I have a question for Dee, Robyn and all the summer BCers!

So after initial enthusiasm over the Kennedy Space Center, our boys decided they really want to do Typhoon Lagoon instead. So they made a very persuasive pitch for that last night. Great presentation, including a list of reasons we should go to TL (with visual aids!) With all that effort and enthusiasm, we granted the request!

Now, I'm still mourning the loss of River Country and have not been willing to try one of these "new" Disney waterparks. So I don't know much about TL other than what I read in Dee's trip report! I've just done a few searches and called Disney, but I'm left with a question.

So my question - it will be August. We are a family of 5 and we plan to arrive for EMH at 8am and stay all day. What do you all think about the Getaway Glen Umbrellas or the Beachcomber Shack? Prices have increased to $50 per umbrella set (we'd need two) and $319 for the Shack (in addition to admission costs.)

Hi Pixarmom! Our family went to Typhoon Lagoon in Sept of 2009, and we had a blast! We just grabbed a couple of beach chairs to throw our stuff on, and honestly, we didn't sit down all day!!!! I'm pretty sure they were in a shady area, and we definitely didn't get there at opening. I think the only time I sat down in the chair was to put my sandals on to go get lunch. Way too much to do!
My kids want to try Blizzard Beach time this around, I hope they like it as much as TL.

If you end up renting a scooter and have a positive experience with Apple, let me know after the trip and I can add the contact info to the front page.

Will do Dee. Right now I am 99-9% sure I will be renting one from them, I would rather be safe then sorry if my knee should pop on me while we are down there.

Hi. Our first trip to the Beach Club is 2 weeks away!! :cool1: I have all these questions popping in my head, so I thought I would try to put them in one post (although I'm sure I'll have more later).

1. Our first full day, we have an 8:10am Crystal Palace reservation. What time should we be at the bus stop to make sure we get there in plenty of time?

2. When we go to Chef Mickey's one evening coming from the Beach Club, should we take the bus to MK and walk over? Is there another easier/faster way?

3. If we want to go to the Future World part of EPCOT, is the shortest way to walk through World Showcase?

4. Are there any pictures of the closets in a Standard/Garden room? We will have a lot of stuff to try and cram in there, I'm hoping they are big and do they have a shelf in the top?

5. I've heard you can request clothes hangers - are they the "normal" kind or the weird hotel kind that you have to hook on (I hate those)?

That's it - for now :). Thanks for any help!!

I believe the busses start running around 7:00. I try to be there by 7:15 when we have an early breakfast ADR.

2. When we go to Chef Mickey's one evening coming from the Beach Club, should we take the bus to MK and walk over? Is there another easier/faster way?

I think if you are using Disney transportation that is the fastest way. Sometimes we'll take a cab over if we are running late. On the way back one of our favorite things to do is take the monorail to EPCOT and then walk back to the International Gateway.

3. If we want to go to the Future World part of EPCOT, is the shortest way to walk through World Showcase?

Yes

4. Are there any pictures of the closets in a Standard/Garden room? We will have a lot of stuff to try and cram in there, I'm hoping they are big and do they have a shelf in the top?

I don't have any pictures (Natebenma probably does!) but I can tell you that the drawer space and closet space is good. I pack for 5 people for our vacation, which is over 2 weeks long. I'm neurotic and have to unpack EVERYTHING the first day and found the space to be just fine. I bring all my own hanger so I can't tell you about what kind of hangers they give you, except there are some wooden hangers already in the closet when we get there.

5. I've heard you can request clothes hangers - are they the "normal" kind or the weird hotel kind that you have to hook on (I hate those)?

That's it - for now :). Thanks for any help!!

If you have any other questions - feel free to ask! There is a wealth of BC/YC knowledge here on this thread!

Welcome back! Glad you have another stay, although it is quick. Did you read that Teena spent last night at the Beach Club with her family so they could have a couple of days enjoying SAB?

I'm still pulling out your photos on occasion when someone has a question. Thanks again for taking and sharing such detailed shots!

Thanks! I did read that...glad I'm not the only one, lol!

Hi! I have tried to keep up with this thread, but I just can't check in often enough to keep up with everything!

Our trip is in just less than two weeks, and I am so excited!

Unfortunately, we have a little situation to deal with now. My mom was having some really bad foot pain, so she went to the doctor and it turns out that she somehow fractured her tibia and didn't even know it! The doctor has her in an inflatable boot that goes up to her knee and she is not supposed to put any weight on that leg for the next few weeks. We talked about trying to postpone our trip, but Mom wants to go on as planned. She is going to have to rent an ECV to get around. She is really nervous about using it, but I have tried to reassure her. I definitely didn't tell her about all the jerks on the disboards who complain about ECV's in the parks! So, now I am wondering about having the ECV in her room at the BC. Will an ECV fit in a standard room at the BC? Do we need to try to request a handicapped room for her? I feel so bad for her because she feels like she is going to put a damper on our trip, but I have told her that we have to move more slowly than in past trips because we have DD now, anyway, and we are just glad that she and my dad can still come.

So, if anyone has any tips on WDW and BC with an ECV, I'd love to hear them!

Hi Disney Khi! So excited for you! :)

I know Dee and sjs314 already responded to your ECV question, and we don't have personal experience with an ECV at Disney. But my dad just rented an ECV in Newport Beach, CA last summer during our vacation. His injured his leg at the gym and we walk at Newport just as much as we do at Disney. He found a scooter-type thing, and he felt more comfortable with that than the larger ECV. It fit through doors a bit easier and we just had to remember to recharge it every night. Please tell your mom that it didn't put a damper on our trip one bit - sometimes he moved more quickly than we did (and he did a few wheelies to impress his grandsons!) :wizard:

Thanks so much for the advice! This sounds exactly like our family, so I think passing on the cabanas/rental chairs is the way for us to go too! Hope you have a great time at BB!

