Hi everyone! :wave2:

I'm Marlton Mom and I'm active on the Dis Photography boards. I am thrilled to join you in all things Beach Club as we have a reservation for June 10th to the 20th.

I'd like to extend my gratitude :worship: for all of you who are helping to answer questions (ESPECIALLY TEENA!!!) and those of you thinking up questions to share with the rest of us. Chances are, if you need to know then someone else will too!

I am pleased to say that I have read through the entire thread and it took me DAYS and DAYS!! :scared: I was there with you in September when the pool was hot! I was there with you in December when the pool was not! Teena has been sick at least 3 times, gone on 2 cruises, been to Las Vegas at least 3 times, killed off a computer and her Bob bought a new Car! The thing that put the biggest smile on my face was the news that Teena and Bob are going to be GRANDPARENTS around the middle of July. 256 MILLION people want to know EXACTLY what KIND of BALCONY they are going to get,...... whether they should ask for a specific room by number (meh!) and just how many room requests they can specify (one or two are sensible).

Thanks to y'all I know that the walk to the IG at Epcot is 8-10 minutes, and you better know your mother's maiden name if you want to get into the StormAlong Bay pool AND that the Yacht club is also known as the Dark Side because Darth Vader prefers to stay there during any Star Wars conventions that might occur.

Whew! Ok, so it's only fair to introduce myself and my family. We are from Marlton NJ which is 11 miles east of Philadelphia. We are 50 minutes away from the Jersey shore and our absolute favorite place, besides Disney, is Ocean City, NJ, America's Family resort. No Snooki or Pauley or J Wow's to be seen! We run to Wawa for milk and eat at Ponzio's Diner (Olga's closed). We live in South Jersey, which has the well deserved reputation as the Garden part of the State. I grow heirloom tomatoes in the back yard in summer and the Jersey corn is picked fresh and early in the morning starting around July 4th at Eckert's Farm in Tabernacle.

This will be my 8th trip to the world, DH's 6th and DS's 4th.The dog has not managed to make the trip thus far. It's our first at Beach Club. :thumbsup2 Dh, Ds (12) and myself are looking forward to Star Wars Weekend, SAB, the Deluxe Dining plan and all the wonderful Disney Magic! I am a meticulous planner so I have a park touring plan and my ADR's all mapped out. Chances are, when everybody is "zigging" we'll be "zagging". My 12 year old son's favorite parks are Hollywood Studios, (He is a major Star Wars fan and he could give :darth: Darth Vader himself a run for the money with Star Wars Trivia) Magic Kingdom and Epcot. We love the fact that the Beach Club is so close to EPCOT and HS because, between me and my husband, the old grey hairs just ain't what they used to be!

Now for the questions. We would like to eat breakfast at the Captain's Grille. Is the Captains Grille on the Disney Dining plan? I have seen info that indicates it is /is not. Would it be advisable to book ADR's for breakfast at the Captains' Grille or can we just keep it simple and walk in with out a pin point schedule? Also what time does the Captain get up to make our breakfast dreams come true? We tend to be early risers and hit the parks at opening so we'll be one of "those people' all showered and shaved at 7:30 am until about mid week when we can't take it any more and resort to being normal again, (bed head, bad breath and shoes on the wrong feet).

Now on to my next question.... When is the last boat to BC from Hollywood Studios at night after HS closes and what happens if you miss it? Do they put you on a bus? I tend to linger after the park officially closes, taking pictures at night of the building facades. I know before when I have done this, cast members assure me that Disney Transportation will deliver every guest back to their hotel (and they did!). This time the transportation from DHS is by boat and I have read that the boats stop running approximately 30 mins after the park closes. So how do they get you back? (Edit = I'm not walking that far, that late at night)

Also I was told by 2 different cast members that all Beach Club rooms now have some kind of sofa in them. Is this true Teena? Having a nice comfy sofa is actually our most important request but the CM's said it wasn't necessary to specify that, as all the rooms had them. So we booked a Garden view room with a ground floor near (but not in ;) ) the laundry room request. Speaking of laundry, when we stayed at the Wilderness Lodge the laundry room was a ZOO and DH wound up going at 4:30 am to wash the laundry. Is it like that at Beach Club??

And finally (for now LOL!) Teena, is it true you like Tastykakes? If so what kind??? Do tell!...and what about Bob, does he like them too? Marlton NJ is 11 mile east of Philadelphia ----->Tastykake HEADQUARTERS!! What part of South Jersey did you formerly live in?

