I'm nervous. The last two trips were pure excitement to plan but this time I'm nervous. For the first time ever I'm planning on taking my kids out of school for a couple of days for something other than an illness or a doctor's appointment. They get a four day weekend (four days is definitely not long enough when you haven't been in four years) in October and I've always wanted to do MNSSHP but didn't think I would ever bite the bullet. I really want to do this while they are young enough to enjoy it.

DS is 12 now and it's going to be a tough one to know if he enjoys it. He was diagnosed with Asperger's a few years ago after our last trip. Part of the reason we had him tested was because he had a complete meltdown every morning when he would ask if we were going to the Lego Store and we would have to remind him that the DTD day was scheduled the day before the last full day. It has been really rough dealing with a lot of day to day activity such as homework and trumpet practice. Not to mention cleaning his room and now we've had a rather large bump in the road of missing money from the Disney piggy bank.

DD is 8 and I believe will fully embrace MNSSHP. I've promised her a trip to BBB the day of the party and she is stoked. Her biggest issue is that she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 6 1/2. This will be our first vacation since the diagnosis and a real test for all of us. I wish Disney had a Droid app that listed all the carbs in all of their food. Of course it probably wouldn't help much. The weekend we went to our service unit's girl scout camp out had her blood sugars so low I spent both nights up all night trying to get her to drink juice in her sleep. I cut her insulin at dinner the second night and she was over 500 a couple of hours later. I'm going to work out more of a plan with her nurse practitioner before this trip.

Here we are just minutes after entering the happiest place on earth for the very first time as a family.

Now on to the last really stressful item. We are flying. I don't want to but I also don't want to drive. We just won't have the time. I'm already pulling them out of school for two days. I would have to make it four if we drove. I don't know the first thing about booking flights. I would love to get straight flights with no connections but I'm thinking that's not going to work. Especially at the times we want to fly. I always said if we flew I would want to go with Southwest Airlines because I've always heard such good things about them but their October schedule isn't even out yet. I want to avoid Delta NWA because we had issues last time. My TR was closed before I had the chance to post on those. I should type something up and ask a mod if I can add it.

Question, would it be really stupid of me just to walk into AAA to book my trip and have them take care of the flights also? I always remember T booking through AAA and then getting a great deal on flights all on her own. If even a handful of you say just go with AAA then I'm in their office Monday booking everything since that's the date I read the October flights should be released for Southwest.

I can't wait to come back and post things as they are planned. I really enjoy going back and reading the TR that I made. It brings back so many memories. Plus, help with any problems that arise would be awesome. :thumbsup2

UPDATE 03/25/2011 Changed my posts color today to red. Let me know if that's annoying was going to change it to lime green but it was a bit too much. Think I will make the updates I add to my post a different color though. :-)

Booked airfare with Air Tran
Leaving Indy on October 15th at 7 AM to arrive in Orlando at 9:13 AM
Leaving Orlando on October 22nd at 6:40 PM and arrives in Atlanta at 8:13 PM. Leaving Atlanta at 10:15 PM and home by 11:46 PM.

Officially booked ADRs here.

Hey girl

When you posted on my thread a bit ago, I saw your started a pre trip, so had to come join :thumbsup2

I had no idea bout your your son or your daughter. I am glad you have a diagnosis for your son. I am sure knowing what is going on is a relief on one hand

Disney is great when it comes to food allergies and special diets. When you make any adrs, you can tell them your daughter is a diabetic. Then when you get the restaurant, make sure notied on your adr and you can have the chef tell you what things would be good for your daughter to eat

Southwest all the way. No luggage fees and great service. Plus, if you book a flight and notice price goes down later, you can rebook and get that credit put into an account that is good for one year from date of booking

Are you staying at AKL? I noticed that was in your ticker

Do tell popcorn::

Joining in! You can DEFINITELY do all of the medical stuff, et el that needs to be handled...Knowledge is power and sometimes just knowing what you are up against helps.:grouphug::hug: Hugs as you plan....and if all goes well we will be going ourselves to MNSSHP in October....Do you have dates or did I miss them? :confused3

PARLA! I'm so excited to be reading you trippie!

I hear ya - I struggled with pulling Leo out a couple days for WDW trips, too. If it helps you, my concerns were totally unfounded and he missed very little! :thumbsup2

:hug::hug: Girl, you have had a lot on your plate.

I don't know the first thing about booking flights.

I've never booked through AAA, so I'm knowledgeable enough to comment on that. But I have flown SW quite a bit over the past few years and have been really happy with them, even with layovers in the mix. :thumbsup2 It's frustrating that their flight schedules come out so much later than others, but they're also usually way cheaper; worth the wait. Good luck, whatever way you decide to go! :thumbsup2

How exciting!! A new PTR! :cool1:

Wow, you sure have a lot going on. I'm sure you'll get DD's meds situated. My DN was diagnosed around the same as your DD. He's now 9 and is taking care of his own meds/diet.

