2014 Belmont Stakes

The three races are separate and distinct races. The triple crown is a bonus prize for winning all three races. In years where there is no single winner of the Derby and Preakness, there is no triple crown. The Belmont becomes moot. And nobody give a hoot about the belmont at that point. So changing the rules does nothing.

That's how I always understood it to be: three separate, distinct races. Not a series of 3 races with the same horses.

I like the analogy of the tennis Grand Slam. If a player can win the 4 top tennis events against any and all challengers, they've won the Grand Slam. Same with a horse winning these 3 particular races against all competition. Then they're a Triple Crown winner.

leave the triple crown as is.

Now if the guy has the money and backing then he should organize a triple jewel where all the horses run in all three races.

What a great interview and a wonderful man. Steve Coburn gets a big :thumbsup2 from me.
Oh please. He only apologized because he kept getting backlash for his comments. There was no need to go on National television to apologize to his wife. Don't they live together? And if he was caught "in the heat/emotions of the moment" why did he on Sunday say he doesn't regret anything?

Wasn't he the one who complained about his trip to the Kentucky Derby about Churchill Downs "not being hospitable enough" (or something along those lines)? Why do I get the idea he's used to getting his own way and will whine and complain when he doesn't? Sorry, not impressed.

To be fair, you have no idea what he said to his wife privately. Maybe he apologized to her privately before doing so publicly...and maybe he beats her everyday and twice on Sunday. You don't know.

Uh he's not the first and not the only one to complain about Churchill Downs. None other than Ronnie Turcotte has a similar beef with them as do several owners.

I think that's a stretch since he didn't cheat, but he was certainly a spoiler.

HAHA Rose Ruiz. 2:31:56 fastest female time ever in the Boston Marathon!!! Oh wait. She didn't actually run the whole way. I found that whole situation rather hilarious myself.
Tonalist gets a pass from me because he had a lung infection at the race his owners planned to get him qualified for the Derby. What I really didn't like was that several perfectly good and healthy horses had owners that just decided to skip the Preakness.

The grand Slam in Tennis and Golf occur over Several months. There is ample rest between them, so much so that the players play other tournaments in the mean time. Nobody skips one just to rest up for the next one. Moreover, if they are healthy, the highly ranked players compete in all of them these days. Rarely do you see a prime time player just blow one off. So no. Nobody complains because there is no reason to complain. Not even nearly the same situation.
