2008 Refillable Mug-Buy or Swap Thread?

I thought I just read that the mugs are actually the same for all resorts now - something about year of a million dreams on them.

I've never like coming home with a new mug everytime as it just fills up the cabinets. I would LOVE to see Disney come out with a policy that if you bring your mug back from previous trips you buy like a refill sticker good for the visit. It could be cheaper than the original full purchase price but would still be "paying" for your drinks. Additionally, it would cut back on the amount of mugs they would have to sell overall AND help the environment as well (go tree huggers :lmao: )

They actually do that at the waterparks and have been doing it for a while. I'm not sure why they haven't extended it to the resorts and parks.

FWIW, I think that DISers care more about the mug rule than Disney does. If it were as hot a topic in corporate meetings as it is on here, Disney would have implimented a way to enforce the one-time-use rule a long time ago.

I agree. We care more than they do.

That is so true...every resort I stay at i see people using mugs that are so faded it is obvious they aren't new. But anyways!!
To the OP-don't worry about how some may have jumped on you-that is how these boards are...doesn't it make you feel so Disneyish?? haha Plus-if I had a question I would think I could just ask it as well...didn't know you have to do research before you could ask a question that takes 1 minute to answer.

AGREED - I just come back to the boards to give myself the conscience I was never born with - LOL. That and I like to be yelled at by random people across the country.

lol at everyone getting annoyed :rotfl:

on the hygiene thing, actually most places give you refils for the mug in a normal soda paper cup, i think this is for hygiene as well, so we didnt actually drink from our mugs.....
we always pass our on as we check out to someone else checking in...far to many other thing to take home in the suitcase in the plane.

just helping to spread the magic ....

No I was not joking. I aske a simple question. If it is against the rules than it is against the rules-So apparently the fridge swap is not against the rules? Disney doesn't mind people not paying full price for the use of fridges (which btw is $10+ per day so you are, in essence, cheating the poor strapped Disney machine out of a lot more than $12 each mug) but it is a terrible thing to ask about the mugs-sounds like a big old double standard to me but feel free to keep laughing-I'll buy the mugs on ebay and you keep paying $12 for a piece of plastic that hold the least expensive liquids known to mankind.
Thanks for the kind introduction to the Budget Boards

the last time i checked the people that share fridges buy mini fridges and have them shipped to WDW..not share the WDW ones that are 10 bucks a day..

So they are cheating Disney out of $10 a day. :confused3

So say on a 5 day visit you cheat Disney out of 50 bucks with a fridge where as a mug cost only $12. Plus the bellhops have to keep up with the fridge. Disney is not making anything off storing and keeping up with a fridge for the fridge swap. Don't take a whiz to figure out where they are losing the most money.

..

I AGREE! It is soda, for heavens sake. How many that jump on posters asking questions carry their own drinks into the park, their own snacks, and God forbid, their own crock pot or electric skillet into the resort room. I'm not sure the cooking implements are specifically disallowed, but carrying in your own Uncrustable is. They don't care and never stop anyone from taking in food, but it is a written rule. I've seen that one written in Disney literature. I'm not sure I've actually ever seen the mug mandate written, other than here.

Actually, on the side of the mug it says something about being good for length of stay only. But of course, it is not enforced.

Okay, the OP's question has been answered and now we're getting off topic. We won't go into whether it's appropriate to allow the refrigerator swaps. The administrators of this website have determined that they are permitted. And so they will stay on the Budget Board for those wishing to participate.
