2011 Free Dining is Extended! New dates as of 8/3

Question: Right now we are holding a value resort package with park tickets and Plus Dining. If they extend the FD package, traditionally the value resorts get QS meals. However, you have the option to upgrade to TS (plus dining). On the flip side, moderate resorts have traditionally come with TS when the FD was released. Did anyone run the numbers in 2010 for what the difference is between Moderate/Plus Dining and Value/Upgrade Plus Dining? If the cost is the same, wouldnt most people just book the Moderate (assuming they want the table service)?
For most, it's still cheaper to stay at a value and pay the difference to upgrade to the Basic plan.

Maybe somebody can correct me because I don't know if I have the right numbers but I believe it's like $13/person/day to upgrade.:confused3 I guess it depends on the number of people in your family but when I did the numbers for us it was still a few hundred dollars difference to stay at the Mods.
The 2011 price for the Basic DDP is $46.00 per adult 10+ and $12.00 for child 3-9. The price for the Quick Service DDP is $35.00 and $12.00 per child, so the price difference to upgrade is $11.00 per adult per night and $0 for kids.

I know for our trip in September, the upgrade cost for adults and children were the same.
Not unless your children are over the age of 10. For 2011 the price of the Basic DDP and the Quick Service DDP are exactly the same amount, $12.00, so there is no charge to upgrade the kids to the Basic DDP for 2011.

Well thats not what I was told. In fact, the extra amount of money im paying even reflects it...it would be alot cheaper if it was just the adults and oldest children I was paying for. I'll have to call them and look into it, but I know I was specifically told, just 2 days ago that everyone in my party had the same cost for upgrade. I hope youre right, thanks!!!!

You were most definitely given incorrect information. You can look at the WDW website, the 2011 prices for the Basic DDP and the Quick Service DDP are the same exact amount for children. How could they charge you $13.00 per child? You need to call Disney Reservations.

Just speculation based on previous years and chatter on these boards. It's certainly not definite and July is quickly running out so maybe August? I've also heard it could be well into August until some kind of announcement is made. It's really anybody's guess. Disney is being very close mouthed about it so far.

I keep hoping!

Really, there isn't any guarantee they'll offer it at all. But there've been a few rumors out about waiting until August for the release of fall discounts. Nobody knows what form the discounts might take though.

Yea this isn't right. It is only $12 for the regular dining for kids. There should have been no charge for them unless they were older than 9? I am a Disney Travel Planner so I see this upgrading alot with the FD. The only charge should be for the adults.

Just got off the phone with disney, CM, she told me that no pins codes are out yet, and to keep an eye out for the specials on the site, and to call as soon as I see one. So no one will tell you anything, going in December and need to know soon, or will have to change a few things, asked if I wanted to book dining.
:santa:

Called Disney reservations yesterday and there was a FD pin code waiting for me! :woohoo:

So excited that I can FINALLY start planning. The waiting :surfweb: has been killing me!

I got it fixed. They had my younger children listed as older....i tell ya, if they CAN mess it up with my reservation, they HAVE. My husband is an inch away from canceling the whole thing. Thank you. :sad2:

I don't understand about calling Disney & getting a "FD pin code". How is that accomplished?

We stayed at Disney w/free dining last Nov & plan to go to Disney this Dec, but do not have reservations yet. Right now we are booked offsite, but may switch to onsite for a few days if FD is offered. Not a big fan of Disney dining plans because we don't spend that much OOP for food, & we have offsite places we like better. However, would like it for a few days just to save money on some of the Disney higher priced dining spots we like.

We have the Disney Visa.

How does one qualify?
Who / what # do I call?

Even though we have stayed at Disney hotels for years, used to own their timeshare, have had annual passes from time to time, were Florida residents for a couple of years, & have had their Visa for years, we've never gotten notice of a "special offer" that is not offered to everyone, or of a "pin code". Guess we better not play the lottery!

Edit - forgot to ask - If we make a Disney hotel reservation now to save a room for us, then if free DDP is offered after I make the reservation, can I keep the reservation room & price & still add the free DDP?

PIN codes are random discounts Disney sends out via email and snail mail, but they're notorious for not getting through reliably so some people call to check and see if they have one attached to their name even without receiving the email or postcard. You just call the regular reservation number and ask the cast member to check if there are any PINs attached to your information.

Lately it seems like a LOT of people are finding out when they call that they have an offer available that they never received any notice of, plus Disney is sometimes doing on-the-spot offers now as well where the computer will pop up a discounted alternative option that has to be booked right then. So if you're ready to book but just waiting on discounts for your dates it is probably worth giving CRO a call just to see if there's anything available to you.

I read somewhere that often when they offer these random pin code specials, after a while they will release the same offer to the general public.
Does this sound correct?

If so, I think this is a good sign for those of us planning a trip for Nov/Dec :cool1:

Yes, you can add a discount to an existing reservation and your reservation number doesn't change, even if you change resorts. When the discount code is released you just call Disney Reservations and ask them to apply the code and they will credit you the difference.
