2008 rates...ouch......

The old price structure of paying the same price for length of stay was in place a long time. Disney certainly has many employees crunching the numbers. I firmly believe that Disney came out ahead on the plan in the beginning, and possibly for years Many people paid rack rates and didnt know that if they came on the last day of a holiday period the rest of their stay was at the higher rate even though it was then a lower season. With our current slump in the economy and the widespread use of the internet we are smarter shoppers. More of us knew how to put that length of stay loophole to our benefit not Disneys. Since it no longer made money for them.....we now will pay a daily rate.

Yea, I had misunderstood what he was saying, which is why I posted what I did above. The impact will mostly be felt by long term campers, which is unfair, but this isn't exactly new in the industry.

Do I like it? No. Do I wish it had changed? No. Do I understand why? Yes.

As much as I love Disney and everything about it, I even have to remind myself sometimes that it is a business. And it's about making money. This is a good business decision for them. People will get hurt, people will get upset, but that holds true with most things that change at Disney.

I truly am sorry for any long term campers that are affected. One day I'll probably be one of them myself, I know I wouldn't be happy about the change.

You are exactly correct - the major impact is not the $2-4 daily increase. It is the policy change where you are now charged the nightly rate not the rate of the date you checked-in. Not allowing the check-in rate to carry over for the entire reservation is a MAJOR impact to those of us who stay longer than a week or two. Yes, it will not affect you "locals" as much.

It will be interesting to see come Jan. and Feb. .......

I bet there will be plenty of vacancies .....especially the pet loops...:sad2:

Hey, value season is still a great deal! Try thinking of it that way :)

Presidents weekend Feb. 15-17
$73 Partial
$85 Full
$91 Preferred

Looks like the young working family takes the brunt of these increases......

To bad they couldn't spread it out to all.............:sad2:

Not sure what you mean by that. But everybody has to pay the same prices, no matter what income bracket they are in.

Granted, the "young working family" may find it harder to save for vacation, but in reality, the prices are just a few dollars more than they were last year. The same goes for fuel, food, and everything else. The cost of living just goes up every year.

But, there's not much we can do about it, except cut our expenses, such as staying at a less expensive place if needed, driving vehicles that get better gas mileage, making cuts someplace else so we can keep affording to bring the kids on vacation, etc. etc.

I"ve been going so long during value that I have forgotten how the young families(kids still in school) and are forced too travel (if they can afford too)during peak .......really do carry us on thier backs........

Some of you seem to be making way too much of the new system. I mean, all you are focusing on are folks who check in during value season and stay over into regular or peak season. What about the folks who check in during peak or regular and stay over into value season??????? They (me) had to continue paying the higher prices. Now, the prices will go DOWN if you go into value season. So, it seems fair for all. JMO...

Most people who check in during higher season rates will get a second reservation for the value season portion of their stay. It doesn't make sense to pay the higher rate when you have entered the value season. By splitting your reservation between the two seasons you would not have to pay the higher rate during value season.

You're absolutely right!! :cool1:

Very good point, it does work both ways. And I'm all for prices going down during my stay...lol

Amen to that! When I add up what we usually spend (:scared1: ) every bit of savings is much appreciated.

For those working families who plan thier vacations around thier kids school schedules......weekends or holidays or summer........basiclly anytime school is out of session........They unfairly take the majority of these price increases IMO......

I'm from the UK so the price for me isn't that bad especially with the rate of $2 for £1 at the moment but It must be expensive If you live in the USA (then again we do live in tiny expensive houses so I guess It evens It out :)

I think Fort Wilderness is worth every penny as the setting is so relaxing, using the electric buggy is great and the American guests are so friendly. We always spend a fortnight every year at the Fort and couldn't imagine going anywhere else. We've been going for quite a while now and remember river country and discover island being open and even the pizzas can't put us off the Fort.

P.S. A work mate is off next week for 4 day in DisneyLand Paris and its costing him (2 adults & 2 kids) £2,500 which is roughly $5000!

OH! You mean golf cart and a couple of weeks! I work for HSBC and I should be used to English (as opposed to American) by now.

Cheers! :thumbsup2

Now if they'd only do SOMETHING with all the money they're raking in at the Fort - like pumping some cool water into the pool so it doesn't feel like you're taking a hot bath when you jump in, or replacing the burnt out bulbs around the loops so that you don't run into someone or something in the dark, or maybe having phones at the comfort stations that actually work, or maybe a slide (or something entertaining) at the pool, or maybe a place to refill the mugs other than the pool's snack bar which is not always open when it's supposed to be (don't really feel like tea or coffee on a hot August day from the trading post).

I love the Fort - just spent the last month there - but it needs some work! Boy it was crowded there until last week! What a change from last year!
