2013 Marching Band Thread

so what's the differences in the different competition styles? BOA. etc? we compete in something that starts with an "M" I believe. and only 2 competitions
We don't have a state competition.

Do you compete msba? It is mainly Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky.

our last competition was this past saturday, and not only did the band receive all superior ratings, but our drum major got best in class (2nd year in a row) and so did our majorettes!

so sad that football/marching season is almost over. :( 3 more games, and 2 of them are away games.

Good luck to all the Texas bands competing at UIL Region Marching Band Contest this weekend!

We're 4A, so it's a state year for us. Directors are confident for us advancing to Area, but State is probably a long shot. It's hard to compete with some of the powerhouses in Central Texas, but we're going to give it our best.

We have USBands States this weekend on Sunday. National Anthem starts at 7:55 a.m. and the awards are at 3:30. Thankfully we're playing on Sunday and not Saturday. Their schedule starts at 9 a.m. and awards are given at 11:50 p.m.:scared1:

We are competing against 13 other bands. I'd be thrilled if we came in top 5. I think our band is good enough but there have been so many changes to our color guard that I just don't know if they'll be able to hold up their end. On a happy color guard note though, with the new coach my daughter has now learned how to throw a quad on rifle. :cheer2::thumbsup2:cool1::cheer2: Not steadily, but she's almost there. About 1/2 the time. I'm just hoping she can pull it off for States. Kind of caused a riff between her and her BFF who taught her how to spin and introduced her to guard. He'll be throwing a triple while she throws the quad. :guilty: I'm thrilled for her but I feel a little bad for him. Just hoping everyone is able to throw their rifles effectively and precisely at the competition.

Those Leander schools are tough to beat, but you have the right attitude! Good luck and hopefully mother nature will cooperate for all of you. All I can say is I am glad that BOA San Antonio is indoors because I don't think I could stand another soggy contest.

YES, they are!! We lived in Cedar Park for several years before moving to help take care of a family member 6 years ago. DD would have gone to Cedar Park HS had we not moved.

Like I said, our kids will try their best. They'll be happy with just moving on to Area. They haven't been able to compete for State for three years because we moved from 5A and 4A.

Best of luck at BOA!!

Friday night Football!!!! Good luck to all our bands at their games and competitions this weekend.

We are in St Louis for Super Regional Contest! DS texted that Broken Arrow won! Congratulations to them! Oklahoma was well represented in Finals! Our band did not make it past Preliminaries. We march about 100 with about 14 Color Guard. Our band did get to play The National Anthem right before finals!

We watched several bands Saturday, at Preliminaries. So impressive! We spent a couple of hours helping our band with uniforms. My friend , who is uniform Queen, got sick! So DH, DS13, and I stepped in and took over. We have lights on our shakos, that make it a pain! Oh, well, finished until Wednesday!

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Go Band!

Well, we made Division 1 (all 1's) at Region, so we're off to Area competition on Saturday. :woohoo:

Based on what I can tell, there should be at least 4 bands that will move from Area to State. We may actually have a shot. I'm surprised about how excited I am!

It's almost the weekend! How many more games/competitions do you have?

The band will be on our local FOX tv channel tomorrow morning, call time is 4:30 am :faint: Then an away game Friday night. Saturday is a competition about 45 mins away and Sunday is the very underwhelming Halloween parade. Three whole blocks of parade and it's supposed to be cold.

Next weekend is a home game/senior night and our state competition and then the season is over! pixiedust:

We have two more games. Tomorrow night is an away game. Next Saturday afternoon is the big rival game. We have our city Halloween parade this Sunday. We will continue to practice every morning and every Sunday for the Rose Parade :)

We has a contest Wednesday. Got all 1s! This is the only contest of this type that we do. All of the others are Preliminaries/Finals.

Home football game tonight! Senior night for Band. Nothing Saturday or Sunday!!! We need a break. Thurs and Friday nights will be rehearsals, then State, then one away game and we are finished. Will miss it!

On our way to Atlanta this morning. Kids arrived yesterday morning and had a fun day taking it easy. Have never been to the Atlanta Super Regional before and looking forward to seeing bands that we haven't seen before. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

We had States last weekend at Rutgers University. What an opportunity for the kids to march in a real stadium. Our competitions are usually at high school football stadiums. And we got to see the Rutgers University marching band (all 200 of them!) do their show. It was a great day although very long. Up at 3:30 a.m., at school by 4:45, performed about 9:30 and awards were at 3:30 p.m. Did I mention I had 5 girls sleep over the night before. We all went to bed around 1 a.m. and the alarm went off at 3:30. :sad2: They were great though.

Last year we didn't go to States because of Hurricane Sandy. Anyway, we came in 6th of 14 which isn't bad at all. We've only been to one other competition this year prior to States and the show is still being worked out. I was glad the director gave them all a pep speech afterwards. While they were thrilled they came in 6th (personally I was hoping for top 5), he reminded them that most of the other bands had perfected their routines back in August or September. We are still an evolving show.

They had practice last night and they're still changing the show. We have a show this weekend, one next weekend and then Nationals in Allentown, PA in November 9. I'm sure it is going to be freezing!!!! Which stinks for the kids. Don't know how they play or toss those flags/rifles when their hands are numb. Last year we had a kid whose hands actually turned blue at a football game. Went out and bought my daughter hand warmers. Hope they'll let her hang onto them as long as possible before they go on.

And now that marching band season is almost over, they're beginning to mull over ideas for indoor season! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: I love indoor because it's warmer. :rotfl:
