2012 Beach and Yacht FAQ ~ March, April and May ~Do Not Post Here-Old Thread

Well after a much too long hiatus, we are heading back to the BC! The good news is we get to finally stay BCV for the first time, in a 2 bedroom no less. Add us to the Be Our Guest list October 21-28 please. Last month we were at BWV and got off at the BC bus stop for a quick walk home. That brief moment passing through the lobby and smelling one of my favorite Disney scents was enough to make us change our plans from Kidani to BCV. Ahhh...I can smell it now!
You can see we frequent BWV so are used to the closeness of the two parks and eateries on the Boardwalk...I've tried to read through the pages, but are there any "not to miss" tips for the BCV? Although I consider myself a WDW and DVC veteran, I'm a newbie to BCV.

Thanks everyone, especially Dee for putting this thread together!

:welcome: back!

Thanks for the nice words about the thread. Lots of helpful hands here putting together all this great info!

I'll add you to the list :cool1:

We're staying at BC for the first time ever starting on May 12th. I sure hope the SAB work is finished by then, because we booked this as a "poolside relaxation" vacation getaway to celebrate the end of our semester. We don't even plan on going into the parks, with the exception of strolling into Epcot for food. I'll be crushed if our first exposure to SAB is incomplete! :guilty:

:welcome:

Please let us know if you have any questions.

I'll add you to the Page 1 Be Our Guest list. Do you care to share your checkout date?

We are soooooo excited!!!! Booked the BC with our 1st ever club level stay for a week in June for my son's graduation :banana::banana::banana:

We are still missing one day from our ressies - BC/YC/BCV is completely booked for our date except for suites which are way out of our price range. So right now we are BC - club level  June 9 - June 17 (June 11 BWV). we are watching daily for that one opening at any level to not have to switch resorts :wizard:

I do have a question regarding the lounge - I am unfortunately gluten-free can I still eat in the lounge safely? And do they offer anything gluten-free?

Thank you everyone for all the info on these boards - it is simply amazing all the hard work and effort put into this thread :cheer2:

Hi Teena,

Sorry I did not make it over to BC to see you this past Sunday. Our family strolled over to BC Saturday afternoon to take our traditional photo with the butterfly topiary out the back door. We were shocked that it was not there! Do you know what happened to it?

Thanks, and thanks for posting such helpful information for us all.

Michelle

Hello everyone! I have been reading the thread but haven't posted in a while and I have a question so figured I'd ask the experts.

I am going to be attending Hoop-De-Do at 9:30 on June 20th. I won't have a car and will be relying on Disney Transportation. My plan is for us to go to the Magic Kingdom and catch a boat to Fort Wilderness. The Hoop De Do is very close to that area.

Here's the question. Since the Magic Kingdom closes at 10PM that night and I figure the HDD will be over in about an hour and 45 minutes (or around 11:15), will we be able to do the same thing coming back to the Yacht Club? That is, for a show that late, will boats still run from FW to MK and will we be able to catch a bus back to the resort at around 11:30-11:45 to get back? Is this an obvious taxi night for us?

Thanks in advance and oh, I just wanted to also send my heartfelt sympathies to all those affected by the partial pool closure. If it were happening during my time in the world, I'd be bummed out also.

Not to say it is an "obvious" taxi night but I'd probably either catch the ferry to the CR or bus over to WL and pay the $20 (includes tip) to take the taxi back to BC. Especially that late at night.

Hope you have a great trip.

There are pictures on the front page (on the CL section) of some of the offerings in the lounge.

For breakfast- hard boiled eggs, fruit. Oatmeal- yes or no?

snacks-potato chips, Swedish fish

appetizers- I have only done the apps a few times, but I think you can find, on some days, chicken skewers, lobster salad, bacon wrapped scallops, olives and cheese, hummus and veggies

I'm sure some, or at least part of some of the desserts could be considered gluten-free.

Since you now have a reservation for CL, you should email IPO, let them know you are gluten-free, and ask what their suggestions are for choices.

I would take a taxi in this situation, late at night and resort to resort.

The Mystery Guest at my Captain's Grille dinner had the NY strip.... see:

PS Did you have the Lobster Omelet for breakfast??? Swooooon..... :faint:

Lol! No Lobster Omelet we had the buffet.

Hi planning my first dinner here on 5/5 would you say its romantic? (as in anniversary dinner) I know my hubby would like some steak while on vacation and I thought this would fit the bill..

I would try the Yachtsmen Steakhouse for a special occasion like that...but beware it is pricey! The food is amazing, the decor is beautiful and its a nice peaceful meal.

Welcome home and what a fantastic time to be there ... during the F&W Festival!!!

I love the wedding gazebo view from the YC. Garden View. Rooms are in a horseshoe around the gazebo and depending on where you are in this horseshoe you can get a sideways view of the lagoon/BW area and still a garden view price. Personally I would NOT likke ground floor - huge hedges in this area....i would prefer higher up floor.

