Hey, does anyone know which titles are going to be re-released by Disney this year? I'm hoping to do a little more stocking up, 2009 was a great year for that, especially with the $10 coupons!

I think they are releasing Dumbo sometime this spring. That's the only one I know of.

Dumbo, Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Beauty and the Beast, Fantasia, Fantasia 2000, The Black Cauldron and The Great Mouse Detective will be re-released in 2010.

:cheer2:

Those are a few of the movies I'm hoping to buy!

I wonder if there will be good deals on a DVD/Blu-Ray combo pack? I was spoiled by getting the Snow White combo pack for $9.99 on Amazon. We don't have a blu-ray player, but I'm going to try to get combo packs when possible in case dvds go the way of videos someday. :headache: I am still mourning the loss of our massive Disney movie collection on video.

I'm also waiting for The Lion King and Bug's Life to come out on DVD/Blu-Ray.

I didn't know about the Great Mouse Detective! We don't have any of those movies except Toy Story 1 & 2 and I told DH we'll be buying them anyways because they'll be in Blu Ray :lmao:

I'm super excited for Beauty and the Beast I haven't seen it in years because I only have it on VHS at my parents house and we both don't have VCRs anymore!

We had a house fire almost 2 months ago and lost everything including 85 Disney movies. When it comes time, I'd like to replace them and was wondering what the difference is about Blue-ray discs..are they much different than regular dvd's?

Dd is looking forward to Ponyo coming out in March. I'm hoping they will still have the coupon since it isn't "all" Disney.

I'm also waiting for The Lion King and Bug's Life to come out on DVD/Blu-Ray.

"A Bug's Life" is already out on Blu-ray (however, it's not part of a combo pack) and can be found at most mass-merchandisers for under $20.

As for the official release schedule for everything else on DVD/Blu-ray, you can find it right here.

Blu-ray is an HD format. If you have a TV that was manufactured in the past 4-5 years, the difference is like putting on a pair of prescription glasses.

That said, if you are in "rebuild" mode, you might as well go Blu-ray (since the players, themselves can also play old DVDs and now only cost between $100-150).

The Princess and the Frog is suppose to be released in March 2010. I know that is not a re-release but looking forward to it all the same.

Cool, thanks! Now I don't feel guilty for not taking the kids to see it in the theater! :lmao: I'm guessing the Easter Bunny might put it in their baskets.

The same as the difference between regular TV and HDTV. DVDs are not HD. Blu-ray is full HD - video AND audio. If you have a surround sound system Blu-ray is phenominal for sound on most movies because the disks can hold uncompressed audio so you get all sounds (some bluray releases still haev compressed audio, but that is the decision of the studio, not a limitation of the format). The video is many times clearer and more detailed.

Blu-ray players will also play DVDs and upscale them to near HD, but a DVD played on a Bluray player will not be true full 1080p HD - you can only get that from a Bluray disc.

Most decent Bluray players also have internet connectivity with functionality for instant movies from Netflix, music with Pandora, Youtube streaming, etc.

Trust me, once you go Blu you never go back. :thumbsup2

Later this year they'll even start releasing 3D bluray discs and players (in addition to 3D HDTVs). Things you could never have done with a DVD due to size restraints. Blurays just hold a LOT more data, plus they have a scratch resistant coating on the bottom that makes them very difficult to scratch or damage, meaning they will last longer than DVDs. Another plus if you have kids or are rough on your media.

Thanks! I didn't know it was out already. I'm actually looking for combo packs. We don't have a blu-ray player (yet) and from now on I'm buying a combo pack when possible so I can enjoy the movie now on our dvd player and later down the road when we get a blu-ray player. I'm in no hurry to get the blu-ray player yet.

That's great news! The first thing that popped in my mind is that this would be a good Easter basket item. :woohoo:

Oh yay, Beauty and the Beast! This is timely as I just watched our DVD B&B for the first time in years, so the first time on our HD tv. I was surprised to really notice the blurriness at the edges of the figures, etc. We got a blu-ray for Xmas, and I was bummed to see that they weren't offering B&B on blu-ray.

Even better, just last week I heard something on one of the podcasts about https://disneyupgradetoblu.com/blu_ray/index.html, where you send in the proof of purchase tab from your Disney DVD to receive an $8 coupon for upgrading it to bluray. I'm sure it's been mentioned on here before, but previously Bluray threads flew under my radar. Will definitely be going for B&B. Now if they'd just do Little Mermaid :thumbsup2
