2010 Mom's Panel Results along with lists of Round 2 & 3 Participants

Oh I agree! It's SUCH a Disney-thing to do. You'd never expect it and you'd never know it was there AND you'd miss it if you weren't there at the right time. One of my favorite Disney moments period!

a

So I'm not the only one who thinks twinkling sidewalks is unmistakably magical? I don't know which imagineer came up with that detail, but it really does something to keep you "in it" even though you're really tired by that time of the day.

Hey everyone. Those of you that follow me on twitter and facebook may have seen my tweet earlier about some really bad news in our family. I figure with all the support I've gotten here it couldn't hurt to share what was going on here. DH lost his job today. :sad2: Things have been really tight already around here and we are definitely not in any position to be without income at all. However, I have faith that everything happens for a reason and something will come through for him. He's been networking and starting his search from the time he came home today. Any extra thoughts or prayers you could send his way would be so very appreciated. Thank you all... :goodvibes

Hey Zanna, I am so sorry to hear about your DH losing his job! Lots of big hugs to you ! Keep the faith. I am sure something extraordinary is coming its way!

Oh NO! Zanna, I'm so sorry. Here's a little of :wizard: from our family to yours.

Hidden Mickey's: I have always noticed them here and there but never played along in the HM game. Now, my DS(4) is all about finding Mickey Mouse everywhere! He saw an antenna ball the other day and got so excited. I make MM shaped pancakes for him every weekend and a few weekends ago I put mini chocolate chips in them, I couple dropped in jus the right pattern and as he ate his breakfast he screamed with excitement at the chocolate chip Mickey in his pancake!

This year we stayed at the Beach Club Resort and it was fun finding the Mickey's hidden in the wallpaper, shower curtain, carpet. I almost started to think that I was seeing Mickey's everywhere! :rotfl:

Zanna,
I too am sorry to hear about your DH losing his job. It's all around us and it can be very unsettling, but your family is strong and I just know good things are in store for you both. Just wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you.

Ok, I have a question for the 3rd rounders..

Up to this point, what has been the best part of this experience for you?

For me, having been this far once before, the best part for me has been the honor of it all. I know SO many people, who are as obsessed about "all things Mouse" as I am. I have always worn my heart on my sleeve and am an outgoing, passionate person. I truly love helping other people...and the dream of being able to do that on a grand-scale...it's indescribable.

Having made it to the finals twice ('09 & '10) and semi-finals once ('08), I have poured my heart into 15 questions/short essays. Just being able to share that with Disney, and know that they were touched in some way by ME and my Disney love...that is an incredible honor to me.

This year in particular, it's been taken even a notch higher for me. When I hung up from my interview last year, I just remember thinking "can I have a do-over please??" There was so much I had forgotten to say or wished I could have changed...and I was a nervous wreck and didn't get to really enjoy it. I told myself that *if* I was blessed enough to make it this far again, I was going to thoroughly enjoy it. I was going to just be Kaylene, and not a deer caught in the headlights.

In the end, no matter what happens, I feel very proud, very blessed and very honored. I've made some amazing friendships through this process...and it makes me so happy to know that I have all of you. :grouphug: I know that on Tuesday if I don't get the call I'm dreaming of, you will all support me :grouphug: and envelope me in your love and friendships. I also know if I do get that call, you'll be right beside me, cheering me on. :cheer2:

SO, long story short...the best part of it all has been intangible things that I can't quite put my finger on, but that have made it unforgettable for me :cloud9: .

Todays general question is:

Today we are going to discuss Hidden Mickeys. Tell us when you first learned about them, where your favorite one is located, and then share something special about finding hidden Mickeys

Hi Kim!

Wow! A bit of an unexpected twist in that! I like it and am intrigued and I urge everyone to not just blow off that first clause and think about it! As I shall do! When did I first learn about Hidden Mickey's? Wow!

:)

Jud

Hidden Mickey's...love that one....but like most I am not sure when I first knew about them.

BUT...I do know I started telling my kids about them before our first trip. It was so much fun looking for them and the kids are GREAT a spotting them. My oldest had spotted a few and so did my youngest, but by the end of the day my middle child had found none. So we were back at Pop in the food court trying to decided what to eat when my middle baby let out a big " MOOOOOMMMM!!!! You're on the hidden Mickey!" So I looked down and there it was under my feet...he was soooo excited so that will remain my favorite of all time. Not the hardest location, but I will always remember the moment he found his first!

