"The days are long at Belmont.
Speed they never learn.
And it's many a day since Man o' War
Has looped the upper turn."

I'm going Saturday, anyone else excited?:thumbsup2

Dh and dd14 are going. Dh has been going for years and he started taking dd when she was about 8. It isn't my thing so they go and enjoy some good father-daughter time.

The only bummer is they'll miss part of the Stanley cup finals game 2 with our beloved rangers.

Weather looks good, I think he can go the distance but you never know, that's why they have to run the race. Fingers crossed!

Enjoy your day at the track and take photos Zephyrhawk

My son's girlfriend's mom is getting married, and I RSVPed that I would be there for the meal, but late, since I have to watch the Belmont first! I don't even want to take a chance on DVRing it, for fear that I will hear a spoiler before I get home to watch it....

I was 11 1/2 when Affirmed won, and had a huge crush on Steve Cauthen. When touring the Derby Museum this month, I saw the display that includes the record he cut and the "fan book" that was written about him. I know I had both of those items, long lost many moves ago....

SO LUCKY!! I wish I could go. :(

A triple crown winner would certainly be nice.

And just think, in reference to the little poem... it's been almost 100 years since Man O' War.

WOW.

I was at the Kentucky Horse Park last month, got to see the Man O' War Memorial. Also got to see Funnycide. Beautiful horse, he should have been a Triple Crown winner.

Thanks for the heads-up. I didn't realize it is tomorrow. We're not going, but I am concerned that it will impact our drive to my great-aunt's surprise party. She lives in Elmont and that is very close to Belmont!

I must be the only person that thinks not having a Triple Crown winner is good for horse racing. It is the only thing that brings excitement to the sport.

The mile and a half belmont is BruTAL and that's why there hasnt been a triple crown winner in over three decades. But dreams do come true. There will be lots of men with teary eyes if that happens.

That's like saying you think the World Series or Superbowl aren't exciting because we just had one last year. :confused3 or perhaps I'm misunderstanding you?

The sport is plenty exciting on its own, and the prospect of a possible TC winner will continue to be every year.

I read it as--a long streak will come to an end and since it is so rare, people will lose interest. Not having a winner, people will watch in hope there will be one.

I'm not sure there is another sports equivilant.

Were Seattle Slew's win 1977 or Affirmed's win in 1978 (only a year later) less exciting because Secretariat had just won in 1973? Or did the sport wane in excitement after Secretariat won, when there had been NO winner prior to him since the late 40's before SS and Affirmed rode to victory shortly after?

Pretty sure everything will be just fine no matter what happens today.

I feel the same way about DVRing it, so we'll go to mass on Sun.

The triple crown events will probably be fine no matter what. But the rest of horse racing could use a serious boost. We lost Hollywood Park this year and several tracks are just holding on.

Sad an disappointed.......Myself I think to be in the running of the Belemont the horses should have to run in the Kentucky Derby the Preakness an the Belemont.

Kudos to California Chrome. The $10,000 horse made good. Just fell a bit short today. Kudos also to Ride on Curlin and General A-Rod, the only other two horses to race in all three triple crown races. And a big raspberry to all those that deliberately rested their horses that were perfectly good to go. That's a gutless thing to do.
