2011 Yacht & Beach Club FAQ, Part II

DS (4, will be 5 when we go), DH, DGrandma, DGrandpa, and I are going to Disneyworld in October. DS picked YC from a couple of photos because of the pool (of course!) The grandparents are staying at Bonnet Creek, so they are not Disney resort guests. DS, DH, and I are staying at Yacht Club.

So, here's my question:

DH and I are celebrating 5 years of marriage :bride:, so the grandparents are generously taking DS off our hands on October 4 & 5. DH and I are going on some backstage tours, getting massages, parasailing (we are not planning on being anywhere near YC on the 4th). So, my question is, this is going to be a non-park day for all so it would be perfect for DS to go to Stormalong Bay. I've read that YC/BC is pretty strict on entry to Stormalong Bay. Will they allow DGrandparents to supervise DS at the pool even though they aren't resort guests?

I don't want to do something that is breaking the rules, so if this is not an option, we might have to think of another pool day for DS and make sure that DGrandparents and DS have theme park tickets on this day or plan some other fun for them.

Thanks as always! :flower3:

Hello,
I have a quick question.does the pool have those birds that when you eat by the pool they attack you? Lol..:)

Ok so I have been lurking on the boards and posting a few times on other threads, but I thought I would hop on here and hope that you all can calm my nerves. We will be staying at the Beach Club June 6-11. I am very excited but am starting to panic about all the things that ned to be done. But between wrok and our three kids I am finding it very difficult to get ready. Plus now I am starting to panic because I think the rooms look small for the 5 of us. It will be DH, myself, DD 15, DS 6, and DD 4. We stayed at Jambo House in 2009 and had a "suite" I guess is what you would have called it. It had a little wet bar with a sink and fridge. The room itself had a queen size bed and a hide away bed in the couch. That was nice b/c we could fold up the bed and the kids had room to play. Will we have enough space?

I was worried too because we always stay in 2 bedroom condos when we travel. But I just said to my husband today that I don't miss a bigger place and it has been fine for us based on the amount of time spent in the room. We've been in it enough to appreciated the deluxe level resort size room. I don't think I would want to go much smaller. My kids are younger and we do have a full balcony for a little extra getaway. The bathroom area with the tub is a bit small but found the sink area bigger than we expected and bigger than pictures seem to show.

I have felt through this whole planning process that Disney seems to cater the the cookie cutter family of 4 and there are not alot of options for families of 5. I am here now and so glad we made this choice. It has worked out in every way for us.

We leave Saturday. I can't wait. The kids don't know yet. We are telling them when we leave (LOL at 2:30 am in the morning) - Not sure how two 7 year olds and a 6 year old will deal with the wake up, but the surprise will probably overcome any groggies they get.

OUR FIRST FAMILY DISNEY TRIP. I'm sooo much more excited than my husband, but I NEED this trip.

Can't wait to leave 45 degree weather and see some 90 degree RAYS!

Hello,

Birds? I thought they were hungry teenagers, like the ones at home that never seem to be full and cozy up to you when you have a "big something delicious" all for yourself. The one that hangs around my house makes dog eyes at me until I throw him half. I'm thinking those are the only hungry things near the pool you'll have to look out for.....

We are flying down the same day as you :goodvibes I know what you mean about the crazy cold weather. There's a chance of scattered frost here tonight with a low of 37. I just checked the Orlando weather for next week. Next Tuesday's high is 97. :woohoo:
Have a magical trip!

Too funny and quite apropos, Marlton Mom!

However, my poor granddaughter was absolutely terrorized by a big black raven who fought her for her coveted chicken nuggets at the Poly pool last year. The *@%& thing was a beast! He (of course "it" had to be a teenaged "he" because he was so hungry) kept diving for her nuggets - to the point we were all waving our arms like a bunch of crazy hockey refs, or something!

One word of advice - don't eat outside at the Poly near the pool unless you have a gun filled with birdshot! (OK - just kidding about that last sentence...) Don't know about the BC.

Course I don't see how the birds could be any worse than the teenage boys. Is there such a thing as teenaged boy repellant to be used safely around food? If so, please direct me to the place where I can buy some!!!!

Also for all of those who are at the beach club in the next month, I would love any more pictures or questions to put into a scavenger hunt around BC. I figured it is for my son but when I get it all made up I will post it for anyone to use it. We are going in Dec. and last year it got cold. I am planning a day or two just to enjoy the resort. If it is too cold or rainning it will give our family a fun game to play out of the room. Thanks for all that has helped and all that are going to help. I thought this will be fun. Remember I have never stayed there so Please include answers. Thank you!!!:worship:

I want to say Thank you for everyone's suggestions on how to tell my son. Originally we were going to wait till we arrived at BCV to tell our son for his 13th birthday we were going to stay at his dream hotel, but some things changed. My son got some really rough news last week that crused his heart and he cryed off and on for a few days. It was nothing like a death and nothing that he did wrong but it did affect him in a negative way. Anyways the weekend was rough at the begining and it wasn't getting better. So my DH and I decided to tell him. We drove over to Huntington, WV and I snuck off to the Disney store and bought a Fab four character beach towel where they were eating ice cream. Then I bought the new Pirate movie reuseable bag. I also stoped by the candy store and got salt water taffy and a mini sand bucket with candy in it. The CM at the store took my reservation print out that and wrapped it in a towel and put all the stuff in the bag with tissue paper. He was at Game Stop with his dad returning an old game. He thought we were taking him to Game Stop to get his mind off the situation. We then meet up at Ruby Tuesday's and ordered drinks, we asked the waiter to bring a virgin pina colada for him. Then when he got his drink we gave him our goody bag. He opened everything and said thank you for the stuff and that it would be good for the Myrtle Beach trip. We told him it wasn't for that. He had a question look on his face as he opened up the towel to look at it, the paper fell out and at first he thought it was the recipt. I asked him what it was, he opened it. As he read it , I wish everyone of you could have been there. His sad depresed expression turned to wide eyed, excited expression. Then he said "Is this for real" "I don't believe you" "are you sure?" Then probley a hundred hugs and non stop thank yous. :cool1::yay:

