2013 Destash- this is the year!

Another few hours spent in master today. Through all dressers drawers, 3 more bags to donate. Amazing that we have clothes left to wear, but we do! Have some off season totes in basement too that we haven't switched in at least 2 years. Need to get through those as well. Still need to do books in master & 1 small piece of closet & master should be presentable. I think I am going to start a journal to keep track of how far I've come because it is getting discouraging to still see everything that isn't done.

1.5 hours cleaning my walk in bedroom closet. Need to do more......

Thank you all for the feedback on the bed. I was thinking a twin would be just fine for him, even as he continues to grow. I think DH think he looks cramped right now, but that's just because of all the stuffed animals and blankies he has thrown all over his bed. But I guess at the end of the day, I'm not the one who would have to disassemble and reassemble the bunk bed, so DS may still end up with a new bed... We'll see.

My woes with Craigslist continue. I had a person flake on Sunday and then a different one flake yesterday. It's getting really irritating. I have someone else supposed to come this evening to look at something else, so hopefully he comes. But I'm not holding my breath.

I didn't do any of the small de-cluttering projects I wanted to do in my son's room yesterday, so I am a bit disappointed that I accomplished so little this weekend, but it is what it is. I have a list of small projects (cleaning my make up drawer, cleaning under the kitchen sink) I want to do this week, so as long as I finish those up, I'll be happy.

Happy De-Cluttering Everyone!!!

Just got back from DC. Inauguration was amazing! My dad looked so cool in the parade. But now we are back to the real world and I need to purge purge purge.

Today is the kitchen. I need to deep clean it and I plan to work through all cabinets and drawers.

Hello everyone! Everyone is making such headway! I love reading these updates for inspiration.

Well I was not home last weekend, so nothing got done. BUT I bought all new bras, so I did straighten out my unmentionable drawer!

While we were gone, we successfully hunted up a coat rack! This means coats will no longer be allowed to drape over the kitchen counter.

Hopefully this weekend I will return to the kitchen to continue my project there.

It's been rough couple of weeks with a bunch of icky sick around here. And then we are celebrating DD and DS birthdays.

but this weekend I did get to quick sort the filing crates. It went from 3 to only a half of one---amazing how much room paper takes up. My poor shredder. it needs a vacation because it definitely has indigestion. I still have to complete filing the paperwork because I was just weeding through whether we need this or not. Most of the files were intermingled and I just didn't want to start that labeling.

Husband is getting really good about taking the get rid of piles to drop off...Drove by the thrift store and saw a few of the items we had donated displayed right out front. They took all their profits and buy food for the food bank. So, here's hoping they make the money!

Joining this thread! Came up with a carefully laid out plan to clean out every room in the house, including the attic, basement and shed, as well as redo 3 rooms AND totally renovate the kitchen! I'm excited!

Started today... downstairs bath totally cleaned top to bottom and cabinets emptied and reorganized. Next up is my room (hold me)

I haven't posted here for the past week because I've been busy destashing.

I only have 3 pantry shelves left to go through and then the kitchen will be officially destashed for this year - I can definitely say I've reduced the clutter by 1/3 which was my goal for this year.

I started the what was supposed to be my dining room but turned into the Piano/game room too. The sideboard has been totally destashed - I've got half the stuff gone from there and it's so neat and tidy.

I went through my collection of items on the bookcase in that room too and decided to get rid of the mini wade figurines that I had inherited by default a few years ago. I didn't really want them but felt like I had to take them. I haven't decided if I want to try to ebay them or just donate them yet. I need to do some research on it tonight.

I really want to dig into the shot glass collection next and only keep what will fit in the little shot glass display case. My husband is going to be gone next week so it'll be the perfect time to do it. Nobody needs 45 shot glasses.
He won't notice if they are gone when he gets back but if he sees me sorting through them, he won't want me to get rid of any. LOL

So the kitchen will be done fully by this weekend and the Piano/game room should be done the weekend after that. So I'm right on target.

I did our bedroom last Sunday. I full bag of garbage, two bags for donation and now I can see the top of my dresser! Yay!

I did too. It's amazing how much bigger & better it looks already & I am not done. It was worth it so far. I still have books under the bed to deal with.

Last night was one of the "harder" decluttering tasks for me. I decluttered my hope chest. I have it filled with the outfit DS came home from the hospital in, his first Christmas outfit, each grades memory books, etc. I also had halloween costumes in there from his first 6 halloweens (I'm really not sure why, I should have never kept them all) . I knew that all but the first one needed to go as the chest was filled and I still hadn't put the 2nd grade memory book away yet because it was too filled. But it was still hard. I have professional pictures of him in every costume (his b-day is a few days before halloween, so we have always done birthday and halloween pics) and I have pics of him wearing the costume at home, so I don't know why it was so hard to let go. But I did eventually get the out and now I have a ton more space in the chest, as those costumes were taking up about half the chest.

