Thanks for the Captain's Grill reviews, I think we are going to try it for at least a breakfast.

I just talked to the head pastry chef. The gingerbread houses are selling so fast, you now have to order them 48 hours in advance. The kits are selling out fast too but they are easier to make so they are keeping up on those as of right now. However, I expect them to be very hard to get shortly. Yesterday a man and a woman walked out with 10 kits.

Thanks so much for the heads up! I've requested a kit from the IPO, so hopefully it will be in our room on the 16th! Getting so excited! So far, the secret is safe and the kids have no idea--it is getting harder, though!

Glad to hear all the good reports from those just getting back. Hope all who leave this week have magical trips!

Do you know how much the gingerbread houses are? I'm hoping we can get one next week.

Can anyone tell me what exactly the "garden View" at the YC wil consist of. For example, will we definitely NOT see a parking lot or roof?

I have only ever stayed at the YC with a water view (we were looking at lighthouse and Boardwalk resort). Unfortunately for us, it was May 2009 and poured ALL week. Only clear days were our first and last (check-out) day. Bad luck I guess. ;) It was an amazing view.

At the BC we had a Standard View that was an inside courtyard. we did have a full balcony though. Of course, all we could see was the other balconies in our courtyard. It was fine. Another BC stay we booked Water View and looked out at the volley ball nets. Most of the lake was blocked by the trees, but it too was fine.

For our May/June 2011 trip we went back and forth on the view and ultimately booked garden view. We just felt that we really don't utilize the balcony enough to be worth booking water. On the other hand, I wouldn't want a really, really bad view like a rooftop or garbage dumpster. :goodvibes

So, my question is: What exactly is a Graden View? Thanks for your help!

If you booked a garden view for a stay after January 1, 2011, you will see a garden or courtyard. You will not see a roof or parking lot. Starting January 1, we have three categories instead of two at both the YC and BC. We now have (1) standard view - which is a yucky view guaranteed (parking lot or roof ... something undesirable ... but for somebody like me who always has the drapes closed because the only time I'm in the room is to sleep or change clothes or shower, that's what I would book); (2) garden or courtyard view which is just what it says ... it's a nice view that isn't a water view; and (3) water view which would be a nice view of the lake or pool.

I can't wait! Hopefully we can take the heat in July! September sounds much better:thumbsup2

Our family stayed at the Beach Club in July 2009 and July 2010 and truly we didn't find the heat bad at all (the Trip Report title in my signature is tounge-in-cheek). Pixarmom gave a summary of some tips she received for dealing with a summer trip last year a few pages back.

If you can, get out to the parks early, preferably use the Extra Magic Hour in the morning, and return to the resort for a rest and/or swim in the afternoon.

You will love it!

I also have a question. I asked on another board, but didn't get a response. I'm booked at BC for next June. (Like you, Teena, I'm more of a standard view gal.) But all standards are booked YC/BC -in fact most deluxe resorts. I would have booked earlier, (I actually did) but we had to change our plans and bump the trip up two months. By the time I changed the only thing available in June was water view.

Is it likely that Disney is reserving some rooms to be released later? Or is my only hope to catch a cancellation?

Thanks for you help.

They could release more ... definitely keep checking all the way up to the day before you arrive. Personally, I'd probably check weekly until you get to around March. Then I'd check every other day or every day. If there is a convention scheduled for any time you are there ... even if it starts the day before you check-out, they normally reserve the standard rooms for the conventions since they pay such a discounted price. Also, keep an eye out for the garden view ... it's only a few dollars more per night than the standard view and alot less than a water view.

I would probably go into the reservation system on line and try to book a new reservation with a date ending maybe a day before you are checking out and see if a standard or garden view is available. If yes, then that most probably means a convention is coming in on that last day. Can you play around with the dates at all? If so, you might be able to come a day or two earlier and get a standard or garden view.

We arrive at BC on 12/18! Wow. We will be meeting up with another family arriving same day as us but we are flying and they are driving. It is their first trip to WDW. We are both staying CL.

Reading about the gingerbread kits and houses got me wondering...should I surprise them with a gingebread house in their room? I would consider getting one for our room too but they are driving back home on the 23rd and we are flying on to my inlaws, so maybe I could get a kit. Is there anything special about the premade houses and anything different with the kits except for the actual gingerbread? Will the kits stay fresh a while?

How did you like Parasailing??? I'm considering it as an option for our trip, but I'm scared of heights....so don't know if I'd enjoy it. I tried ziplining this summer over one of our Beautiful BC mountains...but chickened out when I got hooked to the zipline......fear of heights just gripped me hard and I couldn't make myself step off the platform!
I have always had and interest in Parasailing, but don't want to be paralyzed by fear at the last moment again!
Did you enjoy it??

I think DH enjoyed it a bit more than me, but it was fun. However, neither one of us have a fear of heights. That being said, you wouldn't have a chance to be paralyzed by fear on the takeoff because you are sitting on the boat, strapped into your harness, and are up in the air in seconds. If you want to come down sooner than you're supposed to, you wave your legs in a cross/uncross motion.

We did the deluxe, which was 600 feet in the air. I think that's a little scary, even if you don't have a fear of heights. You'd probably make it past the takeoff, but you would certainly be facing your fear after that. It is great that I can say I did it, though. Amazing experience. Just not sure if I'd do it again...was more about the view and the bragging rights than any kind of particularly fun ride feeling, at least for me. DH thinks it was awesome and would definitely do it again.

I start at 9:30 AM. I break for a 30 minute lunch at about 12:45 PM. I then have a 15 minute break at 4:00 PM and I leave at 5:45 PM.

I just dug out my winter coat for the walk from the cast parking lot to the BC. It's beginning to feel alot like Christmas!

Great meeting you today Teena! We just got back from some very cold EMH at MK, but we suited up and had a great time!

Off to meet the Mouse! I have an early flight and didn't sleep all night I'm just that excited :cool1::yay::cheer2:Beach club here we come

The premade houses are really beautiful and look larger than the kits. You can request a box for the already made houses and you can carry it on the airplane. Whichever you decide to get, I would call IP immediately and have them order them (with box if you get the one already made) and have it waiting for you in the room ... they are selling fast!

I purchased a premade one about two weeks before Christmas one year. It stayed fresh and we tore into it on Christmas Day and it was yummy and the bread soft!!

Yesterday, the head pastry chef came out for pictures and to answer questions and he told me they are having trouble keeping up with the demand this year.
