2012 Marathon/2011 Princess Half Marathon Weekend Trip Report! 8/21 - 2013 TRAINING!

I'm hoping you'll let us know how you felt for the rest of the day after the race, and the next day:rolleyes1
I have found during various races that I have felt pretty good during and right after, but after a few hours not so good :sad2:
I'm still trying to figure out how to avoid the post-race crash and burn - if you have any insight, that would be great!

For sure. :thumbsup2 How I've felt after races has varied for me...after this one wasn't too bad. What helps me the most is to keep moving and to EAT, like, immediately after I'm done. It's a constant work in progress though.

Day 3: Sunday, January 8 - Marathon Aftermath

My final time was 6:20:09, a 14:30 pace. I’d finished the race at 12:09 PM and had been awake for almost 10 hours.

Looking at my Garmin made me a little sick…when mapping a course race directors measure the roads so that the shortest path taken = 26.2 miles. Clearly I had not taken the shortest path. :rolleyes1

After crossing the finish line, I continued on through the chute with one thing on my mind…give me my freaking Mickey medal! I turned the corner and there they were!!

You are mine! :yay:

After getting my official finisher picture, I grabbed a banana, a bottle of both water and Powerade, and ICE. Two glorious bags of ice. The pain I’d felt in my butt earlier was completely gone (and never came back), but my quads were on fire and even though my knees felt okay, I wanted to ice them just to be safe.

I made my way through bag check and was back in the staging area. I hobbled to the merchandise area hoping to buy the marathon sweatshirt I’d passed up at the expo, but the line was way too long. Pluto and Scrooge were still out meeting and greeting, which was disappointing. I was really hoping for a picture with Mickey and Minnie in their track suits.

By now I decided it was time to return to the resort and let the recovery begin. Of course, I’d walked all the way to one end of the staging area to look at the merch, and now the buses were at the other end. The walk seemed like it took eons to complete, but finally I made it to the bus. The CMs beckoned me forward to board, but all I could do was look at how steep the steps were and mumble “Sweet Jesus.” I had a heck of a time navigating those stairs…my quads were screaming at me. Good thing there were railings so that I could pull myself up.

The bus driver announced the order of the stops: Boardwalk, Swan, Dolphin, Yacht Club and Beach Club, and we were off. While riding I chatted with the girl across the aisle from me, a much more experienced marathoner than myself. She advised me to keep moving all day and eat whatever I wanted. Not a problem! :thumbsup2

The bus stopped at the Boardwalk and I hopped off. By far the worst I’d felt during the weekend of the Princess Half Marathon was in the moments immediately following the bus ride back to POR after the race, as my knees had tightened up during the ride. I wasn’t taking any chances this time; the walk from the Boardwalk to the Beach Club couldn’t be that bad.

I slowly made my way around the lake, hobbling the entire way, and realized that the race was still going on! I cheered on the runners as I made my way to the Beach Club lobby, and was surprised to see that the sweepers were following closely behind them. It’s funny, when preparing for a Disney race you always hear about getting swept (runners must maintain a 16 minute/mile pace, otherwise they’ll be picked up and transported to the finish line), but the sweepers themselves always seemed to me like some mystical beings that may or may not really exist. :confused3 But here they were, in the flesh, on their bicycles, wearing reflective orange vests. It was anti-climactic in a way to actually see them.

When I got back to my room (after stopping in the Beach Club Marketplace for some Chip and Dale pretzels, yummy yummy) I dropped my stuff on the ground and got more ice from the vending machine. At this point I was exhausted, sore, and hungry, so I’ll admit that despite having finished the marathon, I was feeling a little down in the dumps. It had been an overwhelming couple of days up until this point, and I was starting to feel sorry for myself again about being alone and sore. :sad2: That’s it, I thought. No more marathons for me.

I grabbed my phone and my mood lifted immediately – along with my text splits from the race I had a congratulatory text waiting from Will as well as some messages from other friends of mine! Technology is a beautiful thing.

