I see a lot of potential Teena hugs on the horizon!!!

I was going through some Disney things my dad passed on to me a while ago. My parents went to WDW on their honeymoon in 1971 and even visited the preview center before the resort opened. Thought I'd share with you guys some of the things he left me. Just had the map and brochure framed!image.jpgimage.jpgimage.jpg

Thanks for sharing. That's so cool to see!!!!

Well I went and done it.... I checked in online for my Flower Wars stay in May. I am arriving early and I'm hoping just to get in my room and plop my slop at Pop Century so I can get going. The only thing that's keeping me sane about this whole deal is knowing that I can always request a room change if necessary. I'm hoping to avoid that enormous check in line at the resort. That's 45 minutes of my life I'd like to get back!

These were awesome to see! Thanks for sharing that! Just think, one day we will be showing our ancestors our magic bands. The kids will laugh at us because they don't have a video screen and there are no holograms popping out of them.

Your collection is really cool!!!

I especially like the ticket books, and the prices!

::yes::

Here's a parking ticket from 1980.

When we first went to Disney we had those ticket books. I think there were eight E rides at MK but the book only had seven E ride tickets, which meant we had to skip one. And there were always too many A rides tickets which never got used up. I'm not sure when they eliminated the ride tickets, but it sure was handy when they did.

Our first-ever Disney trip was to Disneyland in 1986 - at that time they didn't do the ticket books, so it was somewhere before then that they were discontinued. Our kids were 10 and 8, and we were there right after Christmas.

Our biggest shock was the weather - home was below zero temps, but California was warm and sunny, and there were PALM TREES!!! - and it seemed really strange when we saw Christmas decorations up on people's homes when it felt like June for us! Fell in LOVE with Disney then, and two years later found us in Florida, at the Beach Club for our first Florida trip! LOVED Beach Club, LOVED WDW. But it was one of those "all inclusive" trips (similar now to the Deluxe Dining Plan) and not know anything about how to "DO" Disney, we spent most of our time in restaurants!

Now we know better, and this fall, when my hubby and I are at the BCV for our first Villa stay (not DVC members - just staying in a Studio because Garden view rooms were not to be found!) we are again doing Deluxe, but are planning lots of Signature dinners, as we are celebrating our 40th Anniversary! Plus, with the Food & Wine Event...I don't think there will be a lack of eating options!

Holy cow! 50 cents to park!!! I think I saw a couple old parking tickets in the stuff my dad gave me. I'll look again. I really like the old Disney stuff, especially the ticket books, and yeah, there were some unused A ticket ride coupons in there! They were good for the Main Street vehicles and Cinderella's Carousel...hmm...no wonder they were left over! Maybe I can use them as a FP+ on the Jungle Cruise or the Carousel of Progress!

NM - holographic magic bands with video screens?!?! LOL!! You're probably right...

Anyways...thought I'd share because it sounds like some of you have seen WDW change a lot through the years. My first time was in 1977 when I was three and my next visit wasn't until 2004! In 56 days we'll be back for our third visit...can't wait to experience the Beach Club. Many thanks to everyone on here for all they share...thought I'd give a little bit back :)

My favorite part about this time period was when you would take the tram back to your parking space after a loooong day at the parks. If you look on the map of the lot you will see the names of the areas. The CM's would get on the P.A. system and say "Dopey people to the left, Sleepy people to the right" as we approached that first area. My husband and I still laugh about that years later and even to this day we utter it to each other as we navigate through a crowd. After a day at Disney we were both sleepy AND dopey!

Seven weeks from this moment I will be sitting at SAB, hopefully with a Sunken Treasure in my hand and sand between my toes! So looking forward to our first stay at YC and cannot thank you all enough for all the wonderful information! This thread is truly one of the nicest on the boards! :thanks:

It seems like they need to put the sunken treasure back on the official menu since it seems to have so many fans. :drinking1

Well, I've been doing a little creative Disney Math. I know that you all will understand and agree that this is possibly the most satisfying type of math that one can do. Anyway, here goes:

We are going to be staying at the YC in June for 7 nights. We have 7 day park hoppers. I began to think about the fact that we have a week off in October for our fall break. I am a teacher, and my break lines up with my children's break. Well, I began to look into the cost of upgrading our tickets to annual passes, and it looked like it might be a good plan. THEN, I sent an email to that travel agency that shall not be named, and I got a great quote for 5 nights at the Beach Club with quick service dining. Well, what could I do??? I accepted the offer and we now have an October trip planned. If I plan this just right, I may even be able to squeeze in another trip before the pass expires. I love Disney math.

Dee, could you add me to the BOG list for Beach Club from Oct. 5-10, 2015? Thank you so much. Our trip to the YC in June will be our 4th at that resort, but the BC trip will be a first for us.

So, the agency that shall not be named - does not have to include tickets? This is useful information.

We booked our upcoming August stay at YC with the agency that shall not be named & did not buy tickets either (at first). The only reason we are able to finally stay at the YC is because of the great price from the agency! We ended up adding tickets from them to our reservation because their ticket prices were even cheaper than Undercover Tourist.

What memories! I have a copy of same Magic Kingdom map and the brochure. Wonder where in the world I put them? I'm going to have to do search around the house tomorrow. My 1st trip to WDW was in January 1972.

My quote without tickets for one adult and two children ages 16 and 11, quick service dining, and 5 nights in a standard view BC room was just under $2200. I didn't have to buy their tickets to qualify.

Add me to the list!

My husband and I are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary this summer. The traditional gift is china. So, I decided to book a surprise adult only trip to Disney to take him to China during F&W. :)

We will be staying at the YC October 15th - 19th (which also happens to be his birthday weekend). This will be our first trip without kids and our first stay at a deluxe resort. I'm beyond excited.

The hardest part I'm having right now is planning this trip without a kid. I'm so used to doing everything that he wants to do - and working around his schedule - that I'm sort of at a loss.

Can not wait!

Kim
