Tinkerbellliz - We rent a cabana every other day for our stay every year. We absolutely love it. The refrig is packed and they are more then happy to refill what you like. There is also a delicious fruit tray and great attendant. If you get Holly she'e the best. The attendant can also get you lunch even using your meal plan.

If you have any questions please let me know!!

Were the cabana attendants allowed to accept tips while you were there?
I would like to tip, but don't want to cause any trouble - & there have been differing reports here.
Thank you.

Thank you so much for the info, Especially about accepting the dining plan! I will reserving one first thing tomorrow. I noticed on the map the beach pool bar is just across the pool. Beer + a fridge + pool AND lunch delivered clinched the decision for the DH!

I'm hoping to reserve it between our Wild Africa Trek day and the Keys to the Kingdom day. My feet will thank me!

Again, thanks so much.

Liz

I'm curious since you have recent experience with the cabana. We are thinking for getting one for a down / laundry day. Can you give more details? I'm ready to reserve it but DH needs more convincing! ;)

Hope everyone has had a Grand Monday! (Is that possible without being at WDW?

Liz

Liz, I concur with WishesQueen - a cabana day is wonderful! The fruit is fresh and delicious, the cold drinks are welcome and the ambience is fun yet private. And all with a good view of all the action. The lunch menu is available with some tasty offerings. Their salads are fresh and crisp and the sandwiches - at least the citrus-marinated chicken sandwich that I devoured - delicious. There is something about lunch in a cabana that heightens the experience!

As to Monday, I find it is quite possible to have a good Monday and even a fine Monday, but a Grand Monday only comes during a stay at the GF! :goodvibes

Hello fellow Grand fans. I'm starting to get a twitch because we are heading to WDW for a long weekend before school starts but didn't book the GF. Staying at BC for SAB and access to Epcot and DHS but I'm starting to second guess my decision. Made the choice because we are going to be at VGF for Christmas this year and thought we should change it up a bit. But still.....

Hi GF friends :wave2:. I've been lurking for months now as our first VGF stay approaches, just 12 days away!

Plans for one of our days just changed -- a day we were supposed to go to AK was switched to MK. Now I'm thinking of throwing the park morning overboard in favor of a pool/resort day at GF. We're two adults, are there any thing any of you do during a GF resort day that have made things special? I thought about a cabana, but I think we'd rather sleep in and grab breakfast at GFC that morning rather than set the alarm to be out at the cabana by a certain time.

Thanks for all the wonderful information you share on this thread! :goodvibes

I'm not sure how early is TOO early for you, but I can share the start time for the cabana is 10 am. Half day is 4 hours and full day is 9 hours ending at 7 pm. There is also an afternoon/evening half day but I'm unsure what the hours are for it. Price for our visit time frame is $149 half day and $219 full day plus taxes.

DH is also considering watercraft rentals now too!

Hope this helps somewhat.

MickeyNut - We're thinking July 21st!! Everyone wants to book soon and hoping for a discount. Disney Visa for July usually comes out around Spring Break...so fingers crossed!!

Blue - How's the wedding plans??? Whens the big day (for both)??? Regarding snacks...I have to have a coca cola concoction at Hollywood studios, I have to have a Grey Goose Slush in EPCOT (they discontinued my Red Stag in the US:sad2:)

MissKeri - I guess thats whey there are soooo many different hotel options at Disney. They only I can say is I hate to leave and plan returning before I get home.

Red Stag is no longer???:crazy2:
Really? Are you sure???

Can't RPC guests still access Sugar Loaf's lounge, but not vice versa? That's the way it was last time we were there in 2011, though we never really took advantage as we spent most time at the beach pool.

SL never had access to RPC, but RPC guests used to be able to access SL. However, from reports I've read, that supposedly has changed since MBs were implemented and now RPC guests only have access to RPC. Hopefully someone who has been recently (and has tried to access SL being an RPC guest) will be able to give the correct information.

Hope everyone has had a Grand Monday! (Is that possible without being at WDW?)

Liz

Thanks, hope you are having a Grand Monday as well :goodvibes.

Your trip will be here before you know it :yay:. I love just relaxing by the pool and taking in the beautiful atmosphere of the resort :cloud9:.

DH is also considering watercraft rentals now too!

Not sure which watercraft your DH is considering, but we rented the mouse boats one year from the Poly and we had a blast :).

Morning everyone!!!

So sad to hear about Robin Williams, my kids know him as Peter and Genie. I love the great movie ride when they show that seen "Good Morning Vietnam"!!! I will cry every time now!! (who I am I kidding, I cried for that movie in the end all the time)!!

