If I want to book a 2013 cruise on points for May or June 2013 and I have an October use year, what points can I use since I would be booking 24 months in advance? Can I use 2011 points or must I borrow 2013 points for a 2013 cruise? Thanks!

You will be using 2012 points, unless you need to bank 2011 to 2012 or borrow from 2013 into 2012. It is not based on when you book but when you travel.

I am so confused by all of this. We are new DVC members and have not even used our points yet. Now let me see if I get this.

Lets say I want to cruise in November 2013 and my UY is March. Even if I book right now, the points would be from 2013 and if I had to borrow any, they would be from 2014?

I think with a use year of March, you get your 2012 points on March 1, 2012 which are good until Feb 28, 2013. Is that right? So, I think you would bank them for a November 2013 trip. Can someone confirm?

For a Nov 2013 cruise you could use 2013 points, banked 2012 points, and borrowed 2014 points.

When you call member services the cast members that book the cruises are very helpful. They will let you no what use yr points you can use for the cruise you plan on booking

Does it matter when you book the cruise (as far as the points you're going to use)? We're thinking about doing a 2013 cruise and using points for one person.

The points are already into your account. Just remember points for cruises are not necessarily the best value. Also you will need to pay the $95 fee and total for everyone you are paying cash for. It also has a different cancellation policy.

Cruise on point are limited and if you wait to long it may not be an option.

I have a question about a cash booking as a DVC member. Would I call MS, CRO or the TA of my choice? If I use CRO or a TA, what is the deposit, when is the total due and how do I make sure the cruise staff is aware that we are DVC?

I know. We've used points before for a cruise.

I think you need to watch the points inventory for cruises. The longer you wait the less points inventory there will be. They only block out so many rooms for points and that's it.

That is not necessarily my understanding. My undersanding is that you pay with points in the UY the trip falls UNLESS that UY is 2 UYs ahead as it would be in this example though only by 2 weeks. In that case I'm told that you have the choice of paying with the current UY or the next. I KNOW this is the way it was a few years ago. I haven't heard or asked anything official in a few years on this subject and it's possible it could have changed but I've heard nothing to indicate it has.

Here is my scenario and what MS told me.

My use year is April and I have 79 April 2011 points (normally expiring on March 31, 2012) banked so they will now expire on March 31, 2013.

For the cruise I booked for May 2013, I was told I cannot use those b/c they expire before the cruise, so I can use my April 2012 points which I will bank to my 2013 use year.

I can also use the points that I get on April 1, 2013 and borrow from the points I will get on April 1, 2014 if I need to.

That is different than my understanding and than the way it was previously. As I noted, it could have changed. However, given your situation, I'd call back and speak to a supervisor to be sure.

You would need to use some points to book through MS and the full amount of the cash portion inclucing the $95 dollars would be due when booked. If you are only using cash you can use your TA or CRO and they will tell you the deposit needed and when it is due.

If I look under my 2014UY points the following is noted. The amount is 0 since I have not booked a cruise.

Vacation Points Used is the total number of Vacation Points you have borrowed from this Use Year for a Disney Cruise Line® vacation that will take place in the previous Use Year.

I take that to mean I could use 2014UY points for a 2013UY cruise. You cannot book more than 2 years out but I think that is not UY but calendar year such as our 11 month window.

Oh and this is under the contract detail of my activity statement.

Do most people get the cruise insurance from Disney? Is it worth it? How much is it if you book using points? Thanks!

DO NOT BUY DISNEY'S INSURANCE!!! We had lugguage stolen on our Med cruise. We had Disney's insurance, who thru DCL, is Access America. We just went thru a month long ordeal trying to get reimbursement. Let me tell you anything of value you might have stolen and want to claime IS EXCLUDED!! If they do cover expensive items you have to have a receipt...for everything!!! If you purchase any insurance, only purchase airline insurance which covers your travel delays, lodging, etc. DCL's insurance DOES NOT cover any airline expenses unless you book the air travel thru them.
