Hello all.

Has anyone seen the newly refurbished club lounge in Sugarloaf?
Headed there in Sept. While I have read a number of negatives about the Sugarloaf Club level experience here on these boards, I am hoping the re-do will help the matter. Ideas? Thoughts? Photos??

Good Morning :wave2: My fellow GF lovers and first timers!

It's gonna be hazy hot & humid here in my part of PA. UGH

I'd love to join you on this thread. Have just decided to book GF for my 50th birthday trip next summer...... No kids, no husbands ...... Just me and my sister and cousin who also happen to be two of my best friends. Can't wait. My sister and I did an adults only trip in 2012- stayed at the beach club and my cousin joined my son and I for a few days in 2011 at CSR but this will be the first trip for all 3 of us together. Now just need the rates to come out for 2015...... Any idea when that will be?
Happy early Birthday! Happy planning.....I think the rates for next year should be out by the end of August beginning of September or at least thats how it used to be. You could book now but you would be charged the highest rate for the resort but then it would be adjusted when next years came out.

Good afternoon, GF groupies...:)

I'm back from a brief visit at WDW (first at a DD hotel and finishing up at the WL). Even tho the WL was at 100%, it never looked busy, and we were able to easily have a couple of meals in Whispering Canyon (hubby loved the skillets) without ressies.
I have to say, those July 4th fireworks are spectacular!!! pixiedust: (this is my fireworks icon) We viewed them from the grass in front of Narcoosee's....I believe only those who had dining ressies there were allowed on the porch, but we just plopped down on a beach towel on the grass and had a prime viewing spot. I have always wanted to see them and was not disappointed! :cloud9: The fireworks were really my excuse for the trip....but we also went over to Cape Canaveral to the Space Center one day.

DH and I (I really should say non-DH, as he is not a fan ) visited the GF (lobby as well as the GF Cafe) and had a scrumptious meal at the cafe. Shrimp and grits...holy cow, what a dish!! I also visited the lobby on another day, listened to some music and walked around the grounds and had a snack at Gaspie's. And also visited in the SL lounge to get a look at the remodel. Ok by me...:thumbsup2
Welcome back Grannyminnie. Glad you had a great time at the WL and mini visits to the GF. Thanks for your review!

Yes there are! :coffee:

Hello there ahcupcake Always nice to see you..many thanks for the H2O links! :thumbsup2 Sorry that you don't have any trip planned for the near future... Sending good wishes that you will be back at your fave resort in 2015..
Hey Blue . You're Welcome! Well right now I have tentative plans for that BIG birthday that we ladies really don't like. I think the MK is also celebrating that same number that year

Morning....lovely day here..:)....just wish I was still in WDW! ;)

Hi, ahcupcake:wave2:...always good to see you posting here! I'm also looking for your next vacation ticker to appear..
:wave2: Hi grannyminnie......I could make a ticker but I don't think it would let me go that far in advance;):lmao::rolleyes::

Good morning all. I have been an old poster here back in the days. I needed my Disney and GF fix and decided to join in.:goodvibes

Hi Blue, Mickeynut, Ahcupcake!!:wave2:

Magical
:wave2: Hi magical

This coming December, 2 nights AKV,(our home) Jambo and 2 nights VGF..CANNOT WAIT!:thumbsup2

First "childless" trip to WDW as youngest DS will be tucked away at college.
First time ever seeing WDW during the HOLIDAY TIME!:santa:

Just booked the Candlelight Processional Dinner Package and now really getting EXCITED!:yay:

Friends have talked about going to F&W in October...they go "childless" and apparently have a blast!

What in your opinion makes the F&W very SPECIAL? I gather that there are different food offerings that are not offered any other time of year?

