2009 Tour de Cure in Fairbanks, Alaska

My DW and I did the 25k American Diabetes Association Tour De Cure this morning. Besides being a great cause, I just wanted you all to know I proudly wore my DIS t-shirt I purchased in support of Give kids the World earlier this year. We did the trip in 2 hours and my bikes odometer said it was about 21 miles instead of the 25k's supposed 15.5 miles. It was rather hilly and we are a tad sore, but it was a great ride and I'll be doing it again next year as well.

As the Mom of an 8 year old boy with Type 1 Diabetes (diagnosed at 20 months), I thank you and your wife from the bottom of my heart! We had never heard of this race until recently when a young man we met at Family Camp let us know he was planning to ride it in honor of his sister who has Type 1.

Daneenm, you are quite welcome. My DW has type II, but she is lucky enough to be able to control it with diet and medicine. She had to use shots during the 2nd pregnancy and that was just terrible for her. But she made it through and all is well now.

We didn't really see any wildlife besides a snowshow hare. But otherwsie the ride was hilly in spots, but beautful as it had rained the night before and was overcast during the ride. The temp was about 58F

Good job Patrick. We have a Tour de Cure in our area and once I shell out the money on a real road bike I might just give it a try.
