2013 BOOK CHALLENGE! Are you in?

I think this is my book #12 of 50? Breathe by Sarah Crossan. YA dystopian about a world where oxygen is at a premium. It was ok.

Wow, life has certainly had me tied up recently! LOL!! On a reading note, I am hooked on Beverly Lewis and seem to be able to sail right through her books! So good and so addicting!

Goal: 52 books this year.

#17 down and done.

French Women for All Seasons by Mireille Guiliano, the sequel to French Women Don't Get Fat, is, to me, more of the same -- everything in moderation, stop and smell the roses, and here are some recipes your family is sure to love (not!). I took it out of the library mostly because I love her name; Mireille is DD#2's middle name. Stupid reason, huh?

Well, I'm on to #18 - The Brutal Telling by Louise Penny. Back to the genre I love, murder mysteries. We're going to the library today; I think I'll try to find an interesting biography or autobiography.

Probably too late for your library run, but this past summer I read Forward From Here: Leaving Middle Age and Other Unexpected Adventures by Reeve Lindbergh (yes, daughter of). I enjoyed immensely!

Goal = 40

Book #10 - The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey http://www.amazon.com/The-Snow-Chil...qid=1362444470&sr=8-1&keywords=the+snow+child
Set in 1920s Alaska, beautifully written story that is based on a Russian fairy tale about a little girl who seemingly comes to life from a "snowgirl"

Next up:
Divergent (YA book that my DD12 really wants me to read) http://www.amazon.com/Divergent-Boo...id=1362444563&sr=1-2-spell&keywords=dviergent
The Round House http://www.amazon.com/Round-House-L...F8&qid=1362444614&sr=1-1&keywords=round+house

Book #18 Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman

Review: I got this book on sale and so I decided to try it. It was a good book but not great. The author uses great description but her characters fall short on being interesting and the book lacks fluidity. The plot could have been really great but before things got too interesting, things were solved easily with a silk little bow.

The main character, CeeCee has a pretty hard life, her mother has died and her father is inattentive to his child. Her great-aunt takes CeeCee in and the little girl gains great friends, security and the love that had been denied to her.

CeeCee is twelve years old but the narration is too mature and her personality is a little bland and too "perfect". Some of the characters are cliched and predictable. The various plots are either undeveloped or left alone.

Would I suggest it? Nope, I do love a fluffy read but this one was too much. It was too sweet and just as bland as white bread.

Goal 15. (At this rate, I'm proud to say I will probably increase my goal!)

#5. Into the Darkest Corner by Elizabeth Haynes

Wow.. This was a very intense book that really made you think twice about "how well do I really know the person I'm starting a relationship with"!! The short chapters keep you engaged and wanting to know the rest of the story!!

#6. Going to attempt to read The Shack again.... I have heard this book is a good read but I every time I start it, I cannot continue...

Putting Into the Darkest Corner on my list. I read The Shack last year and it just didn't do it for me, lol. I have The Crossroads (by the same author) on my to read next shelf.

Oh, and does anyone here use Goodreads?? I'd definitely recommend it for any fellow bookworms. It's a great place to keep track of reading lists, authors and reviews. Basically like a social network..but for readers.

Many of us are on Goodreads. There is a group called DISreaders that many have added.

I wasn't aware of that! I'll have to check it out, thank you!

Haven't updated for a while.

Goal 100

#31 The Distant Hours by Kate Morton-very enjoyable.
#32 The Twelve Tribes of Hattie- didn't love the storyline but I did like the writing. It's the writer's first novel and I would read her again
#33 Defending Jacob-good courtroom drama
#34 WWW11 Diary Volume 1 by Ruby Side Thompson-recommended on this thread.

#8 completed. The Memory Thief

In Emily Colin’s exquisite debut novel, perfect for the fans of Kristin Hannah, one man’s vow to his wife sparks a remarkable journey that tests the pull of memory and reaffirms the bonds of love.

Before Madeleine Kimble’s mountaineer husband, Aidan, climbs Mount McKinley’s south face, he makes her a solemn vow: I will come back to you. But late one night, Maddie gets the devastating news that Aidan has died in an avalanche, leaving her to care for their son—a small boy with a very big secret. The call comes from J.C., Aidan’s best friend and fellow climber, whose grief is seasoned with survivor’s guilt . . . and something more. J.C. has loved Maddie for years, but he never wanted his chance with her to come at so terrible a cost.

Across the country, Nicholas Sullivan wakes from a motorcycle crash with his memory wiped clean. Yet his dreams are haunted by visions of a mysterious woman and a young boy, neither of whom he has ever met. Convinced that these strangers hold the answers he seeks, Nicholas leaves everything behind to find them. What he discovers will require a leap of faith that will change all of their lives forever.

Okay so this one I liked a little better than the last few books I've picked up. It was written well, help my interest, and I wanted to know what happened. It wasn't an overly heavy book but I wouldn't call it fluff either. I'd give it a 3.5/5.

I finished Book 25 Delirium by Lauren Oliver - I love a good YA lovestory gave it 4 stars and I am anxiously awaiting reading the 2nd book (I'm on the library wait list).

I finished Book 26 The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (I started this as book 25 but it is quite heavy - being set in Nazi Germany; so I took a break and read Delirium in the middle). This is a wonderful book, I definitely enjoy light reading, which this is not but it was heartfelt, touching and thought-provoking about the power of individual relationships.

I loved Divergent and immediately had to read Insurgent right after! Hope you enjoy it.

I think I'll try to find that one, although I left middle age many years ago (I'm 66 y.o.!) Thanks for the recommendation.

Oooh, I'm the one who recommended this book, many posts ago! I do hope you enjoyed it and that you'll read Vols. 2-4! But if it wasn't your cup of tea, no worries; it's not for everyone.

I didn't enjoy the second one as much as the first... but it was still good. And it has a crazy cliffhanger that will make you scream for the third one.