Ok people, Dish!! Lets hear it. Who else is Going June 10th to the 20th?

Welcome Marlton Mom! I don't have answers to your dining plan question (we haven't used the dining plan since Feb. 09) or a detailed answer to your daybed/sofa question (we always get one because we are a family of 5, but I've seen lots of photos and read reports from smaller families in renovated rooms without the daybed/sofa.)

As for the transportation back home to BC from DHS, we have experience with that one! We've been among the last to leave DHS some evenings, and if we don't see a boat in the dock right away, we love to walk back to BC. It takes us less than 20 minutes and we enjoy walking through the Boardwalk on the way back. I bet someone else has a more official answer, but just wanted to mention the possibility of the walk home!

Thanks for joining us! :wizard:

Hi neighbor!! :wave2: We're in Cherry Hill!
Funny, I live 2 mins from Ponzio's and have never eaten there in my life. lol!
Do love PB Tastykakes. mmmmmm.... :lovestruc and can't stand that Jersey Shore show. Couldn't be further from the truth of life here. :sad2: Aren't they from NY? :headache:
Have fun planning! :goodvibes

Hi everyone,

First of all, I am new to the DIS and enjoying all of the great info here. My family of five (DD's 12 & 8; DS 6) will be traveling to WDW in September 2011. We have only been as a family once before (five years ago at the CR). BC has always been my dream resort but I need to justify to DH that is worth the extra $ (about $800) for the week. For those of you who have experienced both, what say you?

Thanks!:goodvibes

Welcome 5westbrooks! We haven't stayed at CR or POR, but we have stayed at other MK area resorts several times each - WL and Poly. I've also stayed at CSR several times and CBR and Sports once each.

We love the BC theme, grounds, room decor, SAB, proximity to other resorts like YC and BW and overall atmosphere. But one of our very favorite things about BC - and one of the reasons we believe it's worth the cost - is the ability to walk to two parks (both Epcot and DHS) and all the dining options available at Epcot (especially convenient if you have park hoppers.) We love to spend the day at one park, hop to Epcot for dinner and then walk right out the international gateway to our room in the evening. No waiting for a bus, monorail or even boat! It just can't be beat at the end of a fun and busy day. We just stayed at Poly again last week and loved it, but BC has the best location and transportation options for our family (also a family of five, and our three boys range in age from pre-school to pre-teen.)

Someone else may be able to provide a more direct comparison between CR or POR and BC, but I hope this helps until then! :wizard:

Does booking a Water/Pool view room guarantee that you'll be able to see the fireworks at Epcot? If not, what other views could I end up with booking that category?

Marlton Mom

My South Jersey history: My Dad was born and raised in Cape May and of course we spent all summers there. My Mom was born and raised in Palmyra. I was born and raised in Palmyra and lived in Mt. Laurel until Bob got transferred to Harrisburg (right before Jeanne was born). Bob was born and raised in Camden County (of course us Burlington County girls weren't allowed to go near Camden County boys but things happen). The things I miss most now that I live in Florida: (1) Jersey corn, (2) Jersey tomatoes, (3) Tastycakes (my favorites are chocolate tandycakes, coconut juniors and chocolate juniors and Bob's favorites are peanut butter tandycakes and jelly krimpets), (4) REAL Philly Cheesesteaks, and last but not least (5) the Philly pretzels that they sell on the street corners right over the bridge.

Captain's Grill is definitely participating in the dining plan. I believe they open at 7:30 AM. You should make reservations if you know you want to eat there ... just in case some days are more crowded than others.

Are you staying at the BC or YC? If you are staying at the BC, unless you crawl, it's only a 3-4 minute walk from the BC lobby to Epcot. I timed myself a few months ago and it took me 3 minutes and 22 seconds and I'm old (but I have very long legs)!

Boats run up to an hour (or so they tell us) after the Studios close. You can walk back also. It's a tad over a mile but it's a beautiful walk down the canal by the Boardwalk.

