2012 DVC Member cruise

I did a B2B cruise first the DVC cruise and then a 3 night cruise. This was my first and second cruise with Disney. I loved both...but I'm not so sure it was worth the extra money. The positives I found as a first time cruiser, were fewer kids, people who shared a common interest (Disney lovers!), and getting to to Castaway Cay twice! I loved the gifts we got, but I've heard the gifts from previous years were better. I hate to say it, but I also felt like the guest were a bit nicer on the DVC cruise. The cons: too short to really enjoy the ship because they have soo many extra things going on, and the extra cost. I'm going on the Fantasy for a week in October next year. We have a GTY veranda cabin booked. I think it cost the same if not less then what I paid for the DVC cruise.

For us it's not a question as whether to go or not. We have already decided to go on the members cruise. We have never been on a members cruise (we are platinum members) and can work with the date they picked for 2012. We are already booked on a 7 night on the Fantasy for early Oct 2012 but when they announced the date for the members cruise we decided to switch and than stay in Disney for a few nights. I agree 4 nights is too short, I would live on DCL if I could, it will just make me book another cruise for 7 or more nights. Maybe they will lower the cost (points) being that is an issue that many seem to have. I can 'Dream' can't I?

Hi guys - I've never done a members cruise before but my mom are thinking about going this upcoming year. We went on the Dream last May (3 night) and actually signed up for a 4 night cruise again on the Dream for May 2012.

If we can get in on the members cruise we'll cancel our May trip. Gosh - wish they would just let us know when they will go sale so I know what day to block for non-stop dialing. :surfweb:

THEY ARENT SURE IF THEY ARE DOING PHONE IN OR ONLINE. I HOPE PHONE IN, I FEEL ONLINE BOOKING THEY CAN PICK AND CHOOSE WHO GOES. STRIP AWAY ALL THE MAGIC OF THE SHIP, THEY WANT TO SELL POINTS. SO IF THEY GET NEW BLOOD ON THEIR THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO SELL MORE. THE LAST 2 YEARS OF THE 5 WE HAVE DONE WE DONT GO TO THEIR PRESENTATION IN THE THEATRE. ITS AN HOUR OF PUSHING WHAT EVER THEY NEED TO SELL. I WILL ADMIT THEY DO IT DVC STYLE AND GET YOU ALL EXCITED. WE DO THE CRUISE BECAUSE OF THE FRIENDS WE HAVE MADE ON THE SHIP. I DRIVE 300 MILES TO THEIR HOME NEAR BOSTON TO HAVE A CALL IN DAY, PARTY, I HOPE DVC WONT SPOIL THAT FOR US:confused3

Wow! I'm in Clarksville! Hoping to go next year as well. Maybe we can have the Maryland Deck!! :yay::yay:

Wow - what a small world! We're in Mt. Airy.

We've done two Members Cruises - 2009 & 2010 - had a great time!

The Maryland deck is filling up!

I honestly hope they try some other way than dialing all day long to reserve the 2012 member cruise! When demand exceeds supply, that usually means you can expect a price increase... Maybe they should add a second member cruise now that they have more ships! I vote lottery or some type of online method. The current process seems frustrating for everyone involved. How would you like to be working the phones at member services that day! Yikes!! :scared1:

I agree that dialing all day just to be followed by being on hold for another hour doesn't sound like fun. But on the other hand, going to the online method is also scary as you just know their servers will be bombarded and crash. Also pretty frustrating. :surfweb:

I guess we just have wait and see what they say. My mom called today and they said soon, before December.

I think a good strategy would be to open up a sign up period and after the sign up period hold a lottery to fill the boat. You could give the categories that you would be willing to accept and your method of payment. Once all the cabins are assigned, member services could call to confirm the reservation.... It would sure be a lot less stress on everyone involved than dialing all day or some type of online mad dash.... It would also give DCL information on how many people really want to go on the member cruise which they could use for planning purposes.... Just a thought!

we got notice about 3 weeks you could book for the September 2011 cruise. We weren't able to go:sad2:. So I was really planing on it for 2012 for September again. Then they changed the month to October:sad2::sad2:. I even cut ourselves short this year & saved points. Our membership month ends in September. B/c I saved points they had to be used by the end of September 2012:sad1:,so we missed out again. Maybe one year:cheer2:

hope you get your dates soon:thumbsup2

Thank you.

That was for a 4 night? Seems expensive. To bad they don't have the members cruise more off season for half those points.

Booking begins Dec. 11!

Disney Vacation Club has shifted the four-night S.S. Member Cruise 2012 from the originally
announced Oct. 21 sailing date to Sept. 16. And to allow more Members than ever to experience this signature event, a three-night Member voyage will sail on Jan. 10, 2013. Both voyages are scheduled to sail out of Port Canaveral, Fla., on the spectacular Disney Dream ship, which joined the growing
Disney Cruise Line® fleet earlier this year.

The move allows Members to choose the date (Sept. 16 or Jan. 10) and length (four nights or three)
that best meets their needs.*

These unique voyages have become a cherished Disney Vacation Club tradition, allowing Members
to cruise with their Disney Vacation Club neighbors while enjoying special in-room gifts, exclusive live entertainment and more.

Planning for these unprecedented dual sailings is underway, and while it's too early to predict exactly
how the two sailings will mirror or differ from each other, both will include scheduled stops at Disney's private island paradise, Castaway Cay, and both will help Members create memories to last a lifetime

So I we were to book the member cruise we would have to pay the whole cost up front the moment we call them??

So I have three weeks to get 2 grand together if i wanna go on the cruise, Right or will i be about to just put down a deposit and then pay it off.

Can I book myself in a cabin and my kids later or no ???

interesting

help please

OK, so they took part of my advice, at least there are two cruises! Time to get your dialing fingers ready for December 11th!

The change in date and cost is probably going to make me rethink going on the members cruise.

Unless they change this you have to pay in full at the time of booking. The ship is usually full by 4 PM in the afternoon on booking day so you would probably not be able to get another cabin later. Call member services and they will give you the truth and nothing but the truth.

Thanks for the info!

Now that I know you have to pay for the cruise in full, I will start saving now, so next years when they announce and do cruise I will be ready pounce on it with all my money, I have all my points tied up in our xmas trip.

I really wanna do a members cruise they sound so fun!!!

I am on a disney cruise Dec 11, will I be able to book the member cruise while onboard since I wont be able to call to book? :confused3

The only way to book it will be to get on the phone and get dialing right at opening time. If you are in port, or have cell service you have a chance. They will not be able to book it for you on the ship, though. Good luck!
