It's the new home for all of us MB parents for the 2013 season.

I have a senior trombone and a sophomore trumpet. The new show has been picked...I Believe and it has a trombone solo. DS is very excited as it will be his.

That's awesome!! Congrats to your DS!

My alto sax DS will be a Senior this year. :faint: Not sure how that happened so quickly! I don't think the show has been chosen for next season yet -- or maybe it has, but they don't usually tell the kids until summer band camp.

Can't wait for marching season to start! First football game is August 30th!!

DD just finished her freshman season in the front ensemble. She thinks she has a good shot at Marimba 2 next year.

Excited about new uniforms! They came in late November, just a few weeks after marching season ended. It will be a state year for us (Texas 4A), so the kids will be working hard. Haven't hear anything about the new show, but can't wait to see/hear it.

:wave2: Glad to join you for another year!

My senior is done :) /  . Bittersweet!!

I have an incoming freshman who made the cut on percussion! Phew! He was the only drummer from his middle school to make it! So far, he thinks he is playing snare drum. That is what they gave him the music for. Usually freshmen have to pay their dues on cymbals or bass drum--- so he isn't taking anything for granted just yet. ;)

We have an intense schedule of practices, football games, parades- and then the granddaddy of them all- The Tournament of Roses Parade on New Years Day! :cool1:

Joining in I have Junior Tuba player. Show has been picked and the kids r excited about the show.

Sophomore baritone - but she might have to play trombone this year.

The show is picked. I know the theme is cards. Two of the songs are "Hit the road, Jack" and "Bicycle Race" by Queen. I forget the other two songs but I'm sure they have something to do with King and Ace.

I have a freshman trumpet. I'm kind of bummed though, their band is small and they don't do the shows like I did growing up. They will do a few formations but that is pretty much it. But I will say that they make up for their small numbers with their sound.

DD15 is a freshman clarinet player. this fall she'll be a sophomore, and it will be her 4th year in the band. her first year (7th grade), she was a band manager (aka equipment grunt). she LOVES marching band!

Hooray! I can join this group! I have an 8th grader who wants to join the marching band next year. I know nothing about marching band!! Well, I do know that practices start mid-June and to expect our fall weekends to be filled with competitions.

He plays the alto sax.

Aahh...1 month off for us since winter indoor percussion and now starting marching season again. DS will be a junior and plays the snare. We won't know our show until band camp in July.

We will have a junior alto sax and section leader and a freshman baritone player. They had "rookie" camp on Saturday, know their show theme and have one practice a week in June with 2 weeks of all day camp in July.

I'm in :) DD14 will be a sophomore clarinet, this will be her first year. Our high school is 10-12. Show was announced today - themes from Hitchcock movies.

Thanks for the new thread Pembo!

I will have only one in Marching Band this year. DS15 will be a sophomore and plays tuba. DS18 will graduate Friday! The Tuba section will miss him!

We wont know anything about our show until the beginning of August! Hitchcock sounds fun!

OOOH I'm loving reading the themes. Can't wait to see the guard costumes that match those themes. :goodvibes

Funny Hitchcock - most of today's kids don't have a clue about Hitchcock.

My dd will be a sophmore in guard

Our theme is Criminal. Guard will wear black & white - stripes on arm (think jail). Possibly a trenchcoat, sunglasses & fedora hat. One of the songs is Smooth Criminal.

What's weird is our winterguard had the same theme - used the same song (diff version though):worried: Kinda surprised they chose the same thing - won't be the same uniform though

I'm so jealous! Not a State year for us (5A), so there's no real "finale" at the end of the season, no end game. I wish the timing had been better -- it would have been awesome for DS's last year to be a State year. But he's gotten to do that twice, and my own memories of those two trips are just priceless.

Hope y'all make it to State this year!! :cheer2:

Kids are definitely excited. I really felt bad for this year's seniors as they only had one chance at state, their freshman year. We moved from 4A to 5A, back to 4A over the last few years, and it caused them to miss out on state competitions. I think the directors are going really push hard this year.

Just a quick brag...DD is heading for state solo/ensemble this weekend for her Marimba solo. Very proud of her and the rest of the percussion section. They had 26 percussionists qualify for the state competition! :woohoo:

Count me in as a guard mom. I believe this year's theme for marching band is Wicked.

Tell me what a state year is? We don't have that here. :confused3

Schools in Texas are classified 1A to 5A, depending on number of students. UIL competition is based on that classification and there are state champions in each division.

Because of the large number of schools and limited resources, a school can only qualify for the state UIL competition every other year, depending on your classification. 4A and 5A rotate, as well as 2A and 3A.

This past year 3A and 5A competed in state competition, and this coming year 2A and 4A will be able to compete. I believe 1A is able to compete every year due to the small number of schools.

Those that know more, feel free to correct me.

We are in the same boat. My daughter's last state year will be her junior year, but we will probably do Grand Nats for her senior year so she will get some kind of finale.

Congrats on advancing to TSSEC. My daughter's ensemble will be there too. They are all freshmen so I don't know how well they will do, but it is awesome just to get to go. Our band is hosting so I will be there for the whole thing.

Our show music has been picked, but marching spots won't be determined until they start up in August. I just went back to watch the video of last year's show and can't wait to see what they will come up with for this year. It is hard to keep focused on next year because we are off to London to march in the New Year's Day parade in 2015. We will be selling everything but the kitchen sink between now and then. If anyone has a great fundraising idea let me know!
