2010 news from the Magic

Tammy, when I win the lottery, I'll join you! After the Baltic we can throw in a cottage in England for a week with Monica, then tour our way up the island, finishing with that castle in Scotland I found, where a dozen or so of our DIS friends can join us for a week. Then we pop over to Ireland, look around, and fly back to the US on Aer Lingus. That should pretty much fill up the summer, eh?

The other thing is that I was looking at August as opposed to June, and the flights are more expensive then.

If all of the rumors pan out, we'll most likely do one of the Baltic cruises.

The reason behind the August flights being so much more expensive is that its down to the summer school holidays.

We break up late July for 6 weeks and go back early Sept.

In June the majority of Europe is still at school.

Incidently thats why I dont think I can do the Baltic which I am really upset about missing

Just going to wait and see - if it is Barcelona again will not bother but if it is Eastern Med definitely interested.

My friend has just returned on NCL from Dover, Kent to the Baltic and they had two days in St. Petersburg. She said it was beautiful but the cruise was so cold they could not use the swimming pool and a waste of time for anyone having a balcony. Winter must be coming early this year I fear. She left UK on the 4th September and had to buy winter clothes during the cruise.

The one way price difference was only $100 between June and August - not too bad.

I would prefer to go to school into July and then get out more during the year. That will never happen where I live though. Makes me want to move to a county will year round school.

I have to say that I'm truly puzzled by the possibility of the April and Sept. T/A Repos. I mean in 2007, they were practically giving cabins away on the two Repo cruises. I would think the weather in April would even be colder than the May crossing in 2007.

I guess there is a method to their madness!

I'm guessing that Dis is willing to take a loss on the TAs to reap the increased profits from the Med and Baltic itineraries.

I think you are close to the truth, DCL will price the repos very keenly, they will be a good bargain on a per day cost, they will add some special entertainment and maybe a surprise port, but the 'main feature is the MED cruises and the Baltic and they intend to make there money then.

I think the 14 night repos will be cheaper than the 11 night Med cruises and the 12 night Baltics.

our K-12 school district has spring break last week on march..
so the kids will be back at school

My little one will be getting ready for AP exams and DS#1 will be getting ready for finals for college.. so if we do it, it looks like we can't take the kids.. but then we didn't take them on the panama canal either.. so just me and hunny. is there a downside to that???


Oh yeah.. DH doesn't want to do a repo again..so I guess i'll go with Jackie on her cruise/land trip..

If the new ship is on time, the Magic might stay in LA, going South on the Mexican Rivera cruises and north, on a little repo to Vancouver or Seattle and Alaska.

Then back to LA later and more Mexican Rivera cruises.

I think we are seeing the start of a new very 'bold' DCL, after the lackluster schedules for 2009, which didn't generate a positive spark of enthusiasm at the start, we are seeing a far longer outing for the Magic away nearly 5 months and at least three different types of cruises.

I think 2011, will see more of this, with Panama, West coast USA, Mexican Rivera and Alaska.

They look like they are paving the way for the Magic in LA all year, The Wonder having long summers in Europe, and maybe Winters in the Caribbean, with the new ships taking over existing routes.

I do agree, it is necessary, and I just wonder why they got it wrong for 2009, ok they are now selling and the prices are going up, bu they didnt set the world alight, and didnt open to a mad dash like West Coast or the Med.
