2013 BOOK CHALLENGE! Are you in?

Read 22 out of 80 books so far. Reading the following books:

The 10th Kingdom by Kathryn Wesley. It is the book version of the miniseries of the same name that was on NBC back in 2000. Have read this book before but it was in 2005 so it has been awhile since I have read it.

Dannii Minogue: My Story by Dannii Minogue. She is Kylie Minogue's younger sister. She has been on the UK X Factor. And is also a singer like her sister Kylie. Got this book for my birthday back in January because no local library of mine has her book.

A promise is forever
A castle in the mist, a yearning heart, and a lonely train ride all teach Christy that-A Promise Is Forever
Off on a European mission trip with her friends, Christy Miller discovers foreign adventure is her cup of tea. She can just see herself tromping through the streets of London, traveling across different countries, and talking to new people, like her new friend Sierra Jensen. But when tensions among the group set in, Christy finds memories of Todd, her past boyfriend, are constantly swimming in her mind no matter how hard she tries to delete him from her mind!

To make matters worse, she is assigned to go to Spain by herself while all her friends travel elsewhere. Will Christy face her fears of the future? And can she truly trust that God has great things planned for her even when all seems lost?

OVER ONE MILLION SOLD IN-The Christy Miller Series

Get acquainted with Christy's friend Sierra by reading all twelve books in the Sierra Jensen Series, also by Robin Jones Gunn.

Book #26 Brides of Prairie Gold by Maggie Osborne

Review: I honestly liked this book. The book was about a group of women who travel through the frontier to Oregon in hopes of being married. These mail-order brides go through difficulties such as disease, death and bandits yet prevail. Of course there are two love stories one involving Cody the wagon master and Perrin, a woman with a past. Another involves Cody's friend Webb and an adventurous Mem Grant. It would suggest it for a quick read.

Finished number 6: Divergent by Veronica Roth.

Love this book, so good. Luckily, I bought it and the sequel so I have no wait in reading the next one, which would have been very frustrating with the end that it gives.

Started number 7: Insurgent by Veronica Roth.

Book 22 of 100 - Endurance by Ann Aguire

This was a different story, and felt rather unfinished to me. It is about two young adults, Thimble and Stone, who live in an Enclave under ground. When there is a rebellion it is the end of the Enclave and they must find a way to escape and survive the Freaks who wander the tunnels.

I never fully got into this book, and then it was over. I go not know if there are more stories that follow, and am not sure I would want to read them if there are. Just seemed an odd story to me.

Just beware that you will feel the same way at the end of Insurgent, and the next one is not out until the fall. I still can't wait to read it, and I read both last Sept/Oct.

Just finished #12 last night:

Rush Home Road by Lori Lansens

What a beautiful, poignant story! This book had been on my "to read" book list for a year. Why the heck did I want so long??? :confused3

Book has a moving plotline and memorable characters. Five year old Sharla, not wanted by her own mother, gets sent to live with an old neighbor woman, Addie Shadd. The two form a strong bond and impact each other's lives. I've been reading a lot of books lately that switch back & forth from present to past, and this is another one of those. Not really a fan of that format, but it doesn't detract from the storyline at all; in fact, towards the end, it enhances it greatly as that line between the two timelines begins to blur.

Next up: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix! I am determined to finish this series, lol.

This sounded interesting so I went to look it up. Out of print and not on Kindle. :(

Finished book #7 Silver Linings Playbook last night. I liked it and it made me even more interested in seeing the movie.

Book #8...suggestions?

Finished books 11 and 12

# 11- Private Berlin by James Patterson and Mark Sullivan - This is part of the Private series - I really liked this one. You don't have to read the entire series to understand this book.

# 12 - Legend by Marie Lu - This is a YA book that several of my MS students have been reading so I thought I would keep up with what's new! It started off a little slow, but it picked up and was a pretty good book in the end. If you liked Hunger Games...it's in that genre...

11/30 - Ghosts of Rosewood Asylum by Stephen Prosapio

From Amazon:
Zach Kalusky, host of Sci-D TV's Xavier Paranormal Investigators, is ecstatic when he's given the opportunity to explore the most haunted site in Chicago for a Halloween Special: Rosewood Asylum, a place long made off-limits by the local government, plagued by decades of mysterious fires and unexplained events. It's Zach's dream investigation- but there's a catch: the network forces Xavier Paranormal Investigators to partner with the more dramatic-but less ethical-Demon Hunters. Now, Zach must fight for both his show's integrity and his team's loyalty while trying to protect his own secret: that he, himself, is possessed.

3/5 stars. I thought it was too long and it had some unexpected, controversial subject matter that I didn't enjoy. If you like paranormal stuff, you could give it a try, but I recommend getting it while it's on a free download promo.

Keep forgetting to come in and post the current tally sheet!

Right now I'm waiting on Cloud Atlas from the library along with the movie once the dvd comes out. For now I'm in the middle of book 25 "Thunderball" by Ian Fleming. Its actually a lot of fun so far in spite of only getting into Bond movies via Daniel Craig.

If anyone with Kindle is interested, I am willing to give a couple kindle versions of Cemetery Girl or Three Twigs for the Campfire away on monday.
Just let me me know.

#22 Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

Liked this one much better than Gone Girl altho I put off reading it due to the initial subject matter that I thought would not appeal to me in a book. But then with the 'other' story line it worked out that I enjoyed the book. Maybe give it 3 & 1/2 stars.....

Yes, I agree. I liked this better than Gone Girl too.

Good to hear! That's on my list but I think I want to save it for this summer. I'm not a fan of that format either but will read them if the story is worth it. Looking forward to this!

Thanks for that recommendation on Legend. I will look for that for all of us to read. All of my kids have read the HG series. DS ran through them and could not put them down! I still need to read it but broke tradition and saw the movie first.

If anyone with Kindle is interested, I am willing to give a couple kindle versions of Cemetery Girl or Three Twigs for the Campfire away on monday.
Just let me me know.

I'd love to read either one - are you the author for Campfire?

Thanks! I put that on my wish list at the library. There's a long hold list on it and I LOVED Gone Girl.

Thanks so much for this thread OP and thanks to all posting on it. I adore reading and it has been so much fun to have a way to share and find new books to read. I had gotten away from it the last few years due to school and being busy so it's been wonderful to pick it back up again!

StephMK, I'm not sure how old your kids are, but Divergent and Insurgent are supposed to be in the same genre as HG as well. They are a bit more YA though. My 8th grade son just finished Divergent and LOVED it, and it's hard to get him away from the xbox! I still have not read either... (he took Divergent while I read Legend)

I know the Librarian was stopping students who were younger than 8th grade from buying Divergent/Insurgent at our book fair without their parents because they are supposed to be for a "older" audience.