Bring on the details!!!:surfweb:

I'm so excited! People actually posted on my PTR, I thought it was just going to be me talking to myself. Welcome all! :goodvibes

Thanks for the vote for Southwest. DH was looking at Orbitz the other day and it was spitting out times for Delta. I was lecturing him about our last trip and never flying Delta again.

Yes, we are going to be at AKL. After the last trip to the BWI we just realized that we loved AKL too much to ever stay anywhere else. I'm considering doing the Arusha view. From what I can tell it just gets you closer to the lobby. The walk we had to our room last time we stayed there was way too long for the end of a day at the parks.

Do you have dates or did I miss them? :confused3

I'm glad you asked. :) Originally I was going to pull the kids out of school for Tuesday and Wednesday on a week that they already had a four day weekend. But then DH was looking at the flights and typing in Saturday to Saturday. I was very confused and he was like, "If you're gonna do it do it right." :thumbsup2 So the dates will be October 15-22.

I'm really leaning that way. It seems foreign to me to plan a trip without solidifying the flight at the same time but I haven't planned many trips with a flight. Funny enough, this is the third trip I'll be flying on and they all involved WDW.

DD just decided at her last Endo appointment that she wants a pump. If you mentioned a pump before she would immediately start crying. Now she wants one so badly and doesn't understand why they didn't just give her one when she asked. I'm sure the doctor is just making sure she still wants it at the next appointment but I know we'll also have to take classes and prove we can maintain certain blood sugars before they'll let us get one. Then dealing with insurance may be another matter. I think pumps run about $6,000. They haven't given us too much trouble with supplies though, other than the office always has to call with a new test strip prescription to convince them to give us 300 instead of just 200 a month. I have used 8 test strips in a two hour period when she's sleeping while force feeding her (in her sleep) so 200 is definitely not enough.

I know that she will be taking care of herself soon enough though. Pretty scary to think of a kid doling out their own insulin. Diabetic children have to mature so fast to be able to handle all of that.

I'm planning a trip to AAA to book AKL today. I haven't explained price differences yet to DH but I'm 99% sure I'm getting the Deluxe Dining Plan. One of the things we enjoyed most on our first trip with the kids was all the sit down meals. We weren't able to get the DDP on our last trip and only had two sit down meals. We really missed those! Now that DH has decided Saturday to Saturday I'm especially not worried about missing out on park time and can't wait to start making ADRs.

My nephew has had the pump for around 6 months, I think. He does so well with it and it has really balanced out his numbers. No more spikes or huge drops. Good luck with your DD, I think she'll really prefer the pump as well!:goodvibes

AKL?!! Love, love, love it!! We're staying there again in December. :thumbsup2

So I'm a bit confused. Southwest has flight times up for October now. Why do they charge more and you can earn more points. Is that the only difference in paying $335 as opposed to $151? Looks like a straight flight down in the afternoon is available that's the $151. Then on the flight back I don't care so much about a stop just want to leave as late as possible so that would be $181 to leave at 4:15 and get home at 8:50.

That all adds ups to $1448.40. Ouch! Was hoping to keep it around $1000 if not less. Maybe wait a bit? Really don't want to book and then get a credit that we have to use in a year. Just have no place to go in a year.:rotfl:

V, I need your help. How does Touring Plans and Ridemax work exactly? I have a droid and can only assume they have apps for me to download. But I think I have to pay first? You've talked them up so much I'm really looking forward to using them. :goodvibes

Those flights were just released

I would wait if it were me.

Last year I googled southwest codes and found one at the time and got like 25 off per person and it was only like 100 to start with.

I would give it a bit of time

I always find that their flights seems to be priced cheaper around midnight. I guess they think everyone is sleeping

Just my two cents

WOW and WOW! :littleangel:many prayers are being sent your way. I can hardly fathom a place being so great someone would want to keep going back...But I'm about to find out for myself in dec. I have taken my child out of school in the past for family stuff...we got the schoolwork before hand and he did a report and got some extra credit too. Plus I think he enjoyed the trip that much more since he was having fun and his classmates weren't. good luck!!! looking forward to more.

Quick, everyone post your absolute favorite restaurant in all of Disney World and the best thing to eat there. Just booked AKL today and got the DxDP. Spent the evening discussing restaurants with the family. We'll each have 21 TS credits for our 7 night stay. Here's the running list of places we want to eat...