Before I forget, here are some close-ups of the bling:

IMG_5451.JPG

I love that the ribbons on the Disney medals are so detailed. One side has the marathon logo, while the other has the 4 park icons along with the date of the race.

IMG_5453.JPG

After checking the phone, I took an ice bath for about as long as I could stand it (10-15 minutes) followed by a heavenly shower, and then headed off to LUNCH!

I met Craig for a post-race lunch at Beaches and Cream…mom had gone to Animal Kingdom.

IMG_5436.JPG

We had about a 30-45 minute wait for a table. At one point Craig decided to check with the podium to see how long we had left to wait, and another marathon finisher struck up a conversation with him. When Craig returned to the table, he had a funny look on his face. Here’s an idea of how the conversation went:

Dude: “Was this your first marathon?”
Craig: “Yes.”
Dude: “How long did it take you?”
Craig: “A little over 6 hours.” (his time was 6:10 or something)
Dude: “Wow…that’s a long walk.” Chuckle chuckle.
Craig: “…well, have a great day.” *Walks away*

 Ahem. Pardon my French, but...really, d-bag? First of all, I don’t get why you’d ask a complete stranger what their time is, especially for their first marathon. Most first-timers run just to finish. (Craig guessed that the guy wanted to be asked his time so that Craig could be OMGSOIMPRESSED. Nice try, jerk). Secondly, it’s always said how friendly and welcoming the running community is, and I really believe that’s true. It’s especially evident at Disney events, which draw such a diverse crowd of runners that are there to do their best and have fun. It’s such a positive environment. During the race I saw runners of all ages, shapes, abilities, and others with shirts declaring that they were cancer survivors, heart transplant recipients, blind, checking a marathon off of their bucket list for their 80th birthday, etc. But I guess there’s a jerk in every bunch, right? People like this guy just make runners look bad and attitudes like his unnecessarily make other runners insecure. And does our finish time really matter? We covered 26.2 miles (and then some, according to my Garmin :sad2:), we worked our a---- off during training and the race itself, and we did it without being swept. BOO! Oops, tangent! Sorry about that!

And please let me make this clear to anyone that has never run a race before and is thinking of doing so in the future - people like this guy are RARE. I've done 16 races and never once have I encountered someone so condescending and negative. 99.9% of other runners are encouraging and very positive...we just met the one that wasn't that day.

Anyhoo, we got seated at the bar-type area and quickly put in our orders: a double cheeseburger with grilled onions for Princess C and single bacon cheeseburger for me.

IMG_5237.JPG

To be honest, I don’t even remember how the thing tasted. I just inhaled it. :thumbsup2

By the time we got done with lunch it was about 3PM…naptime! And it was awesome.

Day 3: Sunday, January 8 - Dinner and the Magic Kingdom!

All too soon, Stitch woke me up at 4:30…time to get ready for dinner! I got myself cleaned up and rolled with The Stick for a bit (LOVE THAT THING ) before slowly making my way over to the Yacht Club. I took a couple of so-so pictures along the way.

IMG_5255.JPG

IMG_5256.JPG

We all piled into Craig’s car and made the quick journey to the Polynesian, driving under the MK entrance gates at about 6PM.

IMG_5257.JPG

I still wasn’t feeling picture taking, as evidenced by the fact that I don’t have any pictures from inside the Polynesian and have only one from dinner. For shame. So to make up for it I'm going to use pictures from my and Will's dinner at 'Ohana in June 2011 (hence the better lighting). Yay!

Upon entering the Polynesian and Mom and Craig were immediately impressed. Craig said we should stay here when we come back for the 2013 Goofy Challenge. (Wait…the Goofy Wha-?? ).

