Question for everyone about getting to DHS quick!

On DS's bday, we have a 7:30 am ADR at Cape May Cafe. We have always done his bday breakfast with characters However, we are also going to DHS for SWW that day. In the past we have always gotten to the gate at 8:30 am for SWW, to watch the Stormtrooper show and get towards the front of the pack for the TSM stampede.

Assuming that we get seated on time, pay the check and are willing to leave by 8:15 am (irregardless of whether we have seen each character), what is the fastest way to DHS?? 1) walk, 2) boat, 3)taxi?

We haven't been to Cape May Cafe for breakfast or dinner, so I can't say how long it will take you to eat or if you will be seated on time. However what I can tell you is that taking the boat would be the fastest option. Just remeber after it leaves the Yacht Club/Beach Club dock it will then stop at the Swan/Dolphin dock and then it will arrive at Hollywood Studios.

I was actually thinking that taxi is potentially the quickest (assuming there is one there willing to take a fare that short). But does anyone know where the taxi drop off is at DHS? I have only ever used one to get to AK.

I say walk too. But it is quite the walk. It takes DH and I about 15-20 minutes to get over to DHS. But we usually beat the boats there.

Thanks! I know we walked from DHS back to BWI in November, and it didn't feel like a bad walk at the time, but it was also 60 degrees. Not sure how it would be in the summer heat (although it should only be 80 degrees or so at 8:30am...)

Hi! I posed this question on the resorts board, but didn't get an exact answer. Hopefully one of you pros can help me. We're planning another Grand Gathering for April 2012. The biggest arguement we have is where to stay. Our youngest brother has only one request, a marina to rent boats. We've done Wilderness Lodge, Coronado Springs and Port Orleans, would LOVE to stay at Beach Club. But I read on a photo of a sign that the only boat rental discount Y&BC honors is DVC. We are passholders, we always get a percentage off of boat rentals, and when you're renting ten sea-racers, that discount really helps! I know, babbling, but can anyone confirm that Beach Club honors the passholder boat rental discount? Thanks

That's strange. I would think AP rates are available at all marinas, but if you want to rent SeaRaycers, I recommend that you go to one of the MK resort marinas to rent. It's a way bigger body of water for SeaRaycers. And they for sure give AP discounts. We've rented from Poly & WL.

Great news on your Mom!!!

We leave on Monday around 9 AM for pre-op testing at Mayo in the afternoon and then surgery is scheduled for Tuesday morning. We'll come home Wednesday.

Am I missing something? Room categories are changing again? Is this for CL or the regular rooms?

Excellent question. Two problems with the boat: 1- is the wait you may have for the boat to arrive and 2- the boat may be full. That happened to us this summer. They didn't let us onto the first boat at the dock, they were saving a few spaces for people at other resorts.

Walking- you have the most control

Taxi- I wonder where it does let you off at HS. That would be good to know!

Am I the only one who literally uses 100 ziploc bags when packing??

OK, when I saw in your live report that your 9 year old LOVES LOVES LOVES Legos (mine does too), and that you also have a wee bit of a Ziploc bag obsession, I wanted to pass along this tip.

Practically all of our souvenir dollars are spent at the Lego Store at DTD. But getting the large packages home in our luggage is a problem. So we open the boxes, and place the smaller bags full of Legos for each set into a gallon-sized Ziploc, along with the instructions. Much less packing space. But the boy still wants the boxes, so we break them down flat and put them on the bottom of the suitcases.

You can of course also ship them home, but Ben doesn't want them out of his possession.

Seriously, I DON'T have investments in Ziploc . I swear!

I shared this tip about packing Legos on my trip report and another mother of Lego-loving-sons promised me bodily harm if her kids got wind of this tip. They were using the same excuse about not being able to pack the big sets.

Hi all,
Marlton Mom has been doing too much thinking again and now she has a question. I was wondering if it wouldn't be easier when trying to get to DHS before rope drop if us Beach Club people went to the boat dock by the EPCOT gate instead the one for BC/YC.

Does the friendship boat pickup from the EPCOT gate say at around 8:15 am? I have read that the boats will leave room and not pick up 100% of the people at any one stop to save room in the boat for people from other docks. I figure the first pick up dock will have the most room, especially if people haven't figured out that you can catch the boat to DHS from the EPCOT dock.

As for the walking to DHS thing, Marlton Mom is hot enough in January let alone June so she will either be in that boat or water skiing behind it. I like to tell people that my horoscope sign is keep refrigerated!

And finally,is there any word on the air conditioning in the boats coming back from the dead? If the boats are still set to broil Marlton Mom is willing to launch an "Awareness" campaign with Disney Management!