Wow, October is a beautiful month to be at WDW! Maybe '15! Never too early to start "thinking"! Love the planning!:cool1:
I love F&W....I'm kind of a picky eater (yes I say this even though my fav restaurant is Victoria & Albert's). It let's you try new foods you might not try otherwise. Each serving is 2 or 3 bites. What my mom & do is go through the menus for each booth( there is a sticky post on the dining board that will have the menus posted) and we picked what we wanted to try at each booth and we would then share each item(except the beverages). Yes there are extra more countries represented in addition to the ones already there. Also you can get what they call a Festival Passport these are available for FREE at the Festival center and you present it at the booth register and they will stamp if, it's a nice souvenir

Hello! We have just had a change of plans and will be staying at the GF for our upcoming vacation :):):). We are booked for a garden view. I have read up and it seems like the GF staff is good at working with you to find a room within your category to fit your needs.

I was wondering if I could get some advice. My dd has some special needs, so I need to minimize distance walking if possible, and find a quiet area (for example pool noise would be a problem). For reference she did quite nicely at the POR river view royal room and she has done well with a garden view at POFQ. POR was so great in giving us a room that had a convenient location I am hoping GF will be as helpful.

Would you recommend a particular building I should keep in mind when checking in? I am thinking Big Pine Key would be good for less walking but may be more noisy, so perhaps Conch Key or Boca Chica would be a better bet? I am also thinking an upper floor would be quieter so will ask for that. Any advice would be much appreciated. I am not familiar with this resort size compared to the Port Orleans resorts, so I am having a hard time figuring out what area we should shoot for.

Thank you!
Congrats on your GF stay! I was going to suggest Conch Key or Boca Chica. Yes Conch is further but you won't have the noise of the pool outside of your window

Hello all.
We are headed down to stay at the GF club level this September mid month.
Now, I have to admit to this forum that we are die-hard Polynesian Club goers. But for the next year our beloved Poly is being turned upside down, so we are out.
I had heard nasty rumors that the Sugarloaf Lounge was not as nice as the main building lounge and that they don't serve wine, beer, or aperitifs. My wife and I need that at days end. So I called the concierge today. She said ...
1. They serve the EXACT same food and drinks. Including the above. And...
2. They are just finishing renovating those rooms and the lounge. I've seen room pics---BIG improvement! I was curious. Does anyone have, or have you seen any NEW, REFURBISHED lounge photos anywhere..?
Just want to make sure I should not move over to the main building.

Thanks for the help if you know anything!

Chris H.

Chris At one time SL didn't serve alcohol but they do now and have done so for MANY years..That was some seriously old info you had.......I think people say they don't like SL is because it is smaller than RPC..... Disser by the name of Baler has posted some pics on twitter of her recent trip here is the link to those pics, just click the pic to make it larger for a better view https://twitter.com/TFW1965

So with the renovating of all the rooms (which are looking great) at the GF and SL Lounge...Are they renovating the RPC as well?
If they haven't started working on RPC now they will soon

I'll tell ya- being that we stayed @ GF last yr during DVC construction and the Poly (torn up as it is we will still the make best of it!) in 18 Days, it's so nice to stay at not just a fully running resort but one right after renovation!! :)

You're welcome.....hope you have a great trip :goodvibes.

The link I provided above when I responded to your first post has a few pics of the SL lounge/entrance, as does the twitter link that ahcupcake provided ;).

Hi ahcupcake :)

I hope your birthday trip works out and you are able to celebrate at the GF :wizard:.

Not sure how far out your tentative trip is, but I've seen tickers go a few years out ;).

Hey everyone.....thanks for the great info on the Club Lounges. ESPecially thanks for the photos. They tell much more than words do and proved very helpful.

Thanks again!

What should we request as far as where to stay?

It's going to be me, DH, DD is 3 and my Mom 11/11-11/18. My husband has graciously agreed to sleep in the daybed (or cot? is there a cot? he's not too picky and sleeps everywhere, planes, cars, etc. It's so often that his ability to sleep anywhere is almost a superpower.). We'll need two queens because I usually sleep with the nighttime ninja/co-sleeping kung fu champion (kiddo).