Were the cabana attendants allowed to accept tips while you were there?
I would like to tip, but don't want to cause any trouble - & there have been differing reports here.
Thank you.

Yes, all three times, 2 different attendants accepted our tips!! I also read that they no longer were allowed to before we left, but my DH said he had to find that out for himself...and thank goodness he did because they accepted and they deserved it!!

Thank you so much for the info, Especially about accepting the dining plan! I will reserving one first thing tomorrow. I noticed on the map the beach pool bar is just across the pool. Beer + a fridge + pool AND lunch delivered clinched the decision for the DH!

We all look forward to it...you will love it!!! One year I booked it every day, but that was too much!! Every other day is perfect for us!!!

We love renting the boats after breakfast sometimes...the kids like the little ones, my husband and I with friends take out the whaler I think its called...its a pontoon. We also ride the monorail and get off at the Contemporary and have lunch at Contempo, shop, game room. Then off to the Poly...shop, have a cocktail then off to the MK for the day.

Red Stag is no longer???:crazy2:
Really? Are you sure???

I couldn't find it and was told it was gone, didn't see anyone with it either. If anyone finds it PLEASE let me know!!!!!

KOOK - thanks for the post, you are always so knowledgeable!!:thumbsup2 Very good tips for making requests, I need to get that up on the first page, in the rooms section.

One question - did you have any conversation with the assignor about the old rumor that if you tamper with your reservation within that week after it drops to the resort, you will(might) knock off your requests? Just curious, we get the question often as to whether guests are "too late" to call.

Thanks again!

Thank you too!! :flower3:

You're welcome!:flower3:

:wave2: just checking in! Arrived in Ft Lauderdale Thurs night Friday saw mom, went to beach & did a grocery shop. Our suite has a full kitchen. Handy for breakfasts, & occas dinner. Opened my wallet to pay at grocery store, and no U.S. Visa :-0 no idea where I left it. Could be Seattle? Phoned to cancel and they are sending me new one.
Plenty of beach time, as hotel is hAlf a block away. Yesterday we maybe spent a wee bit to long at beach, lol. So taking a break today.
Tonight having family dinner at Cracker Barrel with brother & cousin.
Brother came down Saturday, so we've been visiting. He leaves tomorrow.
Saturday we head to Orlando.

Sounds like you are having a wonderful, beach-y vacation so far!:beach: Sorry to hear about the loss of your cc, but glad it is being taken care of so swiftly.

Hope your mother is doing well. Enjoy the time with your brother.

:grouphug:

I agree about the Grand being beautiful with great CMs and it not being stuffy at all ::yes::.

....

We may have thought so before we stayed there, I can't remember. I can see how people might get that impression, just from a short visit, or, more often, by going through on the monorail. It is quiet and serene, and that may give the feeling of "stuffy" due to a lack of a normal Disney resort vibe. But when you are staying there, you see families and couples, people of all sorts enjoying themselves and the resort.

I have observed people in the lobby or on the paths that obviously expect the atmosphere to be more refined, but I pay no attention.:teeth: It's Disney!

....

Speaking of which ... Last time we were there the villas were under construction and the beach was said to be in jeopardy. Any recent beach pictures so I can compare and see what's left?

There are some beach photos posted in the "Recreation" post on the first page, taken by JoBird, I believe.:thumbsup2

 I know that twitch, I felt it last week when I nearly switched our upcoming YC stay to the GF. lol But my girls want SAB for our hot August days, so I shook it off and am glad we will be visiting the Epcot area this go 'round.

If you feel you just can't bear to be away from the Grand, why not switch? (unless it is for a greater discount, etc.) Believe me, we all understand! I have such a hard time keeping my resolve when we decide to book one of our other favorite resorts - I often end up with a split in those instances.

Hello, GF friend! You'll be at the Grand before you know it.:goodvibes

Our favorite things to do on resort day is simply enjoy being there. We like to have b'fast at GFC, grab a chair at the pool, have drinks, hang out. Maybe get a spa treatment or rent Sea Raycers and speed around SSL! Stroll the grounds, have afternoon tea at the Garden View Lounge; listen to the music in the lobby in the late afternoon/evening, sit in Mizner's and have a drink - if it is available, someone reported there are many more guests there now!;) Sit at the boat dock and watch EWP, then Wishes - or, Wishes at the marina, with a snack from Gasparilla's.

So much to do, we can't do it all in one day!

Can't RPC guests still access Sugar Loaf's lounge, but not vice versa? That's the way it was last time we were there in 2011, though we never really took advantage as we spent most time at the beach pool.