I remember hearing the story that there was a hidden mickey placed there by castmembers, then removed, then people missed it so much and asked about it that Imagineers put the 'official' one back in place. I just thought that was so cool and we began our quest for more Hidden Mickeys from that point on.

That is not an 'urban legend'.

Hidden Mickey's are (or were?) not official or sanctioned, and were put in by the folks who actually built or painted or decorated the attractions as 'inside jokes'. Some are simply an arrangement or positioning of items to create an image or shadow that creates the three circle image. An example is certain tables and chairs near Space Mountain that will be sometimes arranged by a CM to cast a HM shadow in the high sun.

The concrete 'battle' I was told of took place in the dining room of the Haunted Mansion, where each night one of the cleaners would arrange a place setting to create an HM with a dinner plate and two smaller plates.

In the morning, the inspecting Imaginear would carefully rearrange the setting to where it 'should' be.

This was countered at one point with the entire table's place settings being arranged to create HM's.

This was countered with glue.

Mediation took place, and it was agreed that one setting would be allowed to be an HM and nothing else altered from the way the Imaginears had it set.

Thus, if you look very carefully, you will find one- and only one- HM on the table in the dining room at the Haunted Mansion.

Just typed a whole long post, and deleted it by mistake

Hi Suey,

Just on the off chance that it could help and that you or others might not know, in such a case, you can right click and <undo> and maybe get it back. This works in notepad, WORD, Yahoo mail compose, and many other pgms, including this very 'compose' box.

that is my DD's favorite HM...points it out every time!

I stayed at the Beach Club Villa's this past weekend and found one of those carpeted Mickey's.

See if you can!

If not, click on this photo, and go to the next photo in the album!

Wow Jud, thanks for the pic. I have never noticed that HM before!:goodvibes

I first heard of Hidden Mickeys on this board in 2004. I guess that makes me a HM newbie! DD and I took a mother daughter trip that year and we had so much fun looking for them.

I think my favorite one is made of fishing bobbers in Splash Mountain. :woohoo:
I sometimes see one in the hanging paper lanterns on SM.

I also love the one on the table in HM. But I am often distracted by the champaign toasting couple on the chandelier in the same dining room. I swear as a child, I guess in DL, that I saw that couple and thought they were naked!:rotfl:

My family now loves to search for HM's and last year for Christmas my kids got me a spoon rest that is not made by Disney but it certainly has a HM on it. The kids said they saw it and just had to get it for me!

Speaking of Christmas, have any of you seen the Hallmark ornaments for this year? There are some very cute Mickey inspired ones. It will be hard to pick which ones to get this year.

Hi Kim!

I am beginning to think that I might have first heard of them on the MouseForLess group, DisneyDollarless at the time, but haven't spotted the exactitude of it yet... equally thinking I might have simply spotted one in real life and pursued the matter.

I think my favorite one is made of fishing bobbers in Splash Mountain. :woohoo:

Ya know, I have known of that one for years and never been able to spot it! Have tried endlessly! I did find my own in there once though! Have a pic of it in one of my albums... and inquired, was confirmed, rode again to get the photo. Was also told that there are only 3 in Splash! That amazed me! I figured there would be at least a dozen! So many opportunities!

Hmmmm... sometimes Hidden Mickey's (and other things) are in the eye of the beholder, eh? hehehehee...

Oh, my Zanna! I really hope your DH finds work soon, and better than before.

Just had to share...

I told my 3yo daughter I was talking to people on my computer about Disney. (She got up and started dancing...which is what she does everytime we say Disney...) Anyway, after her dance she said, "Mommy, are you going to be a Disney Mom?" Meaning, the panel, of course.

I said, "I don't know. There are lots of other moms out there. We'll see. I might not."

She leaned against me and said, "You're already a Disney Mom."

How cute is she?!!!

a

That is a very cute story and one that I can relate to!:goodvibes

Too funny. I had heard the story before but not the glue part. I love that HM.

I just got started on looking for hidden mickeys a few years ago.

My favorite experience with them is when we rode on Toy Story Mania during the soft opening for DVC members. The cars broke down and we had to be escorted out of the building. Along the way, the CM pointed out and told us about 4 of the HM that he knew about.

It was cool!

Just wanted to update people not following me on twitter, that we got some good news today, DH's book proposal that he put in for a few months ago got approved today. So he'll be writing his 8th tech book now. He gets a little advance to write the books, and given yesterday's news, the timing couldn't be better. Hopefully this is the first of many good new things for him. :goodvibes

Thank you to everyone for their continued support and good thoughts!
