are mugs now included in the 2012 dinning plan? Looking on disney website it says that they are.:confused3

According to the released brochures, all of the dining plans now include the resort mug.

but the reg plan doesn't get them until Jan 1, & you would have to have your first day then & not before right??

Yes. If you are checking in during 2011 you would not receive a mug on the regular plan.

Wish they would go ahead and include it now. Never made sense to me why the DDP is the only plan that doesn't include it. :confused3
It makes perfect sense to me, as does the 1 snack vs 2 for both the other plans (at least until 2012 when QSDP drops 1).

You won't like the answer, but it makes sense.

Basically, it's money. The DDP was the original, and most common plan that was sold, by not offering the extras with the common plan, those diners would either upgrade or purchase a mug on their own.

For 2012, it seems that the testing going on at AS Sports (I've made the mistake to completely "letterize" that one too many times ><) may have an effect. Plus with the large upswing in plan costs, it's easier for them to include the mug now.

I'll give a slightly different version.
When they split up the plans, they wanted to make the QSDP appear to be more of an "alternative" to the DDP, as opposed to a downgrade. So they gave it a couple of add-ons that weren't included with the DDP. To make it an appealing alternative plan, but also to justify a cost that was closer to the DDP.

I think for this next year, they have changed how they want to think of the QSDP. They want to sell "upgrades" to the DDP --
I'll bet that over the last several years, there were people who hesitated to upgrade because they didn't want to lose their snack and mug. I'll even bet there are people who paid to upgrade, and then complained as they didn't realize they would be losing the mug and snack.
So I think they now wanted it to be a clear-cut upgrade, meaning they both include the same basics. The sole difference now, is the conversion of a CS credit to a TS credit.
