2012? No Problem...but when?

I don't know Cheryl...I think I have a few months on you... just so you know...I'm coming up on our 35th anniversary...and I have a 34 year old. Of course, being only 18....

Yesterday, Miss B had another trip to the beauty shop. My lovely daughter is beautiful, but she is a tom boy! BIG TIME! She thinks 'fixing' her hair is just pulling it back in a pony tail and going. A comb or brush rarely see her hair! She does love to wash it...but nothing else. As a result of the neglect her hair has seen recently, it has all broken off terribly. Dull, brittle, broken hair with each hair a different length.

I am going to attempt to post a picture of the way it now looks. My daughter does NOT smile for pictures! However, last night, she could not stop smiling. I think she really, really likes it.

I'm posting it from Facebook...so maybe it will work...and maybe not!

Ms. B looks great :)

I can safely say you are older than me, but just by a few years. I'm not too far behind. I had my first child at 37 years old and when you were that age your first was already a high school graduate!

Ummmm....not really...by the time I was 37 my oldest was not even driving yet! LOL! And my youngest's bio mom was only 8... Me thinks I am a LOT older than you! (of course, by the time my Mom was 37, she was already a grand mother 4 times!)

LOL!

OK...so I should not panic...much! LOL! I just like to make my plans once...and then stress about all the small details until we leave. It seems like the major plans have changed so much so far this trip that I feel like something terrible is happening! Well, maybe not.

Even hubby is getting his own kind of paranoia with this trip. We had planned on getting $3000 worth of Gift Cards from Sams (you know the ones with the 10 dollar gift cards for the Disney Store?) so I could have a Disney Store shopping trip before we go... now he is afraid something might happen and we wouldn't go and he would be out the money... I'm pretty sure if that happens, we just pay off the trip and then if we cancel prior to the 45 day mark we can get the money back...

This is what I was told by Disney. Since I paid for my entire trip using Disney GCs, I had to keep those GCs, because if I cancelled my trip, the entire balance would go back on to each card. If I wanted my actual $$ back, I would then have to return them to Target. I was seriously considering cancelling our trip yesterday, and using the $$ to pay for Rufus, and then I realized that I paid for it all with GCs, and I am outside the window to return them to Target.

Hand modeling...hmmm... nope I don't think I could pull that off...I have very old lady hands!

Thanks...the Steamboat Willie was one of my favorites as well. I've been asked many times to recreate it...but it is one of those that took so long to make (I used to think I was pretty good at math...but trying to draft that pattern in two sizes...and then my DD deciding to develop a few 'curves' and hers had to be redone!) made it a very long, long, long experience!

Yup...never a dull moment around here!

Rats... there was a couple more I was going to grab, but I guess not!

I have to say...my older kids, who know the bio mom, all think it is hilarious that he thinks Dad would have ANYTHING to do with her!

Updates...

Those that are my friends on facebook may have seen me post about a flood in my studio on Sunday morning. We have known about a leak coming from the main floor kids bathroom for almost a year. We just haven't been able to pinpoint the cause.

I thought it was from the kids getting water on the floor and that was causing the water to seep down to the studio. The kids both have claimed innocence. It did not happen every time they took a shower or bath, it was very sporadic and very difficult to find the culprit...I mean cause.

After several months of dry...I thought it was safe to start using the huge table under the 'wet spot' again. Sunday morning proved me wrong!

We discovered that the plumber thought it wasn't necessary to hook the over flow drain up to an actual pipe! I guess it was just suppose to magically disappear?

Years ago, I worked at the code office in my local town. (we are technically in the county and outside the city limits) I know according to the city code, this would not have passed inspection. I knew the builders hated that we were so picky about it, but never in a million years would I have thought it was not a standard code!

Now I know better!

This is the second house we have bought that has had this issue! But when we bought this one it was new...and, even though I did not speak to the plumber, we spoke with the builder about construction methods and materials. (he lied on several accounts...go figure!)

Unfortunately, it means I can only sew when the light is good! My main light fixture is still wet! During the day, I have lots and lots of nice light coming in the 4 ginormous windows. But, if it is cloudy or rainy....or night...I can't sew! Husband said he was going to wait until after the first of the month to have a contractor look at it to see how much it is going to take to get it fixed. Since we have to replace the ceiling in the studio...it should make it easier to fix...but it is going to snowball! We will have to rip up the floors in the bathroom...and I really want a nice tile on the floor...We will have to rip out my daughter's closet in order to get to part of the plumbing....and I want to redo her closet...we will have to take out the light fixture in the studio and I want a better one...:cutie:I can easily see this costing the same as a COUPLE of Disney trips! (Like...if we are going to put new tile in the kids bath...I want the same tile in my bath. It would be cheaper to have them both done at once...and if we are doing the tile...we might as well go ahead and do the new tile shower and new tub....you see where this is going.