I 2nd this view-we had it last summer and I loved it:thumbsup2 It was so nice to sit on the balcony watching the world go by, plus we got to see a wedding on our last day:love:

This planning can be stressful!

Looking over the hours and the places we want to dine, plus being Halloween week. How are we going to fit it all in?

Do we plan California Grill so we can see the fireworks from there? But with all the (projected) nights for MNSHHP, there's really not that many nights to choose from, so we might only have 1 night when we'd get to see Wishes...so do we go for the view from the Contemporary or do we see them from Main Street?

What about Citricos? Can we see any of the nighttime stuff from there? Wishes or the Electrical Water Pageant?

Do we plan our 2TS for earlier or later in the evening? Do we want to try to make it to a park after we eat?

So many decisions to be made!

I'm bad ... I didn't even notice it was gone. I have no idea why it is gone. Sorry.

There will be busses right outside of Hoop at the bus stop that goes to the various hotels. These busses start running when the busses at Magic Kingdom are not available.

How can you say the Captain's Grille isn't romantic?? ;)

Can we nibble on your ~Dessert~ by Marlton Mom, on Flickr

I mean look at these guys! They aren't wearing shirts!! What's not to like about that??? Yeah sure it's not the kind of eye candy that the fellas would like but isn't it about time us ladies had a little romantic place of our own?

If you must go with your husband be sure to ask for a table for 6....

LOL :rotfl:

Hi! We've stay at YC every year & eaten in Captain's Grille many times. Unfortunately, it wouln't be my idea of romantic. It is nice, but I would describe it more as an upscale hotel's everyday diner. Not that I mean anything bad when I say diner. Just that it is casual, some tables are very close together, some are next to the open walkway.

I think there are more romantic places, like Yachtsman's, Shula's, Le Cellier or one of the restaurants in France.
Thanks! :thumbsup2

Here's my review of the restaurant from my trip report (2010).

EPCOT and Captain’s Grille

I wouldn't describe it so much as romantic, but quiet- not as hectic as a lot of other Disney restaurants. So it would probably fit the bill for an anniversary dinner.

Yachtsman next door is probably more romantic, definitely darker and also more expensive since it is a Signature (2 TS) dining location.
Thanks I loved your review :thumbsup2 (I'm going to read your whole TR now..!)

Yep I did check their menu but don't have that much to spend on dinner - I just wanted my Hubs to be able to have steak so I think that the Captain's Grille will be ok.

Thanks everyone for the advise/input.. I appreciate it.. Michelle

Honestly, the ribeye there was one of the best I've had in a long time!!! And I found the prices very affordable ... especially for Disney!

Well, even though you won't see Wishes on a MNSSHP, I believe they do still have fireworks, which they may or may not pipe music into CG for:confused3. Either way, it's still an amazing view (not to mention great food) plus you can see the Electrical Water Pageant from there!

We haven't eaten at Citricos, but I believe it's a more sheltered view, so no FW or water. (Narcossees has the better views, but from what I hear not as great food)>

No matter what, it will be a blast, I am sure, but I'd highly advise you give CG a shot if you haven't before!:thumbsup2

Food wise I personally think Citricos is much much better than California Grill. We've had lousy luck at CG and will never go back. Food was just okay and service was horrible the three different times (over a 15 year period) we tried it. Three times and you're out in my book. You can see the Electrical Water Pageant from Narcosses and it is a fun thing to experience. We've had good and fair food at Narcosses but always great service. Heck, we've even had a few great dinners and fantastic service at the Cafe in the Grand Floridian. It's one of Jeanne's favorite places to eat. We love the breakfast there: steak and eggs!

Citricos and CG are both on the list of places we plan to dine in Oct. I'm just trying to finalize plans since our 180 day is approaching - ok, it's still more than a month away, but that time will fly, I am sure.

I know there is Hallo-wishes on MNSHHP nights...but what time do they do the fireworks? Is it around 9pm or is it at the end of the party, which I'm guessing is midnight. I'm not sure we could stay up that late. We're usually in bed by about 10pm, but hoping to push it a bit while on vacation. We are early risers, so staying up late is tough.

And we've been to Narcoossee's before, so it's not on the list for this trip.

We have Artist Point, Citricos, Jiko, Cali Grill, and Flying Fish planned for dinners. (Also Cape May)
We decided Flying Fish for our arrival night. Artist Point on Halloween night and then we want to do the carriage ride at Ft. Wilderness after. So we still need to work in the other 4 dinners during the week.

I think this is where my WDW nightmares come into play...I always dream that we're down to just 1 day left on our trip and we haven't gone to any of the parks.

We went in 2008 and from what I remember it was pretty late but our kids were little back then so anything after 9pm seemed late. Their cousins were older so they got to stay up past 9pm.

This trip its just the 4 of us and not all 12 family members. We are trying to start planning our dinning soon too! Crazy how quick it comes once you really start planning.:scared1:
