Don't want to derail - but did you see this link when it was posted on another thread? http://shaneperez.blogspot.com/2009/12/discovery-island.html

I took some pics via a water mouse and share in your love of all things now gone...from Disney. ;)
Great pics. Here is my memory !

LOL, I know the 39th is just a typo but that date will NEVER come and that's exactly how I feel right now about the FD announcement! :rotfl::scared::headache:

/
Then again, that would be one interesting way to let us all down!

However, I can see why they would wait- because maybe now, all their rooms look good and full with those who have already booked in anticipation of FD.

On the other hand, it would make more sense for them to announce it now because of WWHP opening this summer. I think they would be smart to announce now, so people will book and skip US this year.

Who knows. . . ONly Disney knows what Disney is thinking, and they are tight-lipped until the release date. . .

We're booked and going in August regardless of FD. Knowing that Toy Story Mania will be refurbed while I'm there, as well as walls up in Fantasyland, La Cantina De San Angel closed and now the Up characters out of HS, plus Pooh's Playful Spot and Ariel's Grotto gone, kinda makes me think that anyone able to put their trip off for awhile might be doing the smart thing. I'm glad Disney is always fixing things to make them better, but with all of these things being "fixed", FD would sure make me feel better about my pending trip and the things I'll be missing out on.

All very good points, hopefully they will try to appease us with FD! :)

 That's a whole lot of things I was looking forward to! How do you know all this? Where do I look to find out what's supposed to be closed while I'm there?

Who knows. . . ONly Disney knows what Disney is thinking, and they are tight-lipped until the release date. . .

actually, they are not "tight-lipped" 'cause a week or two ago knox heard from a number of sources that obviously heard it from someone enough in-the-know to make it real enough to post about it, kwim?

so, the loose lips let go and now it's just the waiting game... just because there's no new info, it doesn't mean the old info is out-of-date... it's date has just not arrived yet...

plus, in addition to what knox reported from his sources, various other sites that are relatively reputable (for unofficials, that is) are reporting the same exact thing as knox heard a week or two ago (feels like a century ago LOL)...

FD release on may 3rd for general public... and as i said here somewhere a few days ago that the only reason the original lead didn't include disney visa cardholders was because that's a separate department and the sales dep't that has control over the promo/gp release, has no control over the DVisa promos/release...

again, i'm confident that 5/3 will be the gp fd date... 4/29 for the Dvisa fd date... as a matter of fact, i am so confident that i am taking a sick day that day so i can spend half the day on the phone getting my ressies and those of a few friends made! (::quick prayer that my boss or coworkers don't read the dis::)

At least the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is still open and the Pooh characters can be found at numerous places around the 'world.' Ariel is moving to the veranda in Adventureland and Eric will join her there (May 9th, I think?). The UP characters are moving to Animal Kingdom and I believe Cantina de San Angel opens back up around Sept. 24th. :thumbsup2

June 2010

Magic Kingdom

Construction for the Fantasyland expansion has begun, necessitating the closing of several existing Magic Kingdom areas. Pooh's Playful Spot playground, Ariel's Grotto Character meet-and-greet and Scuttle's Landing have closed. Pooh and Tigger will appear in Town Square on Main Street, U.S.A. Enchanted Grove will now be open in Fantasyland for Extra Magic Hour mornings offering coffee and muffins. The Fantasyland pretzel cart will be located near Dumbo the Flying Elephant. Frozen Coca-Cola products will continue to be available at The Lunching Pad in Tomorrowland. During this expansion, classic Fantasyland attractions, including "it's a small world," Peter Pan's Flight, Mickey's PhilharMagic, Snow White's Scary Adventures, Cinderella's Golden Carrousel, Dumbo the Flying Elephant, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, and Mad Tea Party, will remain open.

Epcot

Cantina de San Angel at the Mexico pavilion in Epcot, has closed for a significant refurbishment and expansion until fall 2010 (reopening is tentatively set for late September, but could change). The company that operates the restaurants in the Mexico pavilion, San Angel Inn, LLC, plans to open on the site a new 400-seat waterside restaurant and quick service food location "specializing in the freshly baked culinary flavors of Mexico." During the refurbishment, the San Angel Inn Restaurante and La Cava de Tequila, located inside the Mexico pavilion, and the Taqueria Del Lago, located alongside the promenade, will still be open for Mexican dining.

A new 300-seat restaurant/pizzeria, Via Napoli, is being constructed in the Italy pavilion. The restaurant will have wood-burning ovens, and will import water from a source that most resembles the water in Naples, Italy, home of some of the world's best pizza dough. This 300-seat pizzeria will feature a menu inspired by the famous pizzerias of southern Italy. The menu also will feature pastas, salads, sandwiches and Italian wines. The Patina Restaurant Group also operates Tutto Italia Ristorante at the pavilion.

Saratoga Springs

Work will begin this spring on a new feature pool in the Paddock area of Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, building on the resort's turn-of-the-20th-century, upstate New York theme. Plans call for the new pool, scheduled for completion in mid-2011, to replace the Paddock area's 1,100-square-foot quiet pool with a 3,300-square-foot zero-depth-entry pool, a 146-foot water slide, a 1,600-square-foot wet-play area, an expanded pool deck spanning more than 11,000 square feet and, for hungry swimmers and sunbathers who'd rather not make the trip across the lake to Artist's Palette, an on-site, quick-service-dining location.

The Breathless II is unavailable until further notice due to unforeseen maintenance issues. If you have an existing reservation you will be contacted to reschedule if possible.

Disney's Hollywood Studios

Star Tours -- At the D23 Expo in September 2009, then-Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo announced that Star Tours in Disney's Hollywood Studios (and at Disneyland) would be closing in October 2010. The attraction will be updated and reopened sometime in 2011. The new experience will be in 3-D, an all-new ride that includes many of the new worlds and elements from the more recent Star Wars movies.

I just think it's sad how every year it gets more and more scaled back! I remember the first time I ever took advantage of the dining plan, it included the app, entree, dessert AND 18% gratuity! :thumbsup2 I remember thinking how awesome that would be for the employees because they would be guaranteed a decent tip, since a lot of people are stingy tippers, especially when they are paying a lot for the food and the vacation in general.

I would no longer get the dining plan if it only included the entree. I could definitely eat cheaper without it. What I wish they would do is make it a choice of appetizer or dessert. But I know that won't happen. Maybe that is why the rumor of 2 snacks? They are getting rid of the dessert (which many people complain is too much) and just giving an extra snack? But I still wouldn't do it.
