luck!!

Best tip I got for hard to get FPP (A&E and 7DMT) was start with last day and move backwards. I got 7DMT for days 6 and 7 that way (was not trying for A&E). Could not get it or parades for Day 1. Take the option with times closest to what you want but don't worry about times too much. After you have initial selections, go back in and adjust times.

Let us know how it goes. Fingers crossed!!

Where did u find the Izzy costume?! We have 2 boys and a girl and I joked about having them dress as Jake, Cubby, and Izzy...not even knowing they make an Izzy costume!

They're at the Disney stores BUT Marshall's has an AMAZING pirate Izzy costume (or TJ Maxx too) for $30 and it's gorgeous. Really. Best I've seen! I was kinda disappointed my DD didn't want to be a pirate when I saw it! She wants to be Ariel and do the pirates league so Ariel dress won over Izzy.

The kid's costumes and costume gowns at Marshall's btw are fabulous, well made, and super affordable for the high quality. I had to buy my kiddo 3! I basically bribed my DH who was wondering if I was possessed or what! I'm not usually like okay, let's just randomly buy kiddo 3 gown costumes (lolol) but I knew I'd regret not buying them.

The Cinderella ($40!) has ice blue velvet and a lined satin cape trimmed with fake fur! The Rapunzel is also breathtaking. If I knew how to link here to my Instagram I'd show them off because they are that lovely. Suteishiquake if you're up for hunting.

Hi
I we are going for our 1st GF stay in 10/28. Yeah! We usually stay at the Poly or CR but it's our 10th anniversary so we are doing the GF. We booked a TPV and I haven't seen much about room request for that category. Is one building better than another? Higher floor better than lower? I haven't made a room request as I have no idea what to request any help/advice would be great!
TIA

Hi
We are so excited for our 1st stay at GF. We are going 10/28 for our 10th anniversary. We are a family of 5 and booked a TPV as we love watching the fireworks from our room when the kids have gone to bed. We have stayed at CR & poly but are new to GF. I have lurked on this thread but didn't see too much on TPV. So...

What does one building offer a better view of fireworks/castle? And

Does what floor you're on make a difference?

So excited!

TIA

We just got back late last night from our first stay at The Grand Floridian! We were there 6 nights in the RPC. All I can say is WOW! We stepped off Magical Express and were met by Dan who took us on a quick tour of the building and took us to our room. At first I was a little upset because I had requested 4th floor, closest to lounge, no dormer. We got 5th floor, directly across the lounge and a dormer. I cannot say how much I loved this room! (Room 4026) It was absolutely perfect! Loved the balcony and the view was spectacular! We were directly across from the kid's splash area and the main pool. EVERY cast member at The GF was amazing! The Lounge attendants were wonderful. I spent a few evenings just hanging out talking with them. I absolutely loved the resort! The only problem we had was with the buses in the mornings, but I had some friends staying the same time at a different resort and they had problems too. Seems it was a site-wide problem. We've stayed at The Polynesian for the last 8 years and always loved it there. After this last week, I think we've found a new favorite resort in the GF!
Thank you to all of you that answered my questions prior to our trip. I really appreciate it! If anyone has any questions, please ask away! :goodvibes

Welcome back and thanks for your report, glad you had a great trip. RPC is amazing as are the CL CMs :goodvibes. We love the Poly as well as it's our favorite resort, but the GF runs a very close second.

Longtime lurker but prompted to post on this thread because I recently won a trip to WDW!!

I was given the choice of any deluxe resort and we picked the Grand Floridian (we have never stayed there). They have booked it for us and I notice we have a lagoon view. Is there anything particular or any building I should request when I do online check in?

I've read the first few pages of this thread but I just can't go through every page.

Thank you for any advice or tips for a great stay at GF!

Welcome to the GF thread :flower3:.

Congratulations on the trip. I think all outer buildings have LVs and since the resort isn't all that spread out, none of them are far from the main areas. With that said, Big Pine Key and Boca Chica are two of my favorite outer buildings. Have a great trip and I hope you will report back after your stay :wizard:.

The resport is so small that even if you are in the furthest building you have no more than a 5 minute walk to anywhere.

