I'm glad to see other DISers are interested. :cool1:

Right now, it looks like August 2011 is the front runner. Which is great for us. Any reason to get out of Texas in the summer is fine with me. :cool2:

With the kids being out of school and if Bill's work schedule permits, we'd love to spend at least one weekday in the park. Looking at the park map, we'll need at least two days at Cedar Point. Also being in Ohio and Bill being a BIG Cowboys fan, we have to visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio (approximately 2 hrs from Sandusky, OH). We have to see Emmitt Smith's new bust. :thumbsup2

For the music fans, there's the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, OH (a little over an hour from Sandusky, OH).

Onsite Hotels (If we decide to visit in August, it will be a busy park. Staying on-property might be beneficial to get early entry. There are all different price level hotels to choose from. :thumbsup2)
The City of Sandusky, Ohio
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Pro Football Hall of Fame

Two days is a good amount of time for the park. That way you don't have to run from ride to ride. They have sold two day two park (Soak City is there water park, separate admission required) for years and it gets you in both parks for two days for a reasonable amount.

They have done packages in the past where you stay on-site for two nights and get a package with two day admission plus a twilight ticket (like the preview ticket for Hershey).

There is an awesome Space museum somewhere in Ohio. Can't recall where exactly right now....and is Geauga Lake still open in some reincarnation?

Jennifer,

Good stuff here. I will seriously consider staying on-site too.

Mark

Jimmy & I would love to be there! We missed out on the Hershey weekend, just due to my lack of planning for it :sad2:. I've ALWAYS wanted to visit CP - we even had reservations all set one year, but had to cancel at the last minute!

I'm not going to vote for a month, though, because our schedule is already so crazy - we have a wedding in May, and one in August, not to mention our ABD trip, and regular WDW trip in there somewhere! We'll just hope that whatever weekend you all plan for will work for us! Sounds great!

(Oh, and I forgot that we'll probably be visiting TX sometime next year as well. Jimmy is a PSYCHOTIC Cowboys fan, and we haven't been to the new stadium yet, so that's somewhere on the agenda as well. I better go plant that money tree...holy crap :scared1:)

Geauga Lake is closed, there is only a water park there now. Wild Water Kingdom I think it's called. From what I've heard, not worth a special trip.

Put In Bay might be something fun to day for a day. Could make for a fun DISMeet too.

This year's group brochure can be found here:

They do offer some catering for small groups. I put a trip together for my employees several years ago and it wasn't too bad. It's park food quality, but it was nice for everybody to be able to tag up together and share a meal together before we went back out into the park. You do have to have a minimum amount of people, depending on package. Just something to think about.

As WaltD4Me said, Put-in-Bay and Kelley's Island are other options in the area too. Kelley's Island is really a relaxing atmosphere. No cars are allowed on the island, but they rent golf carts and bicycles. Put-in-Bay is more of a party atmosphere. There are boats that shuttle back and forth from the islands. And, there's always Marblehead too. This sounds like so much fun! :yay:

I think you're confused about Kelley's. Cars are welcome.

There are currently five 'on-site' properties.

•Hotel Breakers (there 'flagship' hotel) literally walking distance to the rear entrance. Think Beach Club and International Gateway, only closer. This is the only property I have stayed at. I have stayed in the tower, which is newer, concierge (which was a waste of $$ per night for us), and the older section. It was very nice to be able to walk back to the room and change clothes/grab refreshment/etc. Themed weakly as Yacht and Beach Club
•Sand Castle Suites Unsure of the theme, all suites
•Breakers Express Value, little theming
•Lighthouse Point & Camper Village Fort Wilderness Cabins and Campground (RV only)
•Castaway Bay similar to Great Wolf Lodge

2010 on site packages include:
Early Entry
Enter the park ONE HOUR before the general public to ride Maverick, Millennium Force, Iron Dragon, Raptor and the rides in Planet Snoopy! Weather or maintenance conditions may make rides unavailable.
Admission Discount
Guests of the Cedar Point Resorts get the best discount on park tickets! One-day tickets are just $29 - that's $16.99 off the gate price! Discounts also available on multi-day Ride & Slide and Starlight tickets.
Packages
Save money when you combine tickets and an overnight stay.
Close To The Action
No other hotel can match the convenience (or location) of our properties.

But they are pricey. The Knight's Inn isn't too far, rooms are 1/4-1/3 the price, and are pet friendly.

Thank you for the info and break down of the hotels.

We DON'T plan to take our Ms. Minnie with us on this trip. So, we don't need a pet friendly hotel this time around. That will make our lodging choices more vast, even on the way up and back. With the Cedar Point trip probably being a year away, we can better prepare for this trip than the Hershey trip. That was a very shoestring budget and quick trip for us. :rolleyes1

People who boycott Universal because they can't fit into some of the rides will probably wish to boycott Cedar Point, too. Just a word to the wise.

I'll keep tabs on this thread. I am hoping to make a trip back "home" to Cleveland, Catawba Island and Put In Bay next spring/summer for an actual vacation, not another funeral like my past few trips have been. No commitment, but if it works out, I'd be in! We did our grade school trips and after prom at Cedar Point.....it has been YEARS!!1

daughter has a BFF near there.........they met up at the park for a day this summer......and if i remember correctly they also went to the Rock and Roll hall of fame with a combo ticket..........sure they would like to do that again..........about 5 1/2 hours for me......:car:.........hmmmmmmm

We spent the Sunday of prom weekend at CP too (and the Saturday camping in Mohican).

The space museum mentioned is probably the air force museum at Wright Patterson near Dayton, about 3 hours from Cedar Point.

I would love to meet up there. I grew up 10 minutes away and my parents still live there. Spent several summers working there in high school and college.

Since you're looking at August, just FYI most of the schools up there went back last week.

We are interested in going to cp. It seems like there are a lot of cowboy fans on here. My dh is also a big fan. Maybe we could go a group trip to the football hall of fame?
Does anyone know how far away the longerberger basket factory is from. Cp?

Longerberger is in Dresden, Ohio, which is about 3 hours from Sandusky. I've been there, it's a very cute little town and it was pretty cool going to Longerberger and I don't even do the baskets.