We're in an outer building garden view (all they had with dining plan and I was so wanting to do club level but we're on deluxe plan). Any thoughts? I was thinking an upper level because I worry that kiddo will open the porch and go wandering. Not that she ever has, but the world is another world.

And we don't need it so quiet (we use a sound machine app) but she can be loud and I don't want to disturb other people.

BTW is it hard to get a microwave? Kiddo is a notorious late night snacker although she slept soundly at WDW last time AND napped in a stroller every day. See what I mean by Disney Miracles??? :rotfl:

Thanks!

Hi everyone!

Once upon a time, when DH and I checked in to another resort, we were surprised with an "upgrade." Turns out we were put in a handicap-accessible room with a king bed because it was only the 2 of us and our standard view room with 2 queens was probably given to a family of 4. While I loved the new view, DH was not pleased with the lower bed and the roll in shower. He wanted me to ask the experts (aka you all) what the probably of this happening to us at GF would be. I guess so he can practice his polite yet firm voice in the event that a move needs to be requested ;)

TIA! :goodvibes

Thought of you all while using one of my stashed shower gels a bit ago!

:goodvibes

Hi Blue and friends! Still keeping up-to-date on the GF. Hope all who are going soon have a GRAND time! I'm dreaming of next year all ready.

Have a good day.

Hello there MommyG You know this is the right place to start dreaming about your next trip!! :thumbsup2

I know that your question has been answered :thumbsup2..Just wanted to say ..Welcome..Holiday time at the Grand is even Grander than usual and the Candlelight Processional is such a wonderful and moving show...:)

I know that you already got a few opinions and recommendations...but wanted to say Welcome to you too! :goodvibes

Just switched to GF!

It's my niece's first time at GF and she wanted to stay here after going to the Princess Tea last trip.

We have a Lagoon room booked and I was wondering if I should request a particular building, floor, etc?

Any advice is welcome! Thanks in advance!

I would say Boca Chica has some very lovely LV..as does Big Pine Key...both of these buildings are right next to each other...since LV is pretty specific I would only request a particular room type if you have a preference..upper floor..non dormer room etc... What a special trip with your niece...Enjoy! :goodvibes

So with the renovating of all the rooms (which are looking great) at the GF and SL Lounge...Are they renovating the RPC as well?

RPC is currently under renovation..and will be reopened by the months end...:thumbsup2

Just wanted to pop in with two things......

A. LittleMissMagic posted some beautiful new photos taken of a renovated dormer room on the GF photo thread that can be seen here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1768829&page=48
There are some really great shots of the elusive nesting table (yay!) and the bath product line up (yay again!)

B. I am at the two weeks mark :cheer2:

Thanks so much for posting that link Amanda...:goodvibes As for being at the TWO week mark!!!! :yay: :yay: :yay: WooHoo!!!

I don't think that being place in a HA room without specifically booking one is very common...Did you request a room with a king bed?? Maybe there are more King HA rooms..I am not really sure about that... Just a reminder..if you check into a room that you are not happy with don't hesitate to request a change.. I am sure that the front desk at the GF will be very accomodatiing... ::yes::

MickeyNut Thanks so much for adding that link to Balers SL pics...:thumbsup2 And for all of your spot on recommendations!

ahcupcake I think that the GF is the perfect place to celebrate that "special" birthday...please don't forget to invite your friends along...We will be happy to help you in your celebrations!! :woohoo:

grannieminnie Whatcha up to today?? Or did I just miss your post with all of the chatting going on here???

quakechicago Ground floor rooms at the GF have enclosed patios..same as the upper floor balconies with railing..and with landscaping in front of them....not an open patio that some of the other resorts have..there are also high door locks on the sliders..to discourage any wandering from young children I would imagine...most rooms also sleep 5..and have two queen beds and a day bed..so room for everyone in your party...