1. Whenever we have been out at the BC bus stop by 7:30 am, we have been at the MK gates by 8 am. If it were me, I would be out there by 7:15 am for an 8:10 CP

2. Yes, bus to MK and walk to CR. You could also take a cab, under $20 with tip.

3. YES!

Right, save the money you were going to use for the rental for mini donuts. Mmmmm!!!

I'm really glad you all are commenting on this - we don't typically do laundry while on vacation, as we don't have kids - but with the new luggage per-bag charges.... I might be packing some travel sized he detergent this time around!:thumbsup2

BC washers are front loaders now - so pack some HE detergent!

We stayed YC last year, and I brought along the Purex Wash/Dry sheets....but I found they left an OIL like spot on certain pieces of clothes. this year at BC I planned on just purchasing what was available in the laundry.
We have used the Purex Wash/Dry sheets MULTIPLE times and have never had any problems with oil spots. They are extremely convenient and love them. Plan on using them again this year.

Ocalla - I wonder if something was in the washing machine prior to cause the oil spots? I will say that last trip staying at POR, one of my shirts came out with an orange mark on it, definitely NOT something caused by our clothes. :headache:

I think the earliest that they let any one in the park with a pre opening breakfast ADR is 7:50. Even though we usually don't book Crystal Palace until 8:30 we always try to get there at 7:50 am so that we can take main street and castle pictures without the thundering herds in the picture.

So think about going early and yes there were photo pass photographers there to take pictures that early.

Just wanted to let any July BC/YC Dissers know that the Fireworks Dessert Party ADRs opened up for July today.

We've done it twice so far and this is on my dd's "must do" list.

Can you tell me about the Fireworks Dessert Party? Price and the like? Sounds fun. I assume you get a reserved spot for watching the fireworks, correct?

We went to TL last year. We honestly didn't even use the chairs we put our stuff on. Friends of ours rented a locker and kept everything in there. I really don't think a cabana is necessary as you are moving around so much going to all the different attractions. We plan on going to BB this year as my youngest was really frightened by the wave pool!

So sorry they were not able to retrieve more of your pictures, I usually take my laptop along and download my pics daily but not planning to on our trip in Oct, I bought extra memory cards.....a little nervous now

I would bring your laptop and transfer them. I am so bummed as my whole memory of Beach Club and other stuff is gone. Wish I would of never bought a new camera and would of been fine with the old one. Next time I will bring my laptop and do what you do!!!

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your not-so-little girl looks so healthy and happy! She is very lucky considering how tiny she was. Mine was huge in comparison at 5.4 pounds at 34 weeks. I can't imagine going back and forth to the NICU everyday for 3 months. It must have been both exciting and scary to finally bring her home.

I hope you can soon take more wonderful photos at WDW:goodvibes

Thank you. We are blessed. She is one stong girl. Her big brother was born at 8lbs /10 ounces so having her born at 1 pd/10ounces was alot different. It was hard going back and forth to the NICU every day especially with a 3 year old at home. We still wish her twin sister was here with us, but the cards were not with us on that one. I almost lost my life too so I will not be having any more babies. I lost 4 pints of blood and had to have a transfussion and then my blood would not clot so it was touch and go for me. 8 years later I am here and also have a wonderful healthy family that really loves Disney World. Hoping to go back in 2013!!!

Does anyone know if the BC will deliver a cake to the room while we are out and leave it as a surprise for when we get back for our midday break? or will they deliver it if i call when we get back? I was thinking of having somehting in the room for my son as we will be there on his birthday. We are doing MK rope drop, break, Ohana's for dinner (his pick) and back to MK (considering adding on the wishes dessert party, but not sure. Opinions on that??) Still feel like I need a cake being he's only turning 7, but having a cake at Ohana and then going to the park doesn't seem easy. so back to my original question...will BC deliver a cake to the room and leave it as a surprise or will they deliver it when I call?
thanks for any help.
I have been on here in the past when we have been to BC, I don't post much, but i stay up to date on the posts. this board is the best!

I have a question on the robes in CL rooms...
We are staying at YC CL...first time at YC & first time in CL room.
The robes are already in the rooms right? We get 2 adult ones? Do they have kid sizes? I am thinking they might be nice to walk down to the pool at night or during the day rather than a cover up.
Thanks!

rlahansler, beautiful picture of your family! Thanks for sharing the photo and your story.

Hi Jennifer!

I'm feeling great about our no-cabana decision! Thanks for the post! Our youngest is the one who puts his toe in the ocean and that's it (HIGHLY unusual in our family!) The older boys are another story - we'll need to remind them that this will be like the ocean so they don't get overconfident. Can you compare it to the local waves? I assumed it would be like Newport waves around 15th Street on a yellow flag day, but now I'm thinking it might be more like the Wedge!

We're thinking about staying at the Yacht Club during our trip in October as we have never stayed there before.

Any room suggestions? Or any requests we should make once we would book a room?

We are thinking abou booking a Water/Pool View room.

Thanks!

The fireworks dessert part is at the MK. It is the area by the Tomorrow Land Noodle Station. They do a really nice dessert buffet and you get reserved tables and a great view of the fireworks and Tinkerbelle flies right over you! We've done it one night each trip. It's a great way to not have to sit on the curb for two hours and the desserts are just an added treat.

You make an ADR through Disney dining. You do need to pay the whole thing is advance though.

HTH.