Tom

:thumbsup2

Hi GF fans,

DH and I will be staying at the GF for the first time at the end of October. I have a few questions that I was hoping you could help me with.

We've booked a LV and based on my research have decided to request Boca Chica. We do not want a dormer room. Which floors are best to request and might there be an opportunity to see the castle or space mountain from Boca Chica being booked in a LV? How about the water parade? Does a request for a certain building often get honored?

How many days before we leave should I make the request? Should I simply call the hotel?

Thanks for such a fun and informative thread!

I would call CRO and add your requests now. There's no way of calling the resort directly as calling the number associated with the GF will get you a call center. As far as what to request, I think "high floor/non-dormer" would let the room assigner know what you're wanting. Requests are not guaranteed, but Disney will do everything they can to accommodate you. If you happen to get a lower floor or dormer room, you can always ask if a different room is available. It isn't guaranteed that something else will be available, but it never hurts to ask ;).

NINE DAYS until my first GRAND stay!!! I am so excited! I wanted to thank you all for all of your amazing knowledge and advice. Planning would not have been as easy without you all!

Hugs to all!!!

Have a great trip :dance3:.

60 days!! Did our Fastpasses tonight at 9 pm (west coasters) from the Disneyland Hotel! Tagged along with sister who had a conference and we had crazy hot weather above 100 degrees with humidity. Crazy!

Something ironic about doing FPP from here. I spent two hours checking, double checking and adjusting. Exhausting but I got everything! Blessedly didn't need frozen characters but did get 7DMT last two days.

Thanks for everyone's help in DIS boards!

How exciting....glad you got everything you wanted :cool1:.

I requested Boca Chica when I did online check in. I would like an unconstructed pool view on a higher floor ( not dormer room). Any suggestions?

I don't think there are any obstructed pool views from Boca Chica, but hopefully someone else will be able to verify that (or correct me if I'm wrong). With that said, I would request "high floor/non-dormer". As I suggested to the poster above, if you are given a dormer room or a low floor, ask if something on a higher floor (that is not a dormer) is available. It's not guaranteed, but I have found the CMs very accommodating and always willing to help as much as they can :goodvibes.

Our stay is in two weeks and I'm sure I will love the smell and want to buy it! I'm very olfactory and "collect" scents that remind me of places.

Have a great trip :wizard:.

We are 31 days away from our first GF stay. Yeah!

Debbie

You will be on your way before you know it :cheer2:.

We will be there starting saturday.

Thanks again and thank you for all of the wonderful and informative information you all post!!!!!!!

Congrats on your upcoming wedding and your first GF RPC stay :wizard:. My favorite view from an RPC room is overlooking the beach pool/SSL/Poly. I think some of that view is a little obstructed by the VGF, but from pics I've seen, it's still a pretty view. I would request "3rd or 4th floor, overlooking beach pool".

The GF isn't that spread out so none of the outer buildings are far from the main building, but my two favorites are Big Pine Key and Boca Chica. Both are very close to the main building.

I just now learned about the refurbed rooms. And I don't like them all. What's this thread's majority view on the new rooms?

Unfortunately, I don't like the new rooms at all. This is just my opinion, but I think the furnishings are mismatched and too many Disney touches were taken away :(.

Leaving for the Grand on Halloween night!!!!!

I can't help as I'm a flip flop gal, but hopefully others will have some suggestions :flower3:.

We've never had a TPV, but Boca Chica seems to be the building that a lot of others like for TPV. With that said, hopefully others who have stayed TPV will have some input as to what might be the best to request :).

I've never stayed in a TPV room but looking at the map on the first page I would choose either Sago (closest to main building) or Conch (least close to main building). The end rooms on these buildings seem to look straight to the MK. Top floors mostly have enclosed instead of rail balconies so I would not choose those unless that wouldn't bother you!

Hope this is some help! :)

What requests do people make for Sugar Loaf? Our last stay we were on ground floor and liked having quick / easy access to the lounge. I have requested ground floor again but am second guessing myself as there was zero view from the ground floor. Are there good views from the upper floors? Do you think view trumps easy access to the room and club lounge?

Thanks in advance.