This has been my understanding as well, but we've never tested the rumor. We've never used SL lounge when we are in RPC anyway - I've always felt it puts an unnecessary burden on the supplies, as they likely don't account for extras from the Main Bldg. when calculating food service in SL. A few sodas aren't likely to make much difference, but the food is probably harder to account for.:scratchin

Not sure which watercraft your DH is considering, but we rented the mouse boats one year from the Poly and we had a blast :).

I know, those little boats are so much fun!!:boat:

 I know, I'm heartbroken, too. I was so tearful last night when I heard. I kept getting mental images of all the wonderful movies, and we loved his early stand up, too. Mork, we'll miss you!!

Yes, all three times, 2 different attendants accepted our tips!! I also read that they no longer were allowed to before we left, but my DH said he had to find that out for himself...and thank goodness he did because they accepted and they deserved it!!

Well, isn't that something?! Someone recently reported their attendant refused the tip and said they weren't allowed! Goes to show, things change, sometimes daily!;)

Having a cabana every other day sounds like a dream vacation.:cloud9:

Thanks for the reminder, we love doing the monorail tour, too, and especially to check out the store at the CR. We often take the boat to the Poly, so we can wander the grounds as we head to our dining reservation/shopping!

A cocktail before heading to the MK?! I like your style!:teeth:

BlueSkies - I almost forgot your snacks question - here goes!;)

MK - anything at Main St. Bakery; ice cream at the Plaza ice cream parlor; love the waffle sandwiches at Sleepy Hollow, and the funnel cakes; Dole Whip, of course, and I just heard about the chocolate-covered pineapple spears - yum!; citrus swirl; Casey's corn dog nuggets & fries with cheese sauce (not a fan of the newer, non-beef hot dogs)

AK - jalapeno pretzel (all time fave!); tea slushes from, I think, Royal Anandapur

Epcot - Oh, my! jalapeno pretzel in America; kaki gori in Japan; tea slush & pork buns in China; anything at Tangierine Cafe, Morocco; pretty much anything in the Boulangerie in France, but especially the fruit & cheese plate, with bread (not sure if this is still available, I read they have expanded and changed offerings); Grey Goose/Gran Marnier slushes in France; gelato, pastries, wine in Italy; margaritas, guacamole and churros in Mexico; pastries at Sunshine Seasons! Love to grab a beer(DD) and cheese plate in the R&C pub.

DHS - Starring rolls desserts; pretzel dog or Italian sausage at Min & Bill's; PB&J milkshake at Tune In Lounge (all time fave!); baked goods & coffee at Writer's Stop

k&a&c thanks for your good wishes!

Hi,

I have a quick question about the waterpark in front of the villas, if you are staying in a regular room at the GF can you still use that waterpark or is it only for villas guest?

Thanks WishesQueen, for the info re: the cabana tipping. Some people were told the attendants were not allowed to accept them, as others have noted.
I was going to offer anyway, but now I feel better about doing so.:thumbsup2

Yes, you can use that area. It's open to all guests of the resort, not just residents of the villas.
Enjoy!

haha. Love it. I'm still thinking about it. Because it is only a 3 night stay, splitting won't work this time and I keep telling myself we are staying at VGF for a full 7 nights over Christmas. We have BC club level booked for this stay and the Grand is only a few $$ more for Sugarloaf so price isn't the problem. Kids love the Grand most of all and would be onboard with the change but I really think we will spend more of our time at Epcot and DHS on this trip so from a practical standpoint the BC makes more sense. Must. Resist. Grand...............

LOL! I know that mantra so well.;) Gotcha about the 3 nights, no split there - or, at least, it wouldn't be much fun.

To throw even more fairy dust at you, the BC CL will likely be involved in refurb in a month, won't they? Or are they expected to be finished by then? ETA: oops, I got your sig wrong, looks like you'll be at BC CL during the Presidential Suite lounge, no?

We do love being near Epcot & DHS, though, so I get ya...but the Grand is a tough lady to resist.:teeth:

WOW! Chocolate Covered Pineapple Spears and Citrus Swirl?
Where in Magic Kingdom are these incredible snacks????:confused3
Thanks! YUME!:thumbsup2

We have stayed club at the BC before and not really loved it because it's so small. I'm looking forward to seeing the Presidential Suite! ;)

That's really unfortunate. It was very convenient to run into Sugar Loaf for a soda while poolside, versus going all the way back to the main building. With the price of the main building being so much greater than Sugar Loaf, and anywhere else on property, it seems odd that they're eliminating so many of the RPC only perks/extra services.
