2010: What's on the Emerald Aisle?

Anyone catch what was on the executive aisle lately? :tink:

We don't arrive until Sept. 29th and we are Executive Aisle members. I'll post back when I return on Oct. 5th. I'm not taking my netbook on this trip since we're not staying in our DVC resort (free internet). It's only 2 of us on this trip, so I'm guessing we'll see lots of large vehicles since that seems to be a Murphy's Law for us.

Same dates and we're at pop ! also just 2 of us this trip, i'm easily amused and thought it was funny ! :rotfl:

Anyway, I will report back on the 5th too !

Don't remember seeing any ford's in July, Not sure anyone else know?

I haven't seen an escape, but we had the Ford Edge in March, and had a Taurus in December, January, and April/May. So they do indeed have Ford's sometimes. We'll be back in a couple of weeks and will post back. We enjoyed the Ford Edge. We have always owned a Ford Explorer, so have a mini version was nice for the 2 of us.

On the link to join the Emerald Aisle is says that your membership is good for the "calendar year." Does that mean if is join now, that it expires in December 31, 2010? So if we aren't going until January, and I don't rent a car between now and the end of the year, that my membership will expire?

Also, if I get there, and there is nothing on the Aisle that will work for us, what options do we have?

I know there use to be a free membership through mousesavers.com and I'm sure that is how most of us joined. It seems to be a lifetime membership (or 2037). You might want to research this on Mary's site.

I'm interested in this too. Would we just go to a counter and upgrade? I imagine that could get costly, because you have no idea what you'd be charged for the upgrade, and you'd have no opportunity to use coupons or codes (especially if you wanted a minivan and the codes you used to book the midsize Emerald Aisle weren't valid for minivans).

You either have to take a vehicle that is on the Aisle or go to the counter and pay for an upgrade to a larger car, simple as that. If you require a larger vehicle, then your best bet is to reserve a car from that class, then you would just go to that specific aisle (eg. if you need a mini-van, I wouldn't chance one being on the aisle but book a mini-van, then when you arrive, you'd go to the mini-van aisle, rather than the Emerald Aisle)

You can go to the intermediate line and take any car from there. If your in the executive club > then you can take a full sized car off the full sized line. But, you are not elgible to go take a van, or suv without going to the counter and changing your ressie.
Of course, there is always the option of going all the way through the airport and check out the other side a or b. See if what your looking for is available?
Another option sometimes available is when you get there and it is completely empty. >> then talk to one of the garage guys ask for the lead, or manager and he usually says "take anything you want, but convertible, or suv.... ." This has happened to us on more than 1 occassion when we flew in very late. [We then begged for the convertible and scored ;)]

Good luck, mky:cutie:

Sorry, are you saying you would book 2 reservations, 1 for Emerald Aisle and then 1 for Emerald Reserve (say for a full-size) and then only use the EA reservation if you get something good from that aisle?

We arrived on Sunday, Sept 5 at around 1:30 PM. Only Impalas, Sebrings and mid-size cars. No vans or SUVs. We were hoping for a van, but we had to settle for an Impala (DW drives one). With 4 grown-ups for ten days, it was tight for our luggage but we managed. Getting around was no problem, except when we moved from the treehouse to BLT.

When we returned the car yesterday I looked over to the EA and there were both vans and SUVs. Go figure, huh.

BTW, this was on "A" terminal side.

Thanks for the update. Yep, I call that my Murphy's law. When it's the 2 of us we always will find a van, when we need something bigger, forget it.

No ... With Emerald Aisle, if you are an Emerald Club member, you would go ahead and make a reservation for a midsize car. When you arrive, you would go to the Emerald Aisle to pick your vehicle. Sometimes there are larger vehicles on the aisle than midsize (suv, minivan, full size), but you are only guaranteed a midsize. So basically the other person was asking if they booked a midsize car which entitled them to use the Emerald Aisle, if they got there and there and they didn't like any of the cars on the aisle what was their options.

Because with Emerald Aisle, you are only entitled to a midsize, if you don't like any of the cars (i.e., there aren't any larger vehicles), you can't just go to the full size aisle, or the minivan aisle and pick a different vehicle ... they would need to go to the counter and pay for an upgrade. If you see a larger car (or suv, or minivan) on the aisle, you can take one, but you can't go to the full size or minivan aisle and take one just because there isn't one on the Emerald Aisle.

OK, that was my understanding as well. We'll try and play the "better than mid-size" lottery and hope we get something good. If not, then an Impala or Malibu would not be terrible. Hoping for an HHR or a minivan/small SUV if they magically appear :)

Keep in mind that an Impala is a full size not a mid-size, so no guarantee that it will be in the aisle, unless you can choose from the Executive aisle too.

Thanks for the Executive Aisle update. I'll post back what I see after our trip on the 29th. Since we are Exec Aisle members too, we do tend to check out both sides/aisle (and sometimes both A and B). Since it's only the 2 of us, I'm sure we'll find something suitable from side A (Jetblue).

That is good for the SW non-early bird selection. I flew SW for my Jan/March/April trips this year and never purchased the early bird either and always managed an A boarding pass on all 3 trips. However, in July SW stopped flying non-stop out of Dulles, which ends our usage of SW now. So it's Jetblue for us all of the time -- but I do love Jetblue, so it's all good. I did like the very early SW flights out of Dulles, so we found ourselves flying them down and Jetblue home.

We landed at 4:30pm and after getting our luggage from the SW side on the A side of the airport, we walked over to National Aisle and found lots of Impalas and Chargers. There was a HHR, Jeep Patriot and a 2-door pickup truck at the end of the aisle. We were about to take the Patriot when I noticed a Dodge Journey - we ended up taking the Journey as we wanted to test drive a crossover SUV anyways :)

Good luck with the Emerald Aisle lottery...