All that means...I am seriously behind on my sewing! (imagine that!)

My friend has just let me know they are having a problem with her husband getting time off for the Disney trip. The economic problems are being blamed by his company. First they had to renig on his bonus (that they were planning to use for the trip) and now they are saying there is no money for vacation time. They simply cannot afford to loose a week of pay...

All in all...it is starting out to be a really crappy week...but...for some reason I am feeling pretty optimistic. I mean I AM going to Disney in a little over 6 months...and I get to make my ADRs in just 26 days!

Nini

Awww Nini... I am so very sorry about this stupid pipe, I did see you posted about it on FB, and I thought I replied. I know all about the snowball effect - I have the same problem a lot. I hope you are able to get everything fixed and it's reasonable.

And I am so sorry about your friend - her DH's job/bonus/vacation. Hopefully something comes together and it works out. (((Hugs)))

We always count down the weeks until Disney. Since we generally leave on a Friday morning, Friday has become pizza and a Disney movie night. Last week's movie was Dumbo. (I honestly had not seen that movie ...EVER!)

Yesterday afternoon, after watching Dumbo for the gazillionth time since Friday, Mr D asked if I was making him a Dumbo shirt...no, I wasn't planning on it.... He then reminded me that the ride would be open again. (I didn't realize he even knew it had been CLOSED!)

Now I am trying to decide what movie we will have for tomorrow night...and I guess I need to be prepared for the shirt questions with this.

Any suggestions? We don't usually buy a new movie each week, but we do usually purchase a new one once a month...and this is the week we would normally purchase one (last week was a splurge!)

I wish I could give you movie ideas... We just purchased the new Hugo movie - and even though it isn't Disney - I have heard rave reviews on it - so we are planning to hunker down this weekend and watch it.

I would also like to take the time to watch Monsters Inc. That is another of my favs, I don't think we are going to have the time though.

How awesome that Mr. D knew that Dumbo was closed and open while you are there - I think he deserves a shirt just for that. :lovestruc

Well last week I watched Toy story 3 for the first time and I have since pulled out The princess and the Frog, secretariat and the Jungle Book which I haven't seen in 20 years.

Your DD looks beautiful with her new haircut, she has a gorgeous smile.

So sorry to hear about your studio being flooded. How frustrating that it was a careless oversight.

As for Disney movies I like TS3 too. I thought I read that you were going to Tony's so maybe you could get Lady and the Tramp if you haven't seen it in a while. We ate at Japan in Epcot on our last trip and my DD quoted the entire Cars2 scene when Mater eats the wasabi and we laughed about it for days. I know some people didn't love that movie but I thought it was pretty funny. Sounds like a fun night.

Mr D has watched Monster, Inc so many times...he recites the dialogue all the time! In fact I think I could probably recite some of it from just listening to him!

Today, while we were out...I asked him again about the shirt... I had shown him the only design I had seen...and he decided that looked too girly... so no Dumbo shirt for him this trip!

My kids did not like Toy Story 3...strange, because I cried all the way through it! Jungle Book and Princess and the Frog are both more that Mr D has memorized....(are you beginning to see my problem here?) He also is not yet at a state where he will sit and watch a live action movie...although he is getting better!

Thanks...I'd like to take credit, but the smile is all her own! The funny thing is, she will NOT smile when she gets her picture taken. Ever since about 4 years old she has decided she hates her smile, so no way are we getting a smile out of her on record! That night she couldn't stop smiling. It was so nice to see her so happy!

Our movie last month was Lady and the Tramp...the kids were disappointed that the restaurant scene was so short! LOL! Both kids loved Cars 2...but I haven't seen it yet. That might be a winner for tomorrow night.

The only movie Mr D asked for was a new Winnie the Pooh...but I couldn't find it in Blue Ray...

---------------

Well, I was afraid this was going to happen. Princess Noni has a terrible time regulating her temperature. Since she has a limited amount of liquid that she can take via mouth, she has to rely on her two tubes to hydrate her. She suffers terribly in the heat. I knew that September in Disney was hot. I knew it might be a problem, but her mom thought we could pull it off. She went in today to get clearance to travel ( I know it is still 28 weeks away, but it can take several months to get the clearance for her) Her team of 4 doctors all said no. Well, actually one said maybe.

Since they won't clear her for travel, it basically means that if something happens, the family is on their own. Her insurance will not cover any bills from the trip. Technically, she can't transport her meds over state lines (true, no one would know, but if something happens...well you get the drift!)

The family is devastated...especially Princess Noni. The only time she will be cleared to go is from November to February. So...back to square one!

