2009 mugs different?

Out of curiosity... If there is such a large surplus of mugs at the end of the year, why the heck does Disney order so darn many!?!?

My guess would be because they have no idea how many they will for sure sell during the year. Plus I'm sure that the more they order the cheaper they are able to get them

One of the things I used to look forward to each year was getting a new mug from a different resort. Now? They are all the same and the new ones don't even come out... plus no year on the mugs.

I think we may all need to start to accept that the mugs may not change at all this year like we expect. While the mugs do say "where dreams come true" they dont say "the year of a million dreams" at least mine dont. Here it is already February with no change in mugs, and at the rate things are going I wouldnt be suprised if the suits in Anaheim decided that the mugs design was "universal enough to get by" and instead decide to just keep this one rather than go to the expense of designing and producing a new one. Just my theory anyway...

Is this still the current cup?

You know in 2007 they used the same mug but since they put the year on it, it was at least a little different. I just looked in the kitchen cabinet and well, we have too many Disney resort mugs. By the time we make our next trip the last year's mug is usually quite dishwasher faded and it is time for a new one but I'd still love to have a new design. My daughter (6) says that they should offer a pink handle. (Hint to Disney marketers!) They have blue, black and gray why not pink?

Not at CSR -they have a different cup - resort specific as Pepper Market isn't wholly owned by Disney. We stayed at CSR in August and we own 2 CSR mugs which I believe are still in use at this resort (but I'm not too clever at uploading photos)

Thanks Sheribo and Pigby, I guess we'll have to get the new mugs since we are staying at CSR. I appreciate the help.

Thanks for the pics!!! We are taking a trip in July and the last time we went, way back in 2002, they were the fat kind. I think I like the skinny ones better:thumbsup2

I am so hoping they come out with new mugs for 2009....

We live in the North East and the mugs that we've collected from 2007 & 2008 remind me of snow! brrr!!

any reports yet?

I read from somewhere that there will be new mugs.. Well even small changes do make the experience unique...

As others have already said, those mugs look quite wintery. We're going in the heat of summer. I sure hope there is a new design! Something colorful with the balloons like the celebrate contest website.

Is that the only shape of the mugs - travel style? The kind I've gotten in the past is not car-friendly but holds more than travel style.

Kathy Werling from DIS Unplugged wrote that the new mugs are out. She mentions that there's a choice of yellow, red, and black handles with the same colored lid, making it easier to color code them for your family. Check out her full article complete with many pictures.

Here's is one of the photos she posted:

Awesome. Being a family of 4 I always hope for 4 colors but I think I might just take the blue lid off one of our old ones and use it so we each have our own.

I so hope they return to the resort specific mugs. The generic mugs are very uninspiring. And I would actually buy the resort specific mugs. Now we just bring the generic ones on each trip.

Dennis-

Not me.

Okay, just got home today... well, like, an hour and a half ago...
The new mugs popped up at the Pop on about Sunday or so.

My family arrived on 2/5 and we reluctantly took the blue mugs, but begged the manager at Everything Pop to let us exchange them for new ones, and she let us! Yippie!

Just returned....

At POR they changed the mugs over during our stay. I want to say it was Sunday or Monday. They are not resort specific and they look fine... they have alot of red in them and have the characters on them. We got the old ones because it was all they had when we checked in last Thursday