We checked in for our 6:25 ADR at ‘Ohana and noticed tons of Steelers fans in the Tambu Tambu lounge watching the Bronchos-Steelers game. This is another reason I don’t have many pictures from dinner. I love my mom and brother, but they would not shut up about that freaking game. For whatever reason my mom was somewhat obsessed with Tim Tebow at the time (don’t ask) so she kept sneaking over to the lounge to check the score, and Craig kept updating it on my phone. The dinner conversation revolved around this stupid game, not around the trip or what park to go to that night or the marathon we just ran, and I was praying the Bronchos would just lose already so I wouldn’t have to hear about football or Tebow anymore (nothing against Tebow, I was just really sick of hearing about him – and the Broncos won in overtime).

I was so, so mad. I will admit that part of it was overreaction on my part because I was still tired and hungry, wished Will was there too, and really did not care about that game whatsoever, but part of it was also me feeling like they did not appreciate the fact that I woke up on a Sunday at 6AM 6 months ago to get this reservation (which they knew) and that I was paying for dinner as a late Christmas present to both of them. At least the food was great. :thumbsup2

The welcome bread!

My second-favorite course...noodles and stir-fried veggies!

The meats:

IMG_3768.JPG

And my favorite course...dessert! (Will and I had been celebrating an anniversary, hence the bonus cupcake!)

IMG_3769.JPG

I think (and Will agrees) that I just need to accept the fact that our vacation styles are different. When Will and I go to Disney, each Table Service meal is not just a dinner for us, it’s an event itself. Having good meals is something we look forward to as much as our next ride on Tower of Terror, and that’s saying something. The mom and bro just don’t feel the same, which is not a bad thing at all…it’s just something I really need to keep in mind for next time.

Peeking out the window behind us, we could see the castle, as evidenced by this crappy photo:

IMG_5261.JPG

It took awhile to get our check, and by the time we were leaving Wishes had started. At this point mom decided she wanted to head back to the room, while Craig and I hopped on the monorail to head to the Magic Kingdom. When we sat down I quietly exploded at him about dinner and how much I'd done to plan the trip (booked the room with the discount for them, picked up Craig’s bib, dinner reservations, etc.) and that I didn’t feel like they appreciated or cared that I’d put thought into where we ate, where we stayed, etc. He just kind of looked at me in amazement and said “We do appreciate everything you did. We know this trip couldn’t have happened without you.” Good job, kid. That’s what I needed to hear. :thumbsup2 I’d had a similar feeling during and after the Princess Half trip in 2011, though I don’t think I mentioned it in the trip report, so I guess I should have expected that this could happen again. I think it seemed like a bigger deal this time because of the emotional rollercoaster I felt like I’d been on all weekend. :guilty:

Oh, well…not everyone loves Disney the way I do, I guess. Like I said, something to keep in mind for next time.

We entered the Magic Kingdom at about 8:30…Wishes had just ended and people were exiting in droves. We were like salmon swimming very slowly upstream (slowly due to both the crowds and the fact that our legs were killing us).

IMG_5268.jpg

First on the agenda was Space Mountain, which had clearly just broken down. There was a small line outside of the ride queue and the wait was posted at 10 minutes. We hopped into line just as the ride re-opened…woohoo! :woohoo: This was Craig’s first time on the ride in years, and I just laughed and laughed as it threw him around and he involuntarily made hilarious noises in the seat behind mine.

After exiting the ride (and agreeing that we probably should have digested a bit before riding) we headed into Fantasyland. It was fun to re-trace the race course, and hard to believe that we’d been running there just 12 hours ago. It seemed like the race had happened ages ago at this point.

Our timing was super lucky again – we walked into Philharmagic just as another show was about to begin (Craig liked it). Our last stop for the evening was a spin on the Haunted Mansion, where we got stuck in the Madame Leota portion for about 5 minutes. Hearing her speak to the spirits over and over or whatever got old quickly.

We got off the Haunted Mansion and decided to go check on the wait for Big Thunder. Upon getting to Frontierland, I remembered that BTMRR was closed for a refurb, and was actually a bit relieved. We were both completely spent. By then it was about 10:30, and the park was open until 11 that night, so we decided to call it a night.