Boma
Jiko - Could probably do without one of these but not sure, never got to eat at either last time because of DH complaining. He's not the most adventurous eater. I got DxDP this time though because we love all the breaks that TS brings and I want to try places we didn't get to try before.
Kouzzina by Cat Cora - Not sure about this place at all but DD loves her some Hasty Tasty Cooking Tips.
Hoop Dee Doo Musical Revue - Been there, done that, loved it!
Supercalifragilistic Breakfast at 1900 Park Fare
Disney's Spirit of Aloha Dinner Show
Whispering Canyon Cafe
Crystal Palace - DH's must visit place for every trip
CRT
Biergarten
La Hacienda
Rose & Crown - DS' top pick for fish and chips
Tutto - Marked just because I remember seeing it referenced several times by V. :rotfl:
Garden Grill - Always wanted to eat there and I plan on booking the Behind the Seeds Tour
50's Prime Time Cafe
Sci-Fi
Yak & Yeti
Donald's Safari Breakfast at Tusker House - Another DH request since he liked it our first trip with the kids.

I know this is 22 credits. I added Yak & Yeti and need to ditch at least one Epcot restaurant. Epcot just has so many places to eat! Plus with Food & Wine I'm looking forward to having 14 snack credits per person! :goodvibes

I'm not initially getting park hopper. We didn't like all the traveling back and forth last time. I'm much more inclined to travel to a resort for dinner than into another park. Epcot for two days is okay in my book.

Oh, and the AAA travel agent was leaning toward booking us with ATA because it was slightly cheaper and they have lots of direct flights out of Indy. I guess Southwest just bought them. She's told me to keep my eyes open for any possible free dining or discounts and she'll let me know if anything happens with flight prices. ATA doesn't even have the second half of October up yet. Last pin I got was good for weeks surrounding the week we're going though just not our week or the week before. Fall break must be getting booked up. We couldn't even get a room with a regular Savannah view. It disappeared from my search after my first night of pricing. Had to go Arusha view. At least I didn't feel the need to spring for bunk beds. No way I'm getting a pool view at AKL though. Why stay there if not for watching giraffes eat their breakfast while waiting for your family to get dressed in the morning?

So I was messing around on the Disney World website last night and figured out I could put my reservation number from AAA in and it would pull up my info. I don't think it did that last time. That was kind of exciting. And when I clicked on dining it told me I could start making reservations on April 18! :cool1: I hadn't actually counted the days yet so of course I immediately got my calendar out and counted to make sure they were right and then wrote it down on two different calendars. I have my regular calendar which is full of dance lesson, guitar/trumpet lessons, soccer, work and school events. But I found this cute calendar in the One Spot at my Target and bought it before we were even planning a trip. It was $1 so I thought no big loss if I don't need it.

The dates have lots of room for reservation numbers. :goodvibes

dsc00378u.jpg

Notice both the calendar and the folder are the perfect Disney planning colors. :cloud9:

My only concern for April 18th is that fact that MNSSHP times are not set in stone. The rumor is these dates...
Sept. 13,16,20,23,27,30
October 2,6,7,10,11,13,16,18,20,21,23,25, 27,28,30,31
Nov 1
How am I supposed to make ADRs based on rumors? Especially when I want DD to go to BBB the day of the party.

Lets see

Trent and I love breakfast.

Kona Cafe - Tonga Toast...to die for :thumbsup2

Cute planners :goodvibes

google 2010 MNSSHP dates and bring up 2010 calendar and 2011 calendar and you can kind of figure most of dates out :wizard:

I am here following along. Our family will be there the EXACT same dates(check out my PTR)! I love sharing ideas and reading about other's plans...especially when they are for the same dates as me! ;)

I am so excited to plan but encountering some of the same obstacles as you...Oct hours haven't been released, MNSSHP dates are not set in stone and I am trying to plan ADR's! Ahhhhhh.... :scared1:

Good luck with your planning. I can't wait to read more!

Kona Cafe - Tonga Toast...to die for :thumbsup2

That's the second post I've read about Tonga Toast today. Oh dear, I don't have Kona on our list. Ohana should add that to their menu! :goodvibes

Looks like we spoke too soon! October hours have been released!:banana::banana: Here's the link! http://www.disneytravelagents.com/St...lendar_oct.pdf
Happy Planning! :cool1::cool1:

Stephanie, I think too many people were looking! That or else that wasn't supposed to be a public link. Oops, did you print it before it died? :-)

hi there- i am subscribed too! So sorry on your son's diagnosis and also managing your daughter's diabetes. A friend of mine (adult) recently got the pump and he said it is the best thing he's ever done (he's been diabetic for over 20 years I think).

Love all the restaurant choices.

If you plan to do 2-3 sit down meals a day, i would recommend doing breakfast early if you can before the parks open (at resort or in park) and then doing dinner late too. We are going to do that, try and get our CRT dinner scheduled for 6:45pm on a MNSSHP night, that way we can enjoy MK up until closing time (7pm for non-party guests) and then eat after, so we aren't really losing any park time.

Can't wait to hear your flights! hopefully you get a great deal!