Don't know what CMs you talked to about the room categories at the BC but they definitely do NOT all have daybeds in them. You probably talked to CMs at the Reservation Center. Half of them have never even been to WDW or even know where the BC is. If they would take the time to pull up the information all CMs have on their computers, they would see that in each category (standard, garden or water), we have many different bedding configurations and definitely not all rooms have daybeds .... in fact, I'd bet only about 50% of them do. I assume you are talking about the BC and not the BCV (which is a whole different animal). At the BC, there are many different types of bedding. You can certainly request anything you want as far as bedding but the only thing you can be guaranteed is you'll get bedding that will fit your party mix. There are rooms with one queen, there are rooms with two queens, there are rooms with one queen and a chair bed, there are rooms with a king only, there are rooms with a king and a daybed (but only a few) and of course there are rooms with two queens and a daybed. I'm not sure I'm understanding what your request is ... you want to be on the ground floor near a laundry room? The BC isn't that large. The largest laundry facility is a separate building across from the quiet pool. There is a little laundry room next to 1532. I think you might want to look at the room map at http://www.disneyzone.net/ResortMaps/bcfirstfloor.jpg. See where 1532 is. Then look where it says "quiet pool here" ... that's where the larger laundry facility is. Personally, I would prefer to be closer to the lobby ... which is closer to SAB, the restaurants, the YC, the boat to the Studios, the bus stop. Remember, the BC isn't all that big. I obviously never do my laundry there so I have no idea if it's a zoo. But I'm sure others have and will advise you on that. If you want a sofa/day bed in your room and your party mix is 3, then please don't be upset if you don't get one. These rooms (remember, only about 50% of the rooms have sofa/day beds in them) are held for families of 5 ... they have to have these rooms, so if we are pretty full and have lots of families of 5 or even families of 4 where the children are older boy and girl, they will get those rooms first. Now, to even further confuse the sofa/day bed situation: Half the sofa/day beds in the BC are the old day beds that are not comfortable (in my opinion - and you said you want a comfy sofa) to sit in and only fit to sleep in a person about 5'4" and under. The other half of the sofa/day beds at the resort are the new variety and are very comfortable and will fit a tall adult. Hopefully some other guests here will also add their comments about the differences in these two types .. they might think they are both uncomfy. Unfortunately you cannot request which one you want because it doesn't tell us on the room description on the computer, which type is in which room ... it only says daybed ... it doesn't say new or old style daybed.

Hope all that helps.

If you are talking BC, doubtful you will see the fireworks at Epcot. You will either see the lake and Boardwalk or one of the pools.

Thank you for your response! I think being able to walk to Epcot and DHS is a huge selling point for me. I also know that my kids would love the SAB - we are all sold just have to convince DH.

Ah, here come the Tastycakes again! As a hillbilly, Teena had to let me in on what they actually were, although if I had simply asked the mother of one of my techs (born and raised in Pennsylvania) she would have schooled me as well.

We'll be there June 15th through the 25th. Just look for the tall gray haired guy in a Razorback shirt.

Having stayed at BC with a then-recently-potty-trained child in the past, we are familiar with the laundry facilities! :) We used both the poolside laundry and the little laundry room, and even during peak season, we've always been able to get a machine and a dryer when we needed it. But we tend to do small loads of laundry either very late at night or very early in the morning, so that may help.

At BC, you're either close to the lobby, close to the exit near the IG at Epcot or in the middle between the two. Last March, we were closer to the IG. In July, we were closer to the lobby. Both were great and had their own advantages, and both were convenient to the laundry facilities!

(3) Tastycakes (my favorites are chocolate tandycakes, coconut juniors and chocolate juniors and Bob's favorites are peanut butter tandycakes and jelly krimpets).

Teena, don't know if you heard but Tastycakes announced yesterday they are avoiding bankruptcy and have found a way to keep the doors open for now. I guess they really miss you up there.

We tend to be early risers and hit the parks at opening so we'll be one of "those people' all showered and shaved at 7:30 am until about mid week when we can't take it any more and resort to being normal again, (bed head, bad breath and shoes on the wrong feet).

Marlton Mom

Hi Marlton Mom- Thanks for the introduction and your awesome summary of the activity on this thread! It cracked me up! :rotfl: If you are jonesing for some more Yacht&Beach Club drama, go back to the previous thread and relive Disneymomx7's summer drama which included broken limbs, broken plans and evil air carriers.

I have posted a link about dinner at the Captain's Grille from my trip report.

We really liked it. It is definitely on the dining plan, as Teena indicated. We haven't tried the breakfast, but I would be very surprised if you needed a reservation for an early morning breakfast there. Unless they were overrun with families who were trying to get into the Cape May Character breakfast without reservations. Teena, do you know how busy it gets over there in the morning?