We got a bus pretty quickly and sat in our seats like zombies. Now we’d hit the wall. Luckily we were back to Yacht and Beach in no time! And marathon day was finally done.

Reading this update brought me back to how I felt after the half marathon! As soon as I stopped running, my body was DONE. That walk to the bus took an eternity!!!!!!!!

Ahhh, the sweepers. We were in Hollywood Studios that day and as I was coming out of the Writer's Stop I was the very last runner (at the time), with the sweepers about 15 feet behind her. I still think about that woman...I hope she got a second wind!

What a jerk that guy at Beaches & Cream was! I love that your brother walked away and didn't ask his time!!! Seriously, you are right though, people like him are few and far between in the running world! We did the half in about 2:45 (let me rephrase, *I* did the half in 2:45 and my dad stayed with me even though he could have blown me out of the water, haha)....and when I got home, a woman at work found out I had done it and said "Oh, did you break 2 hours?!!?" Ummm, no lady, I did not...but she was lucky I was on a high from finishing and subsequently spending a week in Disney World...so I just laughed and said "Not even close!!!"

I really enjoyed reading your report and loved all the pictures. It has me really excited about running my first marathon in January. Thanks for all your time and effort in giving such great detail!

I'm impressed you guys lasted in the park until almost 11pm! :thumbsup2
Seeing your dinner pictures has me wondering what the perfect after-marathon dinner spot would be. Hmmm....

Wow -- TOTAL d-bag alert! I always think about how you never know anyone's back-story in a race -- whether they've just cleared chemo, recovered from a broken leg, or just run their first ever race. Everyone out there is going the same distance. Also, real elite athletes cannot imagine a 6-hour workout. They have the utmost respect for anyone who is out on the course for a long time. It's just people who, perhaps, were unhappy with their own time or insecure in their own performance that would ever put down another runner.

Sorry -- off my soapbox again! :) Loved your race report!

Congratulations on finishing the marathon!! :goodvibes That is fantastic!
I don't know how to say this without sounding a little cheesy, but your report has been so inspiring to me. It's really made me excited for my first Disney race, and has motivated me to train on those days when I just wasn't feeling it. So thank you!
I hope your training for Goofy is going well!

I can totally relate to that "my body is DONE" feeling. Taking a nap after a half marathon/marathon is just the best. :cloud9:

Oh no! :scared1: I hope she got a second wind too. I have heard that the sweepers will give you a warning before you're swept... "you have xx minutes to make it to the next mile marker" or something like that. I've also heard that once you make it to DHS they stop sweeping, but I'm not sure if that is true. I hope she finished and get her medal!!

So fun that you did your half with your dad! :goodvibes Yeah, I don't know what your co-worker was thinking...I'm glad you were able to laugh it off! I think some people just don't realize how personal running can be, and how much it varies from person to person. :confused3

Thanks for reading, and I'm glad you enjoyed the report! :goodvibes Good luck with your training and I hope that you have a fabulous first marathon.

Haha, yes...I totally wanted to maximize our time in the Magic Kingdom!

I booked 'Ohana because it's one of my favorites and I figured that there was a good chance that the bro and I could eat our money's worth after the marathon! :thumbsup2 I think this year we're going to shoot for 'Ohana after the half (aka night before the full) and maybe Narcoossee's after the full. Celebrating in style! :cool2:

I know, right?! You're totally right about not knowing peoples' back stories. And your comparison of elites vs. those of us that take 6+ hours to finish is spot-on. Similarly, I don't think I could WALK the entire marathon. That just seems so difficult to me.

Thanks for reading!

Congratulations on finishing the marathon!! :goodvibes That is fantastic!

Thanks for the congrats! :woohoo:

I'm glad you like the report! I can relate to getting inspired by others' race reports...I've read and re-read a few on this and other message boards, so much so that I feel like I have memorized a few of them. :thumbsup2 Your first race at Disney is the ToT 10-miler, right? Ahh, you're going to have a blast!

