2010 news from the Magic

I found this tidbit about excursions for the European 2010 cruises --

"Along with the usual Disney onboard activities, the line is working on unique excursions such as dressing kids as princes and princesses before taking them to a castle for a visit and a feast. " princess:

Sounds too cool!

But we are laboring over strategies.... to book with points, to book direct and transfer to points, to transfer a dummy date cruise, to wait until we are onboard in June...sheesh! What is the best way??

I say, sell (rent/trade) your points and book with cash - most economical -saves you many many points. Then when you're on the ship in June, check the pricing then too. If its cheaper, book it and cancel the original.

These prices are high.....the Baltic ones are as you say over the top.

Yes, they are high, but not really that much higher than the 07 Med prices. I felt like the Med was overpriced too - thank God for cat 12!!

I would LOVE to do one of the Christmas cruises, but my family (mother, grandmother, aunt, etc) would KILL me if I went away for Christmas! Any ideas? Does Santa visit the ship on Christmas day? How do people work that out with the little ones?

Oh good strategy....but how do you sell/rent/trade -- is it complicated?

Probably a long story to answer here, but I've heard of people doing better on the cruises that way. And for these cruises I think it's definitely a good thing to save where you can!

Go to the rent/trade section under DVC on the Disboards to see people's posts. Earlier on this thread, I had looked at points vs cash for a summer 09 cruise. The points required for a family of 4 were around 900, but the cruise only cost $7,000 cash. So, you could sell about 700 points (at $10 per point) to get the $7,000 for your cruise vs using 900 points to book your cruise.

Could someone tell me if DCL has done an extended day (special) cruise over Christmas/New Years before? The reason I am asking is I am hopeful that someone would remember approximate starting prices. I realize that it would cost more now, but at least I would have a general idea. I hate not having ANY idea at all as to what those two cruises might cost.

We are considering the Westbound TA or one of the holiday cruises. Without having an idea of cost on the holiday cruises, I have no idea what to tell my TA to do on Monday. We have a dummy date that we want to transfer but are not sure which cruise to transfer to.

Any help at all??????????

We did the seven night Christmas cruise this past Christmas (2007). This was a transferred cruise so we had our 10% off plus our $200 obc. This was booked opening day (18 months in advance). We had a secret porthole room (category 10). 2 adults and 1 ten year old. We paid $4,422.69 cruise only without insurance or the fuel surcharges they are adding to reservations now.

I hope this helps

Thanks, yes that helps.

Also, is there anyone on this board that was on the 2006 10night sailings that might possibly remember or have their old info on pricing?

We'll be on the Magic on October 18th. Does anyone know whether it would be cheaper to book a 2010 cruise on the 14th or should we wait untill we're on board? I'm concerned that we won't be able to get two cat 11 connecting rooms if we wait. Our budget will be tight so we'll need the OBC. Is it $200 per room for the longer cruises like it is for the regular 7 day? Also, is the deposit more for the 2010 cruises? Would the half off deposit deal apply if we booked on board or only online? I know I'm asking a lot of questions but I just know you guys will have the answers!!! Thanks in advance :)

Hi, It was in a promo article sent to me from a travel site, but i think it came from some Q&A at the press conference originally. At least that's what someone else was saying, lol. It's a reputable source tho, and it sounded so cool.

Makes me wish I had little ones again!!

ps we are going to try to book the June 12 baltics too! :thumbsup2

My TA has phoned DCL several times over the last 24 hours and they have said that the Christmas & New Year prices won't be release until Oct 14th!

I have asked her to book me a Cat 6 room - butI have no idea how much it will cost - I could be in for a BIG shock!!:lmao:

amystevekai&bump:

If you were a guessing person, what would you guess your cost to be? We are also seriously considering the Christmas cruise but I am totally oblivious to what the cost might be.:scared:

Ok...two questions...

1.anyone know when the DVC points will be out for the new 2010 cruises?:confused3

2. My daughter wants to bring a friend...(told her that was ok but I'm not paying!!:lmao: )
If I book the 4 of us on DCL site...as if paying cash..pay a deposit..and if her friend can't raise the money...and we haven't paid in full..can I cancel only her friend?..will I get the deposit back for her? Also suppose her friend changes by then...will I be able to change the name on the reservation?

Or does anyone have an idea how I can do this, just in case they both come? or even worse change their plans...after all my daughter will be almost 21 then and her friend will be 20!!!

You can cancel anything or any person up until 3 months prior, so you really don't have anything to lose by booking her friend. Don't know about name changes though - sorry!

I'm wondering about 2010 Christmas pricing too - I think the 10/11 night trip will probably mimic or be fairly close to the Med pricing. :scared1:

Whats up with the repo's being during the school year? By that time my wife will be a teacher and we will have to follow here schedule. I really want to go in Sept but it doesn't look like that is going to happen. I don't care to spend 3K for us to fly over there. It would have been nice fly over and take the ship back.

My thoughts exactly! Oh well - on to something else. The Christmas cruise is looking very good!

thanks Jodie,

Still thinking about "renting" out my points like you told me too...I will keep checking for a new point list for 2010 but will probably book the 4 of us on the dcl side of it...I know people have been talking about the price of deposits and I have never paid attention because I have always used points...what are the costs of a deposit anyway....(sorry if this is a repeat question)

I think if you book online, you get a discount on your deposit - half of the normal deposit amount (not sure how long this promo will last though). Deposits are normally $250 for a 7 nighter. For one of the longer cruises, I think someone said $500 per person???

The repos weren't that popular last time (they were practically giving the Eastbound cruise away) but the Med cruises were popular. This way they can spend more time in Europe.

It used to be $500. For these cruises it will be $600.