~ Magic Bands.... while I would certainly prefer mine to be made up of a precious metal...;)..and encrusted with pretty stones and bling in general...lol...I have found the band itself to be pretty comfortable...and not really bothersome at all.... although I wouldn't mind if it was just a bit thinner..more suitable to a womans wrist.... :thumbsup2

~~ I think that we may have to start a toiletries hoarders club around here...so many of us...not me of course :rolleyes1......lol...seem to have the same :lovestruc of them....and I see from LittleMissMagic's lovely pics..that Grace&Carolinene so graciously posted a link to that there will indeed be solar gel included with the usual toiletries that we all like to take home (hoard...lol...) This is a first in standard rooms.. and even CL ones that I have seen at the GF...Just had a stay in RPC..and there was not any solar gel insight.... Something to look foward to hoarding in the future...lol...

Hope that everyone had a wonderful Wednesday!! :cutie: preppy GF gal who finally got an ADR for her MVCP nite!!! :woohoo:

Over on my smilies..yet again!

Well I made the switch again. I debated about this in another thread, but I did end up booking main building, RPC, standard room for the week of November 16th (I'm keeping my fingers crossed that a deluxe room opens up). The past two years have been very tough for my family (health) and I want to make the most of this trip.

Hello everyone. :wave2: We are going to be in WDW for 13 days in August and I'm considering doing laundry half way thru our stay rather than packing 13 days worth of clothes for 4 people. We are staying RPC and I read on the first page that there is only one washer machine and one dryer in the main building. Is this still accurate? Do you know if the other buildings also only have one washer and one dryer? I really hate doing laundry and have never done it at WDW but like I said, there will be 4 of us and we will be there for almost 2 weeks, we take breaks in the afternoon, shower/change before heading back out most days so that would be a lot of clothes to pack. I usually wake up very early so I figure that the laundromat wouldn't be busy at 5/5:30 in the morning. :laundry:

P.S.

Any word on if the main building is still on target to start the refurb on the 29th?

I'm not sure if washers and dryers are located in other buildings but in the main building there are two sets of washers and dryers. I went down there around noon once, washed three loads and no one else entered the room the entire time, and this was around Spring Break.

Just wanted to pop in with two things......

B. I am at the two weeks mark :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Very nice. I love all of the spa items in the bathroom.

Baler, your pics are beautiful! :worship: Disney needs to hire you because you have made me feel much better about switching over (again). The SL lounge looks so nice and upscale now. ::yes::

Oh and Baler, it looks like you were in a deluxe room. Are the large desks only in those rooms? I've seen some pics of regular rooms and I thought they kept the small desk by the beds and removed the larger desks which were used for room service. I hope they decided to keep both.

Very excited to be staying at GF in September! I have stayed only once, thanks to my BFF. This time it'll be me, DD who's 4 and DH. I have been reading the posts and get more excited after reading each one! I haven't found the answer to this question yet, so I thought I'd ask. DD loves to fly kites. I was thinking how magical it would be, one evening at dusk, to go fly a kite on the shores of the GF beach. But I'm wondering if we could even do that? Thanks and have a magical day! pixiedust:

Requesting a certain floor is a personal decision, but I prefer an upper floor with a balcony to first floor with a patio. As BlueSkies posted, the patios are enclosed by a railing as well as landscape, so there's really no way to get out to the grounds via the patio. Also, from what has been reported since the refurb, it looks like all rooms now have a daybed, so your room should consist of 2 queens and a daybed since you have 4 people.

As far as building/room location, I think the GF is pretty quiet overall, but IMO, Sago Cay and Conch Key would be the quietest areas since they are located over by the marina. Big Pine Key and Boca Chica overlook the courtyard pool and are a little closer to the main building and beach pool with more action. I can't answer about the microwave as we've never had a need for one.

As BlueSkies posted, HA/king bed rooms are usually given by request, however, sometimes guests might get them because that's what's available. With that said, you could put a request on your reservation for 2 queens. If you happen to get a HA room, you can always go back to the front desk and request a different room :).

MickeyNut Thanks so much for adding that link to Balers SL pics...:thumbsup2 And for all of your spot on recommendations!

preppy GF gal who finally got an ADR for her MVCP nite!!! :woohoo:

You're very welcome :goodvibes.