And thanks for the well wishes on the Goofy training. I actually haven't started yet...currently I'm training for a local half set to take place on September 9 (hoping for a better time for corral placement...fingers crossed), and then the Goofy training begins the week after! :scared1:

Day 4: Monday, January 9 - Character Love!

Rather than get up early to try to make early morning EMH rope drop at Animal Kingdom, I decided to begin the last day of this short trip by sleeping in. I ended up waking up at 8AM – much earlier than I expected – and headed to Beach Club Marketplace for a quick breakfast. French Toast Sticks…yum.

Mom and Craig came over to say goodbye soon after. They were heading to Ikea in Orlando and tried to get me to come with them. Um...:scratchin love you guys but…really it was a no-brainer – no thanks. I got my stuff packed and checked out of BCV at about 10:30AM. Destination: Magic Kingdom! :yay:

Once I got to MK I didn’t really know what to do with myself. The emotional rollercoaster I’d been on that weekend continued and I was back to feeling sad that I was alone and was looking forward to going home. :sad2:

I stopped in Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe to see if they could personalize an ornament for me, but the next available timeslot was 2:30PM, and I was due to catch the Magical Express at 3. Oh well, I’ll have to get it on the next trip.

Since I was in Liberty Square anyway, I decided to meet Tiana.

IMG_5277.JPG

IMG_5278.JPG

Tiana was an all-star that day. I don’t know if she could tell I was a little sad or what, but when she saw my marathon medal, she exclaimed “I am so amazed by you! You are such an inspiration!” It sounds stupid, but this made me feel a million times better. I just wish someone had told me how terrible I looked that morning  (and yes, I was gross and wore my tech shirt for the second day in a row).

IMG_5282.jpg

After meeting Tiana, I had a serious conversation with myself. I was in the freaking Magic Kingdom, and I wouldn’t be back for months. I thought of Will, who was at work that day, and who I knew would have loved to be here. It was time to stop feeling sorry for myself and make the most of the last day of this short trip. And since there’s nothing like character loving to chase away the blues, I decided to get as many character photos as I could that day. :thumbsup2 Onward!

I made my way to the hub intending to go to Tomorrowland, but got stopped by Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It.

IMG_5283.JPG

IMG_5299.JPG

IMG_5312.JPG

It was a beautiful day…too warm to wear my tech shirt the entire time, unfortunately.

IMG_5321.jpg

Tech shirt briefly back on!

IMG_5324.jpg

I was surprised to find Chip and Dale in Tomorrowland…how can they be in 2 places at once if Move It, Shake It, Celebrate It was still going on? Hmm…:scratchin Disney Magic I guess. :wizard: :lmao: Hopefully they won’t get mad at me for not having a Chip & Dale relay medal!

IMG_5326.jpg

The ‘munks weren’t mad at all. In fact, they fawned all over me and admired how shiny the medal was. Dale helped me show it off.

Ooh...shiny.

IMG_5331.JPG

After meeting the ‘munks, I continued to pretty much follow the race course.

IMG_5335.JPG

I stopped for an ice-cold Coke in Mickey’s Star Traders…:cloud9: YUM. I’d actually bought one immediately following the race, never drank it, and ended up leaving it in the room. :headache:

I'm really loving your Marathon trip report! Congratulations on completing the Marathon! You did a fantastic job! You do such a great job of writing/photojournaling, it's easy to get emotionally invested in your report. I teared up when you finished, I can only imagine what a feeling it is!
I think it's really special that you are able to run and have this experience with your brother! I hope that one day, my kids will do special things together like that! I'm sure you are very much appreciated! Guys don't always communicate what us gals want to hear...they're...well...guys!

