2012 Destashing Thread

I was supposed to be spending this week working on the house and the kids rooms but I just can't deal with their rooms. It takes me all day to do each room and it sucks too much. All those little pieces from toys and legos is really overwhelming. There is a place for everything but getting it back into place is the issue.

Soooo, I've been sticking with more paper decluttering and going to the gym. I guess that counts as I'm decluttering calories. ;)

I *really* want to finish a picture project I started a while back so maybe that should be my goal. Finish the frames and get them up on the wall. That's do-able.

Not sure if I should save all the 5x7 frames though or what. I took down around 50 of them (maybe more) and I have them in a bin on the stairs. It's full now even though I have more pics to take down to put into the new frames. It was a lot of money to buy the frames...maybe I can store them at my mom's house and she can use whichever of them she wants.

try selling the frames on Craigs List. You can price per frame and in same post say or Lot (so many frames) for $$

Good luck!

I just destashed a few more items.

This spare room is just taking for ever. I'm about to throw it all in a huge box and sell as a Lot on CL for cheap!

Just found this 2012 thread version. I participated last year while DH was deployed and felt I got some large items moved out alone. I even managed to completely redo a room (furniture & all) & hold a garage sale all by myself last year. I still have many small items to deal with. Lots of closets & drawers to go through. Now that DH is home from deployment, I would love for him to help me, but I can't seem to get him motivated in this department.

I will be following this thread in hopes I can get back on the bandwagon. Maybe he will see me & start helping.

He brought home way too many footlockers of military junk & items he needed to live there currently spread across the garage floor even he doesn't know what to do with. I have no more space to store anymore of this stuff.

I might have to do just that. My parents are apparently tearing apart and remodeling the basement (including my old bedroom) so if I bring the frames there, they might end up given away in the remodel.

I never got to the picture project today either. And I have a bunch of photobook coupons that expire today so I'm not sure what to do about them.

I think the best stradegy for those is to work on the photobooks when you can, let them sit in your account, and when you see a coupon, then order.

Not see a coupon, and try to make a book in the short window of time allowed before it expires.

very true. DH brought these home from Meijer and I had grand plans on making the books but I have to do it in person which is a major pain which is why I haven't made them yet. LOL

Ok, I am very proud of myself. I filled the entire trunk and backseat with stuff! Took it all to goodwill and can actually see half of the garage now.

Great Job!

I've been going through my stuff and posting on CL. CL seems slow. Not sure if its the rain or what. I'm not even seeing many people post stuff. I took new picture of entertainment center because the one my dh took made it look faded and old. What a difference a good picture makes. Hopefully someon will take it this weekend. It in the garage and taking up space. I cant get to the pile of other stuff i need to declutter kids desk, bags of toys, bags of old clothes.

I'm going to give myself until june -july and whatever is still here will be donated to goodwill or salvation army

Its been rainy here so glad I didnt plan to have a yardsale

A charity was doing new pickups in our area, so I decluttered 10 or so boxes of assorted household items. It was great to clean up before we hosted a family birthday party. :thumbsup2 It was worth about $350 according to itsdeductible, so there is a head start for 2012 taxes.

I still have another load to get ready for our church's rummage sale in April. We can start bringing items after Easter.

Had 2 bags of brochures & handouts from 2 Yellow Ribbon events related to Deployment and Homecoming. Now that THAT is all over with, went through every thing and kept just a small accordian files worth of anything we still need or have as post-deployment issues or benefits. Was so sick of seeing that hanging around for the past year. Glad to have it DONE & GONE. :goodvibes :thumbsup2

Cleaned out very large bathroom closet. Tossed a lot of very old & expired toiletries. Organized everything that was left. Amazing how many items don't have expiration dates on them - only lot numbers. Like some lotions or foot powders. I put a sharpie in the bathroom and will now start writing the date purchased on anything coming into the house that doesn't have a date.