Add to that the fact that Disney has released the early fall Free Dining (for Disney Visa card holders today and general public expected on Monday) I am back to trying to decide what we are going to do!

Tired of Drama! Tired of me not being able to make up my mind. Tired of my own indecision (oh wait...that is the same thing! LOL)

Anyway, we are still going to Disney...but we still don't know exactly when.

Nini.

Sorry to hear about the pipes leaking.:sad2: I missed that on FB

And sorry to hear you still aren't sure of the dates. It must be a little frustrating since you are a planner like all of us. :scared:

:goodvibes What a beautiful smile!

Your wet studio sounds like a problem we encountered in RI. There is an overflow pan in our attic that collects moisture (i.e. water) from the ac system. Problem was the pan filled and overflowed because whoever built the house didn't bother to build a drain for it. I paid $200 to have it looked it and they told me it would evaporate. About a week later it happened again -- nothing evaporated. DH fixed it by hooking a pipe up to the drainage pan and feeding it to another pipe. I fixed the water stains on the ceiling of our bedroom and hallway. The ac people likely bought booze with their $200 :rotfl2:

Sorry about Princess Noni not being able to travel in Sept. It must be so hard for families with sick children to have to plan around things like that.

Thanks... I am sooooo over this whole date issue! LOL! My daughter in law said she would bribe me with another grand child if I chose to go when they go!:idea::idea: LOL!

Thanks for the comment on my daughter's smile...she DOES have a beautiful smile...just we don't get to see it much around here these days. The JOYS of living with a tween!

Having worked in the code office in our small town I can tell you...according to OUR code, the overflow pan is for when the DRAIN system gets clogged and doesn't work! And it OVERFLOWS! Since the basic design of an air conditioner is to remove moisture and heat from the air (not actually cooling it) it is by nature going to produce moisture that has to be sent outside.

In our town, we had a lot of contractors that 'forgot' to hook up the drain system to the actual unit...However, in their defense (sort of) my son, who is a HVAC contractor...said when a new AC unit is installed, unless it is done by a small single person company; the person that installs the drain is not the same person that hooks it up to the system.

I hope things work out for your trip and Princess Noni.

Things will work out for our trip...not so sure about Princess Noni's trip. Her mom is looking at CAMPING in a camper for their trip!!! Sorry...I cannot imagine 6 people living in a camper for a week!

==========

We had a wild ride last night...well sort of. It was more of a late night than a wild night. Right up until the minute that the tornado warning was issued, we had only had a few sprinkles all day! I thought it was a joke when the text came on my phone that a tornado warning was issued for me! I was looking at the radar when it was issued and did not see a thing!

But.... when the news people started naming road names of where it was located...and MY road was named!!!!! Well, people that live here don't know the names of our roads around here. (we live in the country...sort of...and they have only had names for the past few years!) I knew it was close...so we went to the basement to ride it out.

This is normally a great idea, since we have two bedrooms in the basement and the living room portion used to have a sleeper sofa and a nice recliner. Unfortunately, one bedroom is now my husband's office and the other is a play room/toy room and the living room is now my studio!l

...anyway... once the warning was lifted, we went back upstairs and I put the kids back to bed...that was around 3 am. HOWEVER...we didn't get the storm that caused the warning...we got the storm that came AFTER the warning! LOL! I guess it was ore of a heavy rain than it was a storm...and it has just ended a few minutes ago. ( it is around 11:30am right now) I finally felt the threat was over at 4 and went to bed.

I was really hoping that some of the junk in the back yard would get blown away...no such luck! it looks exactly the same as it did yesterday...only wetter!

I guess I get to spend March cleaning up the yard if I want to open the pool up in April...yuck!

Anyway...Mr D woke up at 7...his normal time. So I was up and at 'em at 7 with about 3 hours of sleep....

With all my insomnia you would think I would be used to short sleep...not so much!

Hope everyone in the path of the storms yesterday and today are safe....

Nini

Finally caught up with your PTR. Love the comment about momsrus. That is just too funny. Also love your dd's hair cut. Sorry to hear about the leak, those suck. And sorry to hear about your constant drama and changes on the trip front. Planning with another family is never easy, but health issues can really make it tough. Hope you get it all figured out!

Nini - I am so glad you and the family are OK.

Oh great! So I paid these people $200 to do absolutely nothing? Well, I already knew that. All they did was tell me the water would evaporate (which it didn't). Dh redid the drain thing and since our tenants have had the a/c serviced and it has been aproblematic since so they obviously got someone to look at it that knew what they were doing.

Glad you made it through the storm OK. We spent some time in the basement but we didn't have any damage in our area.

Are you going to the Quilting and Sewing expo this year?