We've been at Marathon Weekend for the last two years. We will be there again in 2013. In our large group that goes, everyone is involved in the different races to raise money for a charity organization.
I loved your mile by mile report of the Marathon~ DH and great friend did the Marathon and when I asked about details got "it was great, ran through the parks". Guys. Loved, loved your photos!

Thank you for taking the time to write and share! I know it's a lot of effort!
Your reports truly are motivating...DH and I are doing the ToT10miler to celebrate our 20th anniversary, it will be my longest race so I love reading about race experiences, even though they are all different.

Best wishes on your Goofy training!!
:cheer2:

Love the I Did It shirt! :thumbsup2
I can imagine that you must have felt kind of down - day after the big race, on your own in the MK knowing you are heading home. That's great that Tiana was so sweet to you!

Thank you so much for leaving such a nice comment! :goodvibes I'm glad you've enjoyed the report so far.

You bring up a great point that this was a really great experience to have with my brother. We don't see one another much (he's in Florida, I'm in Ohio) so it's cool to be able to share this with him. He finally JUST signed up for the Goofy Challenge yesterday, so we're in again for 2013! :thumbsup2

That so great that you raise money for charity! And yeah...GUYS. LOL...I'm glad I could provide some insight as to what goes on during the marathon since your husband and friend weren't any help! :lmao:

Ooh, the 10-miler! Lucky you! I really want to do that one with my husband but it didn't work out this year. :sad2: Some day though...some day. That's so fun that you're running with your husband! Really great way to celebrate your anniversary (congratulations!). I hope you two have a fabulous time during the race! :goodvibes

Love the I Did It shirt! :thumbsup2

I love the shirt too! I'm so glad I got it.

Yep, I've heard a lot about the post-marathon blues. They are REAL! But there's nothing quite like a morning in the Magic Kingdom to chase those blues away! :)

Day 4: Monday, January 9 - THIEF!

Just like the previous day, I ended up in a character line at the Mad Tea Party…this time it was with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum!

IMG_5341.JPG

Alice and the White Rabbit were also available for photos. The Dee/Dum character attendant tipped me off that the Queen of Hearts would also be out that day…excitement! About a minute after my Dee/Dum picture, the Queen arrived and I quickly hopped into her line. While waiting I chatted a bit with the character attendant – a fellow Ohioan! :thumbsup2

This is where things got a little crazy (and bless the character attendant for actually taking photos!)…the Queen took my medal…

IMG_5344.JPG

…inspected it closely…

…and we got our picture.

IMG_5346.JPG

After the picture she waved to me and began to walk away…still holding my medal! “No, no, no!” I said, pointing to my shirt, “I did it.”

She considered this for a second, stamped her foot and handed the medal back to me, nose in the air. Whew, that was a close one!

After the attempted theft, I continued on through Fantasyland.

The walls had gone up around Dumbo overnight.

IMG_5350.jpg

The Fairy Godmother was out near the castle, but I passed her by since I met her in November 2009, and headed down a path near Castle Couture toward the Hub.

IMG_5352.jpg

I found myself back in Liberty Square…time for lunch!

IMG_5356.jpg

I had been quite excited to see the expanded menu at Columbia Harbor House…so what did I order? Chicken tenders and fries. :rolleyes2 Way to expand my horizons, right? The CM thought I’d waited too long to get my order (maybe 5-7 minutes, not a big deal at all) and gave me free dessert. Score!

IMG_5357.JPG

Next up was Frontierland…Donald was out!

IMG_5359.jpg

A ride on Splash sounded nice in the sun, but I passed it by. Maybe next trip.

Hey, all those people are wearing the same shirts! They almost look like a big, cohesive group of some sort! A group that tours together! From Brazil!...

Hi Shannon!

Great trip report. It's fun to read about other's experiences with Disney races. I ran the Wine&Dine 1/2 in 2011, then the Princess 1/2 in February of 2012 (during my honeymoon!) and now am going for the Disneyland 1/2 in August for my Coast2Coast. I'm excited! Don't know if my calves will ever let me try for a full, to say nothing about the Goofy challenge. I thought it might be fun to give the WDW full a try in 2013 but hubby and I are trying for a baby, so we'll have to see. Maybe I'll sign up at the expo in August if we're still unsuccessful by then, because it'd only be 5 months come January at best.

