Charles, I just read a post by the IMTX RD on the Beginner Triathlete forums where he says "most likely 1 loop bike...run will be either 2 or 3 loops"
I had plotted a two loop lollipop course - now need to look at a 1 loop lollipop layout. I'll bet we get a crack at a few nice rollers
I'm doing my first real sprint tri in two weeks from today.
A really nervous tri beginner!
Once you put your head down in the water and start swimming, the rest will take care of itself. Good luck and enjoy!
BTW, will DH be doing this one and give you the chance to go 2 for 2!![]()
Thanks!
LOL! I was a competitive swimmer so you would think that the swim would be the least of my worries. Nope! I hate swimming in open water - a fish might get me!
This is the Tri-for-the Cure so no men. Poor DH, he will have to live with the humiliation for a while still.
To be fair on our in-door tri, I beat him in points and only because of the swim. The results were based on points which were awarded for how far you swam, biked, and ran in the time frame. This is how it played out:
10 minute swim in a 25 meter pool: Me - 23 laps, DH - 15 (this is where I killed him as I received 96 out of 100 points for this).
30 minute bike on a spin bike: me 13.7 miles, DH 14.3 miles
20 minute run on a treadmill: I hit the stop button really hard and it cleared out my distance. The girl next to me said she saw that I was at 1.98 miles with a minute to go so they gave me the 2 miles. DH went 2.2 miles. I know I was over 2 miles when I hit the stop button, but since I screwed up I went with what they gave me.
So, while it wasn't really a tri, it was a great way to be introduced to the sport.
Thanks for the music hints, everyone.
Now I have a few questions that you may laugh at while you answer:
1. I did a 1/2 mile ows yesterday on a marked course which is 75 meters long for each length. My time was 11 and 1/2 minutes but I was the only one in the water. There were waves caused by jet skis. How much time do you think I should add to this to set a realistic time goal for the swim? I would like to finish the swim under 15 minutes but I don't know if that is realistic with other swimmers on the course.
2. You can laugh at this one: I am blind without my glasses and I am terrified that I won't be able to find my bike after the swim. What tricks do you have to help you find your transition spot? There are 3000 in the Tri-for-the-Cure so there will be more than a few bike racks.
Thanks!
