OT- HE TOOK THE THUMB SPLINT OFF!!! :thumbsup2

(For those of you who may have missed the post/picture a few pages back, my son Nate has been wearing a splint for a fractured thumb since April 2010 and refused to remove it)

I have no idea why he did this today. We haven't been nagging him and he has no idea I posted about it a few days ago. He came into the kitchen this morning after his shower and said "I took my thumb thingy off. Is it ok if I still wear it when I write and play football?" The thumb does not look that bad. I am encouraged that a few minutes later he said "It is starting to feel better"

Braces are supposed to come off tomorrow. :teeth:

Wow that's a long time to keep a splint on ! Was he just afraid he would reinjure it?
:yay: for braces coming off!! DS14 got his on late I think they are suppose to come off this summer- crossing fingers!! He just NEEDS to remember to wear those stupid elastics
But I'm sure when they come off it will soon be time for DS10 :headache: How about Ben are there braces in his future?

I don't have my dates scheduled for Vegas to help with end of school stuff yet but I think if I go it will be on 6/5.

If you go out to Vegas on Tuesday, do you think you would be working Monday June 4? That is the day I arrive with Nate for his class trip. We haven't had a chaperone meeting yet to see what our schedule will be like or what kind of freedom we(I) may have, but I would love to come on over to say hello if we can work that out.

We can talk as the dates get closer and we both know what we are doing that week. :)

Yep, I normally work Sunday and Monday and fly out on Tuesday AM.

Well, DH has won. He changed our resort reservation to the Poly. So, we wont be a the Yacht Club 5/10 - 5/15

You guys have been great and I am convinced that we would have LOVED the Yacht Club, especially Storm Along Bay.

Maybe we will get there on our next trip. ;)

Don't really know why he wouldn't take it off. The doctor told him he could take it off when his thumb stopped hurting, but Nate kept saying this thumb was still painful. I didn't believe him enough to take him back to the doctor.

The dentist hasn't suggested that Ben needs braces. Yet. I hope not. Such a pain. Every night: "Nate- brush 'em and band 'em"

I know someone on this board can help me with this-
I wanna schedule the Wishes dessert party but my DH wants to see the parade and Wishes all in the same night b/c God forbid we come back just so I can see the parade (well my mom too) b/c DH and boys could care less about it anymore.- I know makes me very :(. They sat through it last year just for me.
Well my question is- will we be able to get to the party after parade ends if we sit at the beginning ( about 20-25 min right?) if we have a seating of like 9? Is it ok to be a little late? Why does DH need to stress me out about this? I just wanted to do dessert party one night then parade another.
Just thought of this while typing- my mom and I can watch parade while DH, dad, and boys do rides!!! On a different night than WDP. I think I answered my own question. What do you think?? :)

Sounds like you guys need to SPLIT UP!! Um.... I mean Split Up at the parks. The kids look like they are old enough so that dad can handle them alone.

It's OK to do separate things from time to time at Disney, in fact this is an important principle in keeping everyone happy. If you have the kind of husband that's snarky about having to help with the kids, tell him it's YOUR TURN, you'd like to do the parade and he can join you or meet up later after doing something else with the kids.

Hopefully your spouse will be more empathetic to your needs, but if he's not, assert yourself and tell him what you would like to do and ask if there is any way you can reciprocate for him that would allow him some time off of the family leash. Sometimes doing things alone at the parks is just as rewarding as enjoying them with the family.

Good Luck,

~Marlton Mom

Hey everyone, I have asked this before but I never really got a response so I thought I would ask again.

Is there a specific room that we should request at the Yacht Club? I was wanting something that is closer to the lobby and closer to where we board the boats.

We just have a standard view.

What do you guys think is best?

Thanks!

Thanks I did think of that later while typing. He is absolutely ok w/ it. He just didn't think of it soon enough. Thanks for the:idea: though.
It will make things much easier to just do the party one night and see the parade w/ my mom who wants to. And have DH and boys do the rides that way everyone is happy :thumbsup2

Just got off the phone w/ DS's sped. teacher. He is starting M.S. in Sept. and has mild anxiety disorder. Wanted to ask her if they could make sure he has at least 1 friend in his class? They do make sure at least 1 kid is with them from his school, but in his situation it really needs to be a friend someone he plays with. Wasn't sure how it was gonna go. I think it went well she totally agreed with me and said he would perform so much better. She is going to bring it up at the team meeting this week and call the M.S.
So happy about this
Just had to share :yay:

Deb:)

I'm so happy for you! My oldest has a not-so-mild anxiety disorder combined with depression. He was diagnosed this year after getting a 2nd grade teacher who yells at the class a lot. It has NOT been a good year for him! You have my sympathy and support!