Anyhoo... sorry to go off on a tangent there. Love your pictures! Disney runs are the best, aren't they? Great time with the Rock n Roll half, by the way! My personal best is currently 2 hrs 28 minutes and I hope to best that in August.

Awesome that you can run with your brother. My hubby is a supporter and has gone with me to all my runs (even before we were married), but he is strictly cheer squad. Are you going to do the Princess or Tinkerbell in 2013? I highly recommend the Wine&Dine - it's a night run and so really different.

I loved your marathon report Shannon! I just signed up for the Marathon tonight and I'm very nervous I won't be able to do it!

I love your picture as you cross the finish line. What an awesome shot! Your other pictures don't look bad either. I did weird arm and hand gestures in my pictures from the Princess this year too!

Thanks Carey! Woohoo for going Coast to Coast! I would LOVE to run a race in Disneyland, just not sure how to make it work with airfare and my husband's schedule. But I'm sure I'll do one some day! And I definitely want to run the Wine and Dine and the Tower of Terror 10-miler some day.

My husband is also strictly a cheerleader. I really, REALLY want him to run a Disney race with me some day, but I'm not sure that will happen. Oh well, at least he is a great cheerleader!

How exciting that you're trying for a baby! :goodvibes I hope it happens soon for you. Thanks for reading!

Thanks! :goodvibes If you were able to complete the half I am sure you can do the full. My advice would be to pick a good training plan and STICK TO IT. You should be good to go!

Glad I'm not the only one that poses awkwardly on the race course. :thumbsup2 LOL!

Day 4: Monday, January 9 - Meeting the Mice!

I wandered into Adventureland next, hoping to meet Pirate Goofy…wish granted!

IMG_5365.JPG

He was very pleased to see the medal. As my ticker indicates, I'm hoping to get his next year! :goodvibes He made sure to shine my Mickey medal up for me before our photo (not that it mattered since it was cut out).

IMG_5367.JPG

It was about 1:30 at this point, and I had promised myself that I’d get on a bus back to the Beach Club by 2, so I began to make my way back to the front of the park.

IMG_5368.jpg

As odd as I found the Christmas decorations and music at the beginning of the trip, I’m glad it was all still going on. It was a nice treat.

Trying to block out the walls around Main Street Bakery:

Can you see me?

I had one last stop I wanted to make…to the Town Square Theater!

IMG_5393.JPG

IMG_5394.JPG

The hope was to get a picture with Mickey and my medal/tech shirt. As I approached the Theater, a CM called out, “You should go into the theater, Mickey will want to see that!” gesturing toward my medal. :goodvibes In reality, Mickey wasn’t all that excited to see me. The character attendant tried to engage him, but the Mouse just wasn’t feeling it. We all have our off days, I guess. :confused3 :rotfl:

Magician supplies:

Apparently Mickey’s been to Castaway Cay. This got me quite excited as I'll be embarking on my first Disney cruise (a girls' cruise) in September 2013! Woohoo! :yay:

IMG_5411.JPG

At least he put on a happy face for the photo. :rolleyes1

IMG_5413.JPG

With that, I decided it was time to leave the Kingdom. Stairs were still difficult at this point; I was using a little hoppity-skippity technique where I sort of jumped down them, because walking down like a normal person was way too rough on my quads. The CM that had sent me into the theater earlier got a good laugh out of it. “I can tell you ran the marathon yesterday!” Yep, yep I did. :thumbsup2

I'm kind of bummed that they probably won't still have the Christmas stuff up for next year's marathon since it is later.
I've enjoyed your TR! Thanks for sharing it. Reading it has helped give me the confidence to sign up for the WDW marathon - my first! :goodvibes