Great Job. I was also surprised when i cleaned out my toilstrie stuff too. If i didnt use it in the last year it was tossed. I must of thrown out 2 large grocery bags of it. I had 2-3 tubs of stuff that were in my hall clothes. Now i only have one and only buy what we need and will use. No more buying stuff to tryt out hat was on sale.

I have been battling a cold so not much destashing here this past week. I hope this week to get some done.

DH and I have been working on our guest room this week, which is where stuff just seems to land. He's gone until about 6:30 & I intend to shock him by being done. :)

I put a couple of things on craigslist and no takers yet- decided if they don't sell they are going to goodwill & I'm not going to stress over it.

we desperately need to destash! We did a little bit because we are currently in the middle of finishing our basement (creating 2 bedrooms, a small sitting area, a full bath, and a laundry room down there). We were able to get rid of quite a bit of stuff but still have more to go through. I'm planning to have a yardsale sometime in the next couple of months. We have a large unfinished area above our garage which eventually will be a large family room and a workout room, but right now it is filled with Army things from my hubby. Looks like a darn Army/Navy store! :lmao:

you guys are doing great! Well I got some stuff in grops to sell on craigs list. The only thing i sold her dd's clothes, treadmill, gazelle workout and desk and a kids suitcase. Made about $166. Those deals went through fast and easy. The other stuff people ask if its still available and when i email yes and give number to set up a pick up time I never hear from them. I had another set of dd's clothes for sale. a lady asked to hold for 2 days so i did cause there werent any other offers, Then the day of i call her and she says let me call you back. Well i got another offer and she seemed very interested, emailed back and forth. Set up a time and exchanged numbers. Told her to call when she was on her way. She never called so luckily i didnt sit there and wait for her. Wish all the transactions were like the ones i mentioned above.

My goal is to go through everything and have it sold or donated by July 30th.I was on vacation these last two weeks so i had ttime to go through some stuff but last few days my allergies have been really bad so i had to stop.

I dont work in the summer so i will have more time. July 30 i will have a clean and empty spareroom and garage.

I'll list more stuff on Cl and the money i do make will be used for summer months i dont get paid for

YAAAAAAAAAY! I finally sold my entertainment center. It was taking up a lot of space. Now there more room in my garage. I can no start going through things in the garage. my goal is to so through it this week. It feels good:cool1::cool1::cool1::cool1:

Update: I got home from work and forgot all about the entertainment center. As the garage door opens and I pull in ....theres a nice big empty space. I love it!!!! Makes me want to declutter more!!!! :)

That is my world right now! DH home a month from deployment and garage floor is covered with bags, footlockers and stuff he has tried to unpack. He isn't getting anywhere. Some of it has made its way to the living room, the laundry room, and the bedroom floor. I've been trying to stay on top of not letting it take over the house.

I worked on the garage today for a few hours. I went through 2 large trash bags and a plastic tub.
Dh brought boxes from work. i tried getting some from work but someone beat me to it-lol!

Here's what i did. I'm going to sell on Cl and try to make some extra cash. i work for a public school so no work in the summer= no pay. I figure i'll try and make some $$.

Mens clothes
box 1- all mens large Shirts
box-2- all mens Xl Shirts
Box 3- mens shorts

Womens clothes
I bagged items buy size to sell as lots
placed in a box

Kids clothes
box 1- i did smaller lots and bagged each lot and placed in a box by size
box 2 same thing

Toys
box 1 barbie electronic toys

I took pictures of everything!!!!!!!!!!!
I used two 6 foot tables to sort everything out buy item and size and it made it easier.

When i was done i put one table on one side of the garage and set the boxes underneath, so if it sells its easy to find and pull out. I feel like I got a lot done.

only problem is Craigs List has gone crazy with everyone selling their kids clothes so theres lots of competition-lol! Not sure if its because its the 1st of the month and people get paid or people trying to make money for Easter.

Next task with will my bedroom closet.

How is everyone else doing???????
