2013 dates

$10,000 for a tiny little balcony cabin on mostly sea days on the rough Pacific Ocean on a 13 year old ship? :rotfl2:

You have got to be kidding me. Highly recommend looking at the Golden or Sapphire Princess, where you can get a suite and all the benefits for 1/2 the price with lots and lots of Hawaii-native activities like lei making, ukeleily lessons, Hawaiian cooking classes, etc.

I got a (14-day Hawaiian in October on Wonder) quote for 2 adults, 1 child on first day booking was available for $9,284 ocean view verandah cat 5C. Based upon previous Disney cruises for shorter periods this is not out-of-line. Having never cruised to Hawaii or taken a 14-day cruise I needed a point of reference. Found almost the exact same itinerary from Princess for $2,495.

DCL is still offering onboard credit of $50 for every $1,000 so I would have gotten $450 in onboard credit for spending $9,284.

That's $2,495 per person right?

People are posting veranda room on DCL for $7k for a cat. 7.

You will be paying lot extra for child care, drinks and food.

Not sure who you meant to say was offering the OBC, but that doesn't sound like something that would be coming directly from DCL but from a TA.

Other cruiselines do charge less for most cruises. You have to pick the cruise ship that you feel you will be happy sailing on and that offers amenities that you feel are of value to you.

Thank you for the rare insight, not many 14 year olds have cruised the Panama canal. Just going through all those locks sounds so boring.

We were on the Jan '11 PC cruise, and all 4 of my kids, including DD1 had a FABULOUS time. They can't wait to sail with DCL again. They've also been on a couple of 10/11 night cruises with another line on Sth Pacific cruises, and were bored witless on sea days. Vastly different cruise companies.

Cheers,
Sally :)

I went back to correct my mistake and saw you all caught it. It should have read "exact same itinerary from Princess for $7,485."

I agree but with the money we have saved by doing another company instead of Disney is sometimes in the thousand's, enough to buy an IPAD or another device to lounge around the pool with and relax. Disney is nice, but just because other cruiselines don't offer the same amount of activities doesn't mean they aren't a viable option when you can save a truck load of money.

The $50 OBC per $1,000 is a deal Mouse Fan Travel has been running for a while now. I sometimes forget about all the extras we get from our great TA's.

Actually, because we have to add on 6 international return airfares from Australia, the difference can be in excess of $10,000 (although we don't fork out that much JUST to cruise). For us, it is completely justifiable - am more than happy to pay a premium for quality we're yet to see in Australia (for family cruising).

But, I digress......

Back to waiting patiently for 2013 dates....

Sally :)

But did they say were they thought it was going.

No sorry just that DCL wouldn't be doing the Med for at least 4 years! There have been lots of rumours from the last transatlantic though so still non the wiser

Anyone?

ok i have 2 scenarios i'd like to know what to do about:

one
if the cruises are released early in october (baring in mind that we're sailing at the end of october) is it best to book directly with dcl or if i booked with a ta would i still be able to modify my reservation by reshopping online or can this only be done with direct dcl bookings?

two
if the cruises are released later after we cruise, if we book onboard and through a ta how do we go about changing the reservation? Do we just email our ta and get it changed that way? Also what info do we need to give when we book our dummy reservation re a ta? Do we just say dreams unlimited or do we need to give a persons name and if so who?

Thanks in advance

I believe that any time you book through a travel agent, you need to go through your travel agent whenever you want to do any changes. The only time you can deal with DCL directly regarding your reservation is if you book with them (online or phone).

If you book direct with DCL you can manage your booking yourself, if you book via a TA the TA will have to modify the booking.

If you book prior to cruising and then want to reshop onboard for lower price/OBC - you can do one of 2 things - either

(i) the onboard agent can reallocate the existing booking for you - this seems to be easier if you booked with DCL yourself - sometimes they say they can't do that, so then

(ii) you book again at the reshopped price/obc.

When you get home cancel the existing booking. You can usually choose to have the deposit refunded or allocated to your new booking,

If you want to keep the room from your original booking you then ask DCL or your TA (depending on who you booked via) to allocate the room you just cancelled to your new onboard booking.

Getting an existing booking that is being handled by a TA transferred is simply a matter of emailing/phoning your TA and telling them what cruise you want it moved to and the details of who is travelling/dining etc as if it is a new booking. They then do the necessary with DCL.

If you book a dummy ressie onboard - you can say the name of a specific TA or just the company. I've done both and it's all worked out fine.

Thanks in advance

This is all so helpful for first timers! :)

If on release day I can't reach my TA and I choose to the cruise myself online can I switch that booking to a TA to take advantage of any OBC offer my TA might have? If I have her book it, would I just go online and cancel my reservation and get a refund?

Also, how do OBC work? I keep hearing about these huge numbers but on the DCL site it doesn't seem like much because it's says it's $25. Is that just $25 for the whole trip? If so, that doesn't seem like much of an incentive.

$25 is DCL's standard OBC for booking online directly through their site and 1 per stateroom for the entire cruise. Not much but something. It is one reason I imagine some folks uses a TA, they tend to give better OBC. The larger OBC numbers you see are either a. for rebooking while on a DCL cruise or b. from a TA for booking through them. I wouldn't call any of them huge but they are nice.

OK can I just check something else too - if I book through DCL then reshop onboard can I then specify a TA?

When will the 2013 cruise destinations/dates/rates be released? I don't want to miss booking early. Thanks.

Is the rumor its going to be sometime next week? I am so hoping for the med cruise.. hope to hop on that one asap!!