On Tuesday evening I went through DH and my bathroom. I threw out all the beauty products that I have purchased and didn't like, knowing I won't use them again. I also went through my makeup drawer and threw out old makeup or stuff I didn't like. I still have more to get through in there, but it was a decent start. And the person who was supposed to show up from Craigslist actually showed up that night. They offered about 60 percent of what I had the item listed for and weren't willing to negotiate. I thought the item was pretty fairly priced, so normally I would have said forget it, but after all the flakes I've been dealing with, I sold it for that price. At least it is one less thing I have to deal with.

:rotfl: My shredder has also been suffering from indegestion! It has been a good week for paper shredding here!

this has been a great week! My garage is done (2 cars now parked in it) the shed is finished! Finally got all the gas cans and hoses etc in their..and I have 8 boxes plus a bookshelf for Goodwill...the weather is taking a turn here so I am going nowhere tomorrow..guess what?! I am going to finally go through my homeschool stuff! My kids are 22, 18 (in nursing school) and 17 and a new graduate, I think it is time!

And now :cheer2: I finally went through all my Wilton cake pans and only kept 4! Went through the candy molds at the same time , only kept 6...I am doing a happy dance about those! It took a year to work up the courage to do it....!

Have a great weekend everyone and for those in the path of this upcoming storm--stay warm by decluttering--moving around will keep the blood flowing!

I tried & was mildly successful in 2011 while DH was deployed.
He came home early 2012. Along with a ton of equipment & stuff.

Its a year later & some of that junk is still hanging around. He is very difficult to get to help with projects like this. He knows we need to make a clean up as we have lived in this condo for 17 yrs & its too full at this point. We have lots of hobbies also & they include lots of supplies or equipment. Thankfully, we do not collect things just for the sake of collecting.

He says he will help this year, but I really don't see this happening. He doesn't get much time, and I just don't see him getting rid of stuff.

Hoping to get at least something done!
Office/craft room was completely emptied & new cabinets in 2011 by me while he was gone.

2012 the kitchen was emptied when we installed pull-outs into our cabinets.

So those rooms are ok. Office needs a really good paper purge, and that is what I am working on. His deployment generated a TON of new paper & information.

Cleaned out the fridge and the pantry last night.
Got rid of a lot of old stuff.

Also bagged up DH's clothes, finally. So that bin is empty and back in the loft to be used to sort more stuff.

My destashing efforts are going to be slow the next few months, DH's travel schedule has ramped back up to the point that he will be pretty much gone until the end of April.

Well, our area is completely iced in. Really wondering if DH will even be able to get home from work. However, being iced in means that I can really see everything that needs to get done! Got another bag of "good" stuff listed on the FB site and have about three more bags ready to list-just got to get the pics taken and get it on there.

My to do list for the rest of the day includes our master bath and our walk-in closet. Anything else that gets done will be a bonus. I may even send the kids up the grandparents for a couple of hours to be able to get rid of some of their toy excess. We got it all cleaned up and put away in their rooms but they still have too much to know what they want to play with.

Got my closet done!! I lost some weight last year (about 15-20lbs) and went down a few sizes. Packed up all my 'big girl' clothes. I should have been elated, but seeing that half empty closet and wondering how I fit in those clothes was surprisingly sad! Now I just have to keep the weight off or I'll be left naked :rotfl:

I think you did the right thing by taking less. I have learned my lesson about holding out: everyone wants something for nothing & I have now decided to just go with what I get & enjoy the "item is gone" feeling. I would just be happy it is gone & now you won't have to wait for another Craigslist no-show! Happy de-cluttering.

On my list for today, I went through the guest bathroom cupboard, cleaned out 18 towels, which was the tip of the iceberg. Really, why did I have so many anyways? Going to look for a place to donate, maybe pet shelter?
I also cleared 31 stuffed animals out of kids rooms while DS was at friend's house & didn't see what was going. Hoping to keep going tomorrow- grandma & grandpa are visiting, so maybe they will watch kids while I have the urge to purge!!

I've been organzing and got rid of a grocery size bag of misc stuff. I have several items posted on craigs list but sales are slow. By the end of summer whatever i still have I will give away or donate.

Tonight I will be giving my den and kitchen a good cleaning so that will be more trash out of the house