He is in a much better mood and still can't believe that we are staying there. He is in a great mood and his room has never looked cleaner!

Thanks for sharing your story! I'm sorry that your son is dealing with some very sad news, but it always help to have something to lift your spirits!

Here are a couple more suggestions for your scavenger hunt:

Take a picture with the BC greeter. Double points if that greeter is Teena!

Find 3 Hidden Mickeys- Here is a list of BC HM from the internet. Some may not still be around, but sounds like it is a good idea to look closely at the pictures that are hanging up around the resort and especially the Solarium.

Find a giant butterfly (Is this topiary here all the time?)

Find the price of "The Kitchen Sink" (Beaches and Cream)

Count the number of bouquets of flowers in the lobby.

What are the flavors of gelato for sale at the Marketplace?

Something with the lighthouse. Does it have a name?

In what direction are you walking when you go from the Beach Club to EPCOT? (East)

Will they allow DGrandparents to supervise DS at the pool even though they aren't resort guests?

Everyone who is entering SAB must show a room key to the resort. No finger scans, but a keycard is required for each person.

You could explain the situation to the person at the entrance, but I suspect SAB will be super crowded on July 4, so I wouldn't count on them making a special exception.

Room keys are not required to use the quiet pools, but there are no lifeguards there.

As I am in the process of "improving" this thread, I have come up with a list of a few photos I would like to add to the front pages.

Dee

I don't have any of these photos, but am willing to go on a photo mission for you when we touch down in 12 days!

Dee
Let me know if you need any more photos. We leave in 10 days but are staying at Pop before BC (checking in on May 10). My Dh will be bringing his Canon DSLR and loves taking pics. :thumbsup2

OK, it is just a couple of days bofore your upcoming vacations and I can only imagine that you are crawling up the walls with excitement!

You have both offered to accept a couple of reconnaissance and photo missions during your trips. Thank you for that!

I don't want either of you to go out of your way to get any of the requested photos, and I especially don't want to have you do anything you haven't otherwise planned (example- don't come back and say "I gained 5 pounds because Dee made me take a picture of the Kitchen Sink!")

Info:

Are there any age restrictions for hot tubs?- Moonies, I believe you have that one covered

Are there any size restrictions for use of Jib slide- PittPantherfan may try to find the answer this week.

What time is Bingo by the pool?- If possible, when you return from your trip, if either of you could scan the May activities guide, I could post to front page as a sample schedule of activities.

Requested Photos:

Marketplace:
* Refillable Mug Station * I really want this one!
Salad- not the grab and go- do they still make custom salads?

Solariam- would love to post a couple of these. I have never been in the room! (Except in two-dimensional form)

Laundry Room

Arcade

Healthclub

Dining:
Mickey waffle from Cape May character breakfast
Dessert from Yachtsman Steakhouse
Meal/Kitchen Sink from Beaches & Cream

Remember- your most important mission of all is to have a FANTASTIC vacation, to report back to us and make us all extremely jealous!

Thanks!

Dee

There are wheelchairs available free of charge at the resort for the use of guests, based on availability. I don't think you can reserve them in advance, so you need to ask at checkin.

I'm not sure what kind of wheelchairs (manual or electric), but perhaps someone who knows or has borrowed one can share more details.

thanks...do you know if you can keep them for the length of your stay or is it on a day to day basis?

I don't know for sure, but I think that once you have one, you would get to keep it for the length of stay- If I were working front desk, I would prefer to tell a guest that there are no wheelchairs available rather than to ask someone who already has one to return it the next day when they still need it.

They actually use to do scavenger hunts at the Y&B. Sometimes the kids would come running to me and needed to get my name. So, you could add "what's the name of a current Beach Club lobby greeter?" The answer would be Teena or Richard.

Another question on the list was "what is the name of the children's club at the Beach Club". The answer is Sandcastle Club.

Both of those questions and answers can be easily found by running around the BC.

Course I don't see how the birds could be any worse than the teenage boys. Is there such a thing as teenaged boy repellant to be used safely around food? If so, please direct me to the place where I can buy some!!!!

VEGETABLES! !!! You can repel the teenage boys with green, leafy, HEALTHY vegetables. We're talking NO ranch dressing, no cheese and no frying of any sort. Try hiding your big something delicious under a pile of broccoli. The teen aged boy will smell something good, come over and check out your grub, see the veggies and RUN!!!

~MM
PS. My husband is 54 years old and I'm still chasing him around the house with a plate of veggies!

my boys are 26 and 49 and they both run from veggies....

I even hide my favorite snacks in the vegetable bin of the refrigerator because neither one of them will open that drawer.