According to the menu and info listed in the DIS dining forum, the restaurant opens at 7 am, but I don't know if that is accurate or not. The menu for both the buffet and a la carte offerings look great!

Uh oh! I thought I had a handle on our upcoming trip - but I didn't realize there were old & new style daybeds. We have booked a Deluxe CL Room because it is my understanding that they ALL have daybeds, correct? Since there are only a few of these rooms - maybe someone knows if they have the new or old daybed style? My DD13 (5'4") was planning on sleeping on the daybed so she doesn't have to share a bed with her sister  - I would love to be able to tell her that the Deluxe CL Rooms have the larger daybed. Teena? Anyone?

Teena, don't know if you heard but Tastycakes announced yesterday they are avoiding bankruptcy and have found a way to keep the doors open for now. I guess they really miss you up there.

Oh no ... I had no idea they were in trouble.

OK, this helps. There are ONLY six of those rooms. I have been in two recently and one has the new and one has the old. I can guarantee you that all six of those rooms have daybeds, but not all of the six rooms have the new daybed.

Something else to think about: Since you are staying club level and paying for all that nice food (especially breakfast), in my opinion and probably most of our Y&B people here will agree, having the deluxe dining plan is overkill. You are getting a fantastic breakfast each morning in the lounge ... this is one of the things you are paying for ... and since you are planning on being at the resort some and enjoying SAB and all the wonderful activities, you'll probably be there to eat the appetizers and snacks, etc. To have the deluxe dining, honestly, you are either not going to take advantage of the lounge and then why bother paying for it by booking a club level room, or you will end up with loads of snack and table service credits left and not used. I am certainly not trying to change your plans or anything but in my experience this is big time overlapping (Deluxe Dining and Club Level) ... I'd switch to the regular dining plan and for the signature restaurants you have booked, the money you are saving with regular dining plan versus deluxe dining plan (times four(?) people), it would pay for the cost of the signature restaurant dinners. And you certainly don't need to eat at the Captain's Grill for breakfast with the great breakfast they serve in the lounge (and we even have eggs ... yippeee protein).

Also, your room request should definitely be changed. There is only one deluxe room on the first floor. If you want first floor, all you need to put is "first floor requested". It's a one in six chances you will get it though. That one deluxe room on the first floor will have to have the occupants leaving on your check-in day. We have guests here on this thread that have stayed in most of the six deluxe rooms and will tell you that getting a certain one is very difficult. We certainly try but there are only six so the only way it can happen is if it is vacant on the day you check in. Since you read the entire thread, you already have the room numbers of the six rooms, but if you need them again, let us know. (P.S. My favorite is 3691 but if you ask the dissers here that have stayed in these six rooms, I'll bet you'll get all six rooms listed as their favorites.)

We are getting ready to book our summer vacation at the YC :cool1:

Last year at the YC we ended up with a room that we loved but may not have been everyones cup of tea :goodvibes and our trying to figure out if it would be considered a STD or garden view room :confused3

It was a corner room where you could walk outside and then around the corner to the right and be at the quiet pool.

Thanks for any help :goodvibes

I wanted to bump this question up before it was lost in this quick moving thread. Love all the info on this thread :worship:

The room is probably not that popular with most - out of the way location but we loved it :lovestruc

Spoisal - I have to agree with everything Teena said. CL and Deluxe Dining are, IMHO, way too much food. The CL lounge puts out a terrific breakfast - oatmeal, cereal, bagels, croissants, muffins, different breads, cut up and whole fruit, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, juice and coffee. Also they have great evening appetizers, so if you book a regular dining plan you wouldn't have to worry about not getting the appetizers on the deluxe plan.

We stayed in a deluxe cl room in 2009 - 1557. It is right near the quiet pool and laundry room. I do laundry either late at night or early in the am and never had a problem getting a washer.

Also the Captain's Grille can get busy some mornings so I always make and ADR, even for breakfast.

We're staying cl for 15 nights and I only booked 3 breakfasts - Crystal Palace (tradition), Cape May Buffet ( our favorite) and Captain's Grille.

I'm asking this question for a "friend". No, really!

Can you bring alcohol into the Solarium at the Beach Club? A bottle of beer and a book? Someone on another thread was looking for a quiet place inside to read and enjoy a bottle of beer while the rest of the family is off doing something else.

I have only been to the Solarium in flat form.

Thanks!