I'm another one who is quite unhappy about the FP rules. With 3 little kids and all the unknown drama that can occur at any moment during a trip, we've liked the flexibility of the "old" FP system. I realize that the new system might be ok afterall but I hate the constriction of it. I find it bad enough that we plan ADRs 180 days out and then have to figure out our park schedule in advance. Our life is so stressful (2 surgeon family with 3 young kids, one with anxiety/depression and one with mild Cerebral Palsy) that I keep trying to keep our Disney trips as spontaneous as possible. The idea that we should pre-plan every minute of the trip doesn't work for me - AT ALL! Ok, vent over. ;)

In happier news I'm 99% sure I'm going to run the ToT 10 mile race the last weekend of September. BC is one of the host resorts so that will likely be where I stay. I'm super excited since BC is one of my favorites and it's a perfect location for the 1st weekend of F&W. I'm really hoping that this will be the solo trip that I didn't get last year.... I didn't book my trip - yet! I'm thinking about flying down on Friday, September 28th. It looks like that'll likely be a MNSSHP night so I hope to attend that. Saturday night is the race - followed by an after-party at DHS. I'd fly home Sunday night or Monday morning. So psyched!!!!
Plus it's almost our 180 day ADR time for our August trip to BC. Time to start obsessing! :lmao:
I made an executive decision to spend a 3 day weekend at Fort Wilderness in a Cabin following our June 5 night Dream Cruise. With all the trips we have planned this year, I couldn't justify the higher costs of staying in the Boardwalk area. I'm thinking that we'll have a mellow weekend enjoying all the Fort has to offer with little to no park time (ah, the advantages of having APs!). Opinions?
I'm here in spirit, even when I'm not here in person!

It is always advisable NOT to request a specific room as the assignor will not know why you want a particular room and if it is not available, they will just assign you to whatever is open in your category.

If you want a room close to the lobby, that should be what you put on your request. And remember, these are always just requests, and nothing is guaranteed.

Yeah, I guess I misspoke. I don't really mean specific room EXACTLY. I was just meaning like, area or wings.

For example at the Contemporary we said which side we wanted to be on we would be closer to the castle and further away from Chef Mickey's.

And at POFQ we didn't make a request and we were in the building furthest away from the lobby and it was awful!

And here is a sample with the writing:

Personally, I wouldn't even have that much of a problem buying the photo if you could buy one or two 4x6's. Just the right size for a scrapbook. Not interested in a 5x7.

Sorry sometimes the thread moves fast and a question may get lost in the rush of the progress.

The general concensus seems to be don't ask for a specific room. If that room is not available on your check in day (which statistically would happen more often than not) they will then just randomly assign you to another room in your catagory since they don't know why you requested any particular room.

Better is to ask for 'a room close to the lobby' or 'a room near the elevator' or 'room near the boat docks'. That way they can look at your requirement and give you whatever room is closest to your request. Also the more request you make the less likely to get any of them. Try to just add those 1 or 2 absolute really want to have requests.

Also just a remindar that it is only a request and sometimes you just have to take what it available, but they really do try to give you something close to what you want.

I only made two. Near the lobby elevator and upper floor. I was 2 rooms down from the elevator but only on the 2nd floor. They filled my first request and the second one was a kinda but not really what I wanted. However I had put them in that priority.

Hope this helps.

Sorry we missed you!
I would request "close to lobby" on your reservation... and don't do on line check in so that when you do get to the hotel front desk you can confirm that this request was honored for your room assignment or ask that it be fixed if you aren't close to the lobby.

Like Tigger, we know you bounce around a lot in life so no worries when it takes you a while to check back in on us.... we'll wait for you!

The solo trip sounds great, in fact I think I will take one myself... like at the end of this month!! I also am not staying at the BC because I could not afford it this trip, especially since I am ditching the family and running away from home! :yay: I know I'll get back there some day... but for now I'm on a LOW budget. I think the Wilderness Cabins will be a real treat for you and the gang and it will help keep things fresh and exciting. I think planning a Disney trip with out going to the parks makes it easier to enjoy all those other Disney attractions that aren't in a park. Things like mini golf and renting boats often get pushed to the back burner and these are the type of Disney treats that can be enjoyed by the whole family for a relatively low price (when compared to park tickets).

One of the things that you can do for free is to take the boat from Down town Disney to Port Orleans French Quarter and Port Orleans Riverside and do a little hotel exploring. The boat ride is gorgeous and best of all they do the driving and it's FREE! Why heck, they will even take you back to DTD for the low low price of Nuttin! This is one of those adventures with beautiful scenery, some Aha moments, like when you float by the Tree houses and Old Key West resort. It's the perfect thing to do for a family that wants to go somewhere with a minimum of effort expended.

So that's enough from me. Keep us posted on your comings and goings and stay tuned for further reports and other mischief from your friends here at the BC/YC FAQ thread!

Have you had a chance to look at the maps? I know there have been a few posted. I'll see if I can find the links and if you want, I can PM them to you so you can keep referring to them.

We will be there for the first time in October, so I have no experience yet. I'm just going based on the maps myself, although, we are Garden View and we haven't really noted any area request.

Looking at this map, it looks like close to the lobby will put you within good distance of the boat dock also since it's directly across from the lobby entrance. Note: you may have to move the map since it is focused on the Beach Club side.

Amanda - my DH ran the TOT in 2008 and we LOVED that trip. First, it was a surprise trip. The kid didn't know anything until the morning we left!
We did MNSSHP and the TOT race was so much fun. After the race we just kept walking on Toy Story with no wait at all!

Here's another set of links, which shows the room numbers. Please note, this is very old and some of the room categories are no longer correct. At the time, there was no Garden View Category, only Standard and Water View. But it should give you an idea of where some of the rooms are located.

As others have said, your best bet is to request a room "Close to Lobby" (which will be close to the boat dock) and if you have a floor preference (first floor, upper floor) you can add that too.
