2011 Beach & Yacht Club FAQ

I know y'all can help with two questions.

1. I asked this before. I think it wasn't answered. (Sorry if it was and missed it!) Are the hotels doing something new, where they are allowed to sell AP? I saw on another thread a little while ago, that they are doing this.

2. I need help with room requests. Honestly, we're not terribly picky, but I'm sure there's something we could at least ask for. So here's the scoop. We're a family of 5. (So I'm assuming there is no need to actually request a daybed, correct? They will just know.) My kids are 9, 8, and 5. We currently have a GV booked. We do plan on using SAB a bunch...so maybe request close to there? We will be heading into WS a bunch, not only to tour, but other days when we have lunch ADRs. So maybe we should request close to EPCOT? DH would probably appreciate something quiet, but isn't a huge priority. So maybe something higher up, or away from CMC?

I understand we can't request everything, but what do you think would be the best request for us? (If we had to make just one.)

I would request close to EPCOT.

The rooms that are the closest to EPCOT seem the quietest to me also.

Agreed! Our rooms have been in a number of different locations and I don't really have a particular favorite because we're always close to something and nothing seems that far away at BC. So if you want to be close to Epcot, you're still not all that far away from SAB and the lobby.

For one of our trips last year, we had a great standard room right near the "secret entrance" described on the first page. (It's probably garden view with the new categories, but I'm not sure.) It was very close to Epcot with an amazing view of the Illuminations fireworks. If you end up with something like that, and you don't feel like winding through the hallways to SAB or the lobby, you can just jump out on the path around Crescent Lake and get to either in moments. If the weather was either hot or rainy, the hallways are wonderful!!

Does the YC have air conditioning sensors so when you are not in/ or no movement in the room the A/C turns off? If so, does anyone know how to override them? We are going in May and I don't want to wake up sweating.

Thanks!

I don't know that YC has those kind of sensors BUT if a room does, then I always purchase a balloon and put it near the ac air vent so that it bobs and sways in the breeze. That is usually enough for the motion detection unit (Which is separate from the AC unit!) to sense that someone is in the room (Mr. Balloon!) and keep the air on.

Mwa ha ha!

Ooooooh! Awesome use of a balloon that you just know the kids are gonna "make" you buy! I hate waking up hot too. I mean, I set a thermostat to where I actually want the temp to be.

Ok, thanks ladies! It sounds like if I request a room near EPCOT, I might get a two for one. We shall see....

Anyone know about buying the APs at the resorts?

July 29th, Princess!
Hope that wasn't taken already... this thread is hard to keep up with!:lmao:

DawnMaree has Princess July 29.

Pirate is still available for that date, or you can check out the very bottom of page 1 to see the current guesses.

You know, I don't know if they do because the last time I was there (Dec. 2010) we were running HEAT instead of air. But I'll share this with you, something I pulled off this thread last year and took with me just in case I needed it (WHICH I NEVER DID!!!!)

HOW TO BYPASS Thermostat SENSOR:
On the thermostat push the power button and the down arrow (that adjusts the temp) at the exact same time. If you do this correctly there will be the letters "bp" where the temp numbers usually are. You are now bypassing the sensors in the room. You can then set the temp to whatever you want and it keeps the room that cold whether you are in it or not. You might have to do this once a day as the thermostat tends to go back to sensor mode after 24 hours.

Bugger! :lmao:

Ok, then against my better judgement, I am going July 29th Pirate. :)

I just really like that date....;)

I picked it first so THERE!! :snooty:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Yeah...well, you just knew I was going to pick it and did it to spite me! (Because we all know that is going to be the winning date!):rotfl:

Nah, we're not competitive or anything.

Seriously, where is a little smileyface with his tongue sticking out? That would be perfect for this thread. :goodvibes

Oooh! MOMMY LIKE!!!!!!!
That is much more evil than the balloon idea and cost effective too!

I THOUGHT I was in the running for the BC/YC Thread Employee of the Week with the Balloon tip but your thermostat tip just parked me under the bus!

Good going Kate's Dad! :thumbsup2

I know I have seen the answer somewhere .. but of course , can't find it when I need it.. can someone compare the size of the room from BC and Yachtclub ?? its for a family of 5... the reason I am asking is that my neighbor is going ... and he asked me if I knew anyone that has stayed at the Yacht club for info .. and I don't .. he has stayed at BC .. not sure if its availability or pricing .. but thought I would ask here .. as I know I can get answers .. thanks for all the help. he is concerned that the rooms might be smaller at the yacht club than at BC ...

OK, I find this hard to believe. Have you gone onto the WDW website and pretended you have no reservation at all and tried to book the three days together? I bet either standard or garden is available for those three days. But I think you might have mentioned you are there on a conference? If that's so, then this is what I would do:

Do NOT do an on-line checkin!!!! When you get to the front desk, ask to speak to a manager right away. Tell them the situation and ask them if there is anything they can do so you do not have to change rooms. Tell them you are willing to pay for a garden view all three days or you would be willing to stay in a standard view all three days. I think they will be able to work it out for you.

Hi Teena - I went online and it is available.... however I think the problem is there are no other AP discount rate rooms available for the garden view for that night and no std for the last 2 nights. I also just called back reservations hoping for better luck but nothing.... I have a work meeting (not at WDW) and then the next day mom and I will check into the YC for a quick vacation :cloud9:

Thank you for the check in suggestion. We are more than willing to pay the extra for the garden view or just stay in the std if it's available. For a quick trip I'd prefer not to move but it's just the two of us so really no big deal if we have to.... just going with the flow this trip :fish:

I've never heard/read of the rooms being any different sizes .... other than different configurations so some rooms may be smaller/larger in size based on their location within the building.

But in general, I think all the rooms that would accoomodate 5 would include the daybed and be the same size at YC & BC.