Congrats on getting an ADR for your party night :cool1::cool1:. Where did you end up booking?

Good morning all! Quick question - is there a bathroom near the SL lounge?

5 more days!!!! :dance3::yay::thumbsup2:cool1::cheer2:

I don't remember seeing a bathroom close to the lounge. With that said, hopefully someone else will be able to give a definite answer :flower3:.

Yay for only 5 more days......hope you have a great trip :wizard:.

The closest restroom would be right across the courtyard..on the other side of the CY pool..there are not any in the lounge area like they have at some of the other CLs...

FIVE days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:moped: :woohoo:

Congrats on booking RPC for your family trip!! :goodvibes Sorry for the health issues...hope that they are all behind you.. The deluxe room that Baler posted pics of was in an outer building...the configurations of deluxe rooms in the main building are different..there is more info about them on the first page of this thread.. If a deluxe room is what you really want just keep checking for availability..(BTW these are not bookable on line...you have to call...) Hoping that you get the deluxe room....and enjoy a wonderful vacation!:wizard:

What a nice family trip! I am sure it will be Grand! :goodvibes Never seen anyone flying a kite at WDW...so not sure if there would be any restrictions...I sould suggest just checking at the front desk of the resort...:thumbsup2

Mickeynut Ended up booking LTT...I was really hoping for the Plaza..but as the saying goes beggars can't be choosers...lol..Last time I had dinner at LTT was with you! And while I loved the company...:goodvibes ...I wasn't wowed by the meal...gonna give it another try though...I really love the lunch that they serve there....

~ Heads up to all of the Poly peeps here..from a future Poly princess..lol..two calls to central reservations..for other requests.. I have been told that the GF pool would be available to Poly guests...????? :confused3 as well as a water park day.... Not sure if its accurate but sharing the info...

Good morning to all the rest of my GF groupies...Hope that you all have a terrific Thursday!! :earsgirl:

I never get the Solar Gel.

Could it be because I always book a standard garden view room, outer building? :confused3

I hope you have a better experience at LTT this time around :wizard:. With that said, if the Plaza is your first choice, keep checking as you never know if/when something might become available ;).

That's interesting that you were told Poly guests now have access to the GF pools, as well as a water park day. I guess no one will really know for sure until someone reports back at the end of July/beginning of August when the Poly pool is actually closed, but I found it strange that Disney took that option away from Poly guests and then gave the WL guests the option of using the CR pool as well as the FW pool . I know if I was a Poly guest and had no pool option, but found out that WL guests had TWO pool options, I wouldn't be very happy :rolleyes1.

I never get the Solar Gel.

Could it be because I always book a standard garden view room, outer building? :confused3

In all my years of staying in RPC, we have never ever gotten solar gel and we go every year in the hottest month. I'm curious if we'll have it this year.

You're welcome :). Have a great trip.

Congrats on another GF stay :wizard:. I can't answer about flying a kite on the beach, but maybe someone else will be able to help :).

Thank you so much! :goodvibes

:earsgirl:

Thank you. :goodvibes Oh really? I guess those deluxe rooms only have 1 King bed. That won't work for my family of 4. Oh well. And I didn't know it was only bookable on the phone. Is that the same for the MK view room? Thanks for the info!

Really? I thought the Poly guests did have access a few months ago and now they're being given vouchers to a water park. I hope this won't make the GF pools crowded. :crowded:

Is anyone else having issues looking at room rates online?

You're welcome :).

There are RPC deluxe rooms with 2 queens :thumbsup2. I think I have seen the RPC deluxe king online, but never the deluxe queen, so you would have to call and check price/availability for that room type.

You are correct that Poly guests were originally given the option to use the GF pools during the volcano pool closure, but that option was apparently taken away, being replaced with a 1 day BB ticket. Now it seems CRO is telling guests that the GF pools are still an option, along with a water park ticket.....so it's anyone's guess just what the option is :confused3.
